Aries Apothecary is one of the best stores of its kind in the area. They have a wide array of both knowledge and products. Many of the items available to purchase are handmade by the owner herself and I must say they are amazing! From soaps to herbal supplies to candles or beautiful polished stones, this store has it all! On top of that the owner runs the store herself and is an incredible fount if knowledge! I have never posted a review of a business before, but was so shocked at one of the reviews posted previously that I HAD to write this and defend this family owned store. First of all, I frequented this store when it was located in Virginia Beach and I have NEVER seen toys anywhere at all. Also, I am very curious about the "knife" in question that was mention in the review. There are knives and katanas available for purchase in this store - it has a bit of everything as I said- but they are always put away and secured. I have to wonder about the authenticity of this review based on that alone. Also, the owners children are often present, but are much older than the reviewer made it sound and are not only extremely polite, but are very helpful! I have never seen anyone sprawled anywhere at Aries Apothecary! Stephanie, the owner, is generally there or available and I have honestly NEVER seen a patron enter that wasn't greeted and assisted in whatever need they had. As far as the store being messy, it is always clean and if anything it may have seemed almost "too full" BUT that was due to her old store being very small and the fact that she offers TONS of options with a wide variety of items to choose from. She has since moved into a much larger and brighter space in Norfolk which allows her to proudly display all of her inventory and to better showcase the array of items that she provides! AHHHH-MAZING Store! I've been in a handful of religious supply stores and this one, by far, is my favorite. They recently relocated to Granby Street for a bigger and more beautiful space and this place has something for everyone from every religion. Whether you're looking for herbs, candles, incense, handmade soap and bath bombs, totems, stones, jewelry from local artisans, lotions, potions or tapestries - she has it! The shelves are stocked and displays are full and welcoming. When you walk in, you are immediately transformed by the smell of herbs and incense. I'm glad to report it's not overpowering, and I'm pretty picky as I suffer from migraines. Stephanie is nothing short of helpful and knowledgeable. Her expertise in herbs continues to blow me away and if there is a question she doesn't have the answer to, she will look it up for you - on the spot. I have personally seen her recommend her competitors, when clients were looking for something they needed immediately and she's offered to special order items she doesn't normally carry - for those who were able to wait a little longer. She is definitely a business owner who puts the needs of her clients before her own personal gain. They are a small business that is both veteran and family owned and sometimes the kids are even there helping out. I have been to this shop many times as a person from the pagan community. The owner is very family oriented and her children which are older help run the store. Her own daughter makes her own products and sells them in the store. I have never seen any toys in the store because her kids are older. I don't know what this other person is talking about. The "bucket" on the floor as that person describes is a cauldron that used for spiritual workings and its there for a reason. If you don't understand something the owner is ready and willing to explain anything and everything to anyone that comes in. It is a spiritual store so it has incense which is calming since they have a working altar. This is one of my favorite places to be!! Aries Apothecary is a huge contributor in the Pagan community and I love them. The so called "kitchen knives" are athames and daggers which are in display cases and on the wall behind the counter away from children. I bring my own son here all the time and he loves it! I absolutely recommend Aries Apothecary to everyone! Some people are just ignorant and don't bother to ask questions. if there are other customers in the shop the owner still takes the time to check on everyone and make sure they are OK but sometimes she may be with a customer. This is, in my opinion, one of the most welcoming & nurturing shops of its kind in the Norfolk/Va Beach area. My family & I have been visiting her VA shop for over the past year & have always left with the information & services we went looking for, along with a satisfied feeling of being helped by someone who genuinely cares for her patrons' wellbeing. Her shop was always tidy & she could easily find what we were looking for. My children enjoy going there as well because it is so welcoming & family friendly. A bonus is that there are no overpowering scents or residue of powders or oils as I have experienced at shops of similar natures in different parts of the country. This is very important to me as both I & my children have various skin sensitivity issue. We have never had any negative skin reactions there; & again, Stephanies attention to these details makes it highly unlikely that any such issue will occur. My family & I look forward to visiting her new location in Norfolk & expect she will meet & exceed all our expectations. Ok. So I love this place. Nevermind that I work here quite a bit, the owner works hard to make time for everyone that walks in. Never mind shes retired military, a mother to 2 wild kids. One has asperger and is often in some sort of a meltdown. She does her best to still do right by the customer. After a rough month of moving and sales shes busted her bottom to make this a safe space for all who need it. A safe and sacred space. Multitudes of herbs, a glorious array of candles and not to mention all the excellent made products to help you feel better. Though someone reviewed this place as not good. I would like to remind everyone every one and every place has an off day. Try to remember that. Running a full time business is not easy. I've been going to this shop for over a year, and I absolutely love it! The staff is always friendly and very helpful, as well as extremely knowledgeable. I especially appreciate that the owner is a licensed herbalist, rather than some random joe schmoe. The new location next to Quixotic Arts is also great - it has a lot more space, so the store feels less cluttered. I'm honestly amazed at how everything could fit in the old location. They're also veteran owned and operated in addition to being a family store, which is just a great way to support the area. The store offers a lot of services besides holistic medicine - they have crystals, candles, and books on paganism and herbalism as well. The owner employs several readers (in addition to herself) and the new location has a charity fund at the current moment. I've never had a bad experience here, and it's my first stop for herbs and spiritualism. read more

A fantastic local spiritual shop, good selection with new things (ex, handmade things by local artisans, crystals, soaps) being rotated in fairly often. A good place to hang out and learn too.They have a decently large roster of people who can do readings too (tarot, and I think a few other kinds???) but I haven't gotten one yet so I can't really say much about those, just that the readers themselves are very friendly during their downtime between readings while they're in the front of the shop. read more
