I am someone who has a good base of Spanish under my belt, but for a beginners class this was very difficult. It felt very freeform/loose and I didn't feel we focused on grammar enough to speak in sentences (though we were expected to aloud in class). If you are someone who prefers structure, this is not the class for you. I attended every week until the last two courses because I felt I was not gaining anything, plus two of our classes got rescheduled due to the teacher's illness (not their fault, but I would've rathered a substitute as many of us travelled from BK for the class...) and we never received information about when they would be made up? I sort of feel like it was a waste for me The teacher was super nice and obviously very knowledgeable, but I think this class will not be a good fit for you unless it's just for a hobby or trying to memorize phrases for a vacation. It felt way too informal. If you are seriously trying to learn Spanish, I would not recommend and suggest you take your money elsewhere, though I cannot speak for my classmates or other language courses at this place

Eduardo was a fun and engaging Spanish instructor. Classes were well structured, but didn't feel overly rigid. I felt engaged the whole time. I went into this with intermediate skills in French, which definitely helped. The course is quite fast paced and covers a lot of ground. If you have no experience with a second language you'll definitely need to study harder to keep up. I used Duolingo for a month before the class and it definitely helped get me started with at least some knowledge. I wish there was a little more time for conversation and interaction between students, but I don't see how they could do it unless the class met twice a week. Overall I liked the format of the class and would recommend it!

I tried a couple other schools in Manhattan before I decide but none of their "advanced" class was advanced enough for me. (I was in the break of my collage in Boston and my English level wasn't too low) This school has a great range of levels, many activities and if you have some trouble and want to speak in your language, they have advisers in many languages too which is a good option to have. Including teachers, they are all friendly and it was comfortable enough for me to stay long. I was in the highest class all the time but I saw many low level students (who couldn't speak AT ALL) became better speakers and enjoyed their stay in NY. I as an advanced student learned a lot and improved English in many ways which I was honestly not expected much from a language school. I would like to come back anytime if there is another chance!!

I recently completed my first semester of Korean (level 1A) at K-talk and have noticeably felt…read moremyself progressing throughout the weeks. Before this, I was trying to self-learn the language via Duolingo, and often felt stagnated. Despite going through the lessons and having a 200 day streak, I didn't feel like I was making any progress in truly understanding the language and just parroting/guessing at sentence structures. The structured classes at K-talk place an emphasis on learning grammatical structure and expanding our vocabulary with USEFUL words (looking at you Duolingo - who needs to say "the fox and the milk" in real life??) are so helpful in helping establish a solid foundation for the language. Yeorim-ssi is a great teacher and makes each lesson fun and entertaining. It's also fun to have a cohort of classmates who are also pursuing the same goal as you (and to complain together when we get to learning the more unintuitive parts of the language :)) Would highly recommend trying out K-talk for anyone looking to learn/improve their Korean ability! I lived for a…read morecouple years in Lebanon and picked up some dialect during my time there, though was never fluent in it. I wanted to spend some time learning Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) before trying to get back into Levantine dialects, but was a bit nervous about differences between dialect and MSA. Manar did a great job teaching me and helping me navigate those differences, and she always provided a great learning environment. Classes were always interesting and engaging, and Manar is patient with you regardless of your life and is also a lot of fun to have class with. I would absolutely recommend taking classes at Al Noor and will be starting up classes again with them as soon as my schedule frees up again!

I had previously studied Italian in high school and college, so I took a placement exam prior to registering. Giuseppina (Giuse for short) conducted my placement exam. I feel that I was appropriately placed during my first semester since some topics were refreshers for me, while others were much needed lessons and reviews! -The classes are arranged so that you and your classmates follow the same professor throughout the levels. All professors are native Italian speakers who are quick to correct your pronunciation (thankfully!). My professor Rosanna is amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to both Italian and English grammar. She can predict the mistakes native English speakers will make in certain grammar structures and explain to the Italian grammar rule before we make the mistake. Rosanna stays on topic when conducting a lesson, but she always interjects little tidbits of helpful information to correct a student that makes an un-related mistake. -The quality of the classes and the lesson formats are amazing. The founder of the program (Franca Lally) created a curriculum that effectively teaches Italian while encouraging conversational practice. The professors strictly adhere to the original curriculum and often include discussions in each of their lessons. The program sends out weekly emails with the following week's lesson for you to print out or view on your device. -Registering with Parliamo Italiano is a pleasant process. Lauren works in the Parliamo Italiano office and has been nothing but a pleasure to work with. She works efficiently and is willing to answer all your questions. -Cons: On occasion, Parliamo Italiano can be disorganized. They are a branch of Hunter College, so some of the classes are held within the Hunter College buildings while others are held at Casa Lally just a few blocks south of Hunter College. There have been about four occasions over the past three semesters in which my professor, classmates and I were left standing a hallway for twenty minutes because our classroom door was locked. My classmates and I have complained to the program each time this has happened. Fortunately, this is the worst complaint I have about the program. Overall, I highly recommend the program! They have an Open House prior to the Fall and Spring semesters, so check it out!

After a convivial 15-minute coffee chat with Jade, I learned that I was an advanced enough speaker of my mother tongue to take LEVEL 6: Intermediate Taishanese. Over 8 Thursday evenings in early 2024, four classmates and I met with Jade over Zoom for 90-minute sessions. I loved every moment of our time together. First of all, I'm so grateful that Jade, a native of Taishan herself, but twenty-five to thirty years younger than I, would combine her language savvy with entrepreneurial energy to create Inspirlang, a space in which students of Taishanese could gather together to improve our language skills and our cultural understandings. Though I wished that I had mastered Taishanese Romanization and more Chinese writing and reading beforehand, it didn't matter. Jade was able to accommodate the varying skill levels of all her students. It seemed that everyone felt at home; I certainly did. I'll be forever grateful to Jade for being willing to take up topics that we brought up, such as how to talk about the sometimes alien topic of forgiveness and love among Taishanese people who love each other tenderly but long to convey those feelings in words. I'm also grateful for my fellow students. There are relatively few opportunities to learn Taishanese (unlike Mandarin, for example), so it felt particularly precious to be in the presence of others outside my family and close-knit circles with whom to speak Taishanese. I loved my classmates and look forward to keeping in touch with them beyond the class.

This video broke my heart while simultaneously inspiring me. To give you some background, I am a 2nd generation Chinese-Canadian. My mom's family speaks Toisan/Hoiping, but my mother, aunt and uncles were told not to speak Chinese. My grandfather wanted to master English; he wanted them to have perfect English. My father is a Hong Kong immigrant who grew up extremely poor. After moving to Canada, he became a pharmacist. My father worked almost six days a week, typically for twelve hours a day, to prevent my sisters and me from facing the same hardships he faced. As a result, I never learned Cantonese, apart from the odd word here or there. My fiancé's parents are from Hong Kong, and that helped me pick up more vocabulary! But I never succeeded in learning Cantonese. Jade's video spoke to me in many ways. Before my paternal grandparents passed, I never had a chance to get to know them or talk with them. My relationship with my father's sisters was peculiar, as they hardly spoke any English if they spoke at all. But through this video, I also acknowledged that Taishanese & Hoiping had died on my mother's side of the family. This realization was quite hard on me since my grandmother (Hu Hu) had a stroke and now struggles with speaking anything but Hoiping. It was then that I decided I would finally put my heart and soul into learning Cantonese. I have always had a fear that my (future) children would experience the same language barrier that I did if my father and my in-laws were to develop a medical condition that affected their ability to speak. I originally booked a coffee chat with Jade to assess which level to start with. At this time, I could barely speak any Cantonese. My sentence structure needed to be corrected. Sure, I knew a few words here or there, but I really couldn't say or understand much. Jade was so kind, though, and encouraged me to start at level 1 to get a foundation. I agreed and signed up a few weeks before the course was set to start. After watching Jade's video, I was impassioned. I decided to take it further and hire a private Cantonese tutor. Going into beginner level 1 was a breeze for me, but luckily, the class was quite dynamic. Nicole, the instructor, had a unique way of integrating new vocabulary into each class, even though most of the foundation topics were familiar to me. I started learning Cantonese about two months ago. At this time, I could barely speak any Cantonese. Now, I can understand A LOT more. I even performed part of my wedding vows and welcome speech in Cantonese, thanks to Jade's help! I addressed my grandparents, in-laws and my dad's sisters in Cantonese during my welcome speech. My in-laws and aunties were so happy; they kept telling me how glad they were, how good my Cantonese was, how pretty I looked. I owe this all to Jade and the team at Inspirlang. I never imagined I would reach this level so quickly, but your dedication and inspiration are what keep me going on my learning journey!
