I moved to the Austin area in January from the East Coast, and I've noticed that while many people here talk about the cost of living, I actually find it quite affordable compared to where I came from. I was able to get a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment for $1,500 a month, and I've seen 1-bedroom, 1-bath units available for as low as $988. Considering the quality of the complex, the included amenities, and its proximity to downtown Austin, local colleges, restaurants, and shops, I'd say it's a great deal. The maintenance team here is excellent--friendly, professional, and quick to respond. Any issues I've had were due to things I accidentally broke, and they resolved them fast. One standout experience was when I signed my lease. My unit originally had carpet, which I wasn't a fan of. Shelby in the leasing office went above and beyond to get management's approval to switch it to hardwood floors before my move-in date. They got it done in just one day, which was impressive! Now, let's talk about something I've seen mentioned in other reviews--bugs. I've been living at Argosy for a month now, and the only time I saw a bug was on my first night. The reality is, no apartment complex will ever be completely bug-free--it's part of living in shared buildings. Even if you keep your space spotless, you can't control what your neighbors do. To prevent issues, before moving in my furniture, I placed bait traps in key areas (under the sink, fridge, oven, and bathrooms) and sprayed Home Defense inside and outside my unit. Since then, I haven't seen a single bug. It's also worth noting that the front office offers free pest control every Monday, and you can request a visit if needed. As for the neighborhood and community, my experience has been great so far. The neighbors are friendly, and while I've only casually greeted some, I've made friends with others. My building is quiet, and any noise I do hear is never disruptive or outside of community quiet hours. Some key things I really enjoy about living here: Google Fiber with speeds up to 8GB per second Proximity to ACC Highland Campus (0.5 miles away) Close to Korea Town, Dias Market, bus stops, and train stations 24-hour fitness center Two pools Dog park Outdoor grills and hammocks Overall, I've had a great experience living at Argosy, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a well-located, reasonably priced apartment in Austin. read more

I accidentally overpaid my last month. When I asked them for my money back they said they would after they decided how much I owed. This is not legal, they are supposed to use your deposit. Then they charged me an outrageous amount for cleaning fees and of course kept all of my deposit and most of what I overpayed. I've decided to take legal action and report them to the AG. The staff here are amazing , very helpful and informative. Maintenance is always on site and addresses issues in a timely manor and positive attitude. The complex is always hosting neat little mixer and give aways which makes you feel engaged in the little community here like pool parties snow cone give away etc. You simply can't beat the location and Alix is a doll and her and her team are a pleasure to work with. read more

So they had my previous review deleted...PFF, I guess I used terms/words that hurt their feelings. So anyway...these people will RIP YOU OFF in every way possible...look at their rating!? 2.5? It's the best location and worst run apartment in town...I moved out over 2 weeks ago and they have still sent me POOL CLOSING notices and others! WTF? Plus they think I owe ANOTHER $90 in ridiculous fees....they do this every month!!!! I cant believe yELP bent to their bitchin' they never stood up for me when I was hatchet jobbed! IT IS SOOOO DAMN expensive and I talked to many other tenants... I PAID WAAAAAAAY more then others and My place was not totally renovated. DO NOT MOVE HERE! They charge $50 for the stackable W/D... W T F ? If you park in the covered parking during a Hail storm THEY WILL HAVE YOU TOWED! YEP they are totally heartless. Applied to live here and was not provided updates on application. They claim to work with poor credit, but they don't. I found out after applying, and waiting days for my application that there was a bad mark on my rental history due to an unpaid balance by a former roommate that ended up under my name, the screening company refused to work with me or accept a statement from the other rental company that payments were being made on the outstanding balance. They wanted the balance to be paid off in full. All of this could have been easier to understand and accept if I had at least been provided updates on this. I had to call and email several times to get updates, or even be notified that my application was denied. This is very disappointing as this mark on my report was news to me, and it's being handled, but the screening company refused to work with me. It's interesting that they advertise to work with low credit and low income, but are unbending when it comes to an outstanding balance for a property you were unaware of, and is not even solely my responsibility. Not to mention, this doesn't even show up on my credit report on my end, so i had zero knowledge of this. I wish I had a better experience here, and the staff had communicated these concerns as they arose so I didn't waste the last 5 days thinking I was going to have a place to live, and now I'm without housing. The property's themself are decent, and the staff is nice enough when you actually get a hold of them. Just would advise to communicate updates as they become available. read more

I lived at the Argosy for 10+ years, in three different apartments. It was a really, really nice place to live. The units are great, with solid amenities, and the grounds are very well kept, too. I never had any bug problems, and the handful of maintenance issues I did have over the years were always taken care of promptly. The proximity to bus and rail is obviously a big selling point, and the area has a bunch of great spots within walking distance like Dia's Market, Little Deli, Blackstar Pub, and the list goes on. I've seen management turn over a few times. The current staff are very professional. I had a little trouble getting them on the phone during my last few months in the complex, but I'd chalk that up to the pandemic; response time is normally never an issue. If you like the area, and especially if you rely on public transportation, the Argosy is a great option. read more

I lived at Argosy for 10 years and generally loved it. The location is great--close to the three major freeways of Austin, right on the train stop, close to the University, close to Downtown, very close to the center of Austin. The entry and exit was also convenient (unless you happen to get stuck by the damn train but you can usually avoid the train with some planning). Argosy is located on a quiet, slow street with a traffic light to turn onto North Lamar. Driving around the area was generally stress-free. You don't even need a car to live here--there are bus and train stops within a 5-10 minute walk on Woodrow and North Lamar. Anna Sparks, the leasing manager, is awesome and part of the reason I loved living here. Most of the apartment managers I had were initially nice before you signed your lease and then treated you poorly afterward; Anna continues to be as warm and genuine as when I first met her. She also has an amazing memory and is very organized. The leasing office personnel in general are all very professional and available. Maintenance requests are responded to promptly and the maintenance staff I remember, Chris and Larry, were friendly and efficient. Argosy feels very safe. As a single female, I feel safe walking around the parking lot well after midnight. One reason I'm having to walk around the parking lot is because during the school year, all the spots remotely close to my unit are full by 10 pm so I have to park farther away. There is always enough parking. I've never known anyone whose had their apartment broken into. If you have a car with a nice stereo, however, avoid parking in the perimeter (fence) parking spots. I have seen smashed-in windows there. When I have guests, I usually give them my parking tag and move my own econobox car out to the perimeter. I finally left because I felt that an old, 512-square-feet 1-1 for someone who rarely took the train was not worth $800+ a month. I'll let some rich college student have the pleasure of living in this apartment. The other renters living in Argosy seemed like pretty cool, laidback people. I saw some young families but mostly with babies or toddlers. Many renters are students. The surrounding neighborhood, Crestview, is also pretty liberal and has a sense of community. I hang out at coffeeshops a lot and there are three great ones nearby (within walking distance even): Genuine Joe's, Thunderbird, and Epoch. I would definitely live here again if the rent decreased. read more

I've been living in these apartments for over two years now. They are decent enough, but I will definitely be moving once my lease is up, come May. Several things have really ticked me off about this place, but the constant construction for the past 6 months has really put me over the edge. I feel like they are really dishonest here. I resigned my lease this past May (mostly because I was just lazy and didn't want to move my stuff), and they neglected to mention that they in the process of selling the apartment complex to new management. They just tacked a note on my door one day stating that they sold the place. Shortly afterward they started the construction...6 solid months of it so far. I'm just sick and tired of being awoken everyday by banging at 7:00 A.M. Pros: Spacious apartments Great neighborhood Cons: Constant construction Recent theft both from balconies and car break-ins Also, they are nazis about guests cars. Guests must park in the designated parking areas. On two separate occasions my friends cars have been towed. read more

I can't speak for everyone, but I really liked living here. There are a lot of college students and young people, but it's always quiet. For being a pet friendly complex, the grounds were always clean and taken care of. No, it's not fancy, but the rent is great, and units are nice for what you pay for: New-ish appliances, wood laminate floor, fireplaces, 9ft ceilings, and alarms, I felt really comfortable. Oh yeah and no bugs! The part I appreciated the most was the maintenance staff. I love Larry! Such a nice guy. Waves and says hi to everyone. The office staff was always friendly and accommodating- I had a few small maintenance issues while here: a sticky door knob, and a leak under the bathroom sink... both were fixed the same day. The biggest reason I gave the place 4 stars is because after one year they increased rent nearly 100 dollars a month, which I can't afford, and thought was a little hefty. I also had my car hit in the middle of the night, which admittedly isn't the apartment's fault, but the hit and run cost me 900 dollars. The upside... Larry helped me take pictures and some neighbors offered great advice and a ride to work that day. Really nice people here. One thing to watch out for... Grackles inhabit some of the trees in Hitchcock-esque numbers and will shower poop on your car. SHOWER is the operative word. Other than this, I felt safe, and comfortable. To me, the most important things were absolutely taken care of here, and they have my recommendation. read more

I lived in these apartments for 4 years. I have never lived in an apartment complex for so long. And I did so because it was exactly what I wanted. Anytime I needed anything fixed, it was within 24 hours. They always sprayed for bugs and I didn't have to worry about having nasty roaches. The parking situation was nice because I could always find a spot. Although if you park along the fence near Walgreen's, be careful. I had 2 people have their cars broken into. But that was before there was no assigned parking. Now you can park where ever and it's safer to park infront of the buildings. I love that the grass was always cut and that I could walk my dog through the complex. It was enjoyable. There is also recycling in the back and it's cool because a lot of places don't have that option. The pool is really nice. The only complaint I ever had is that there are guys that play volleyball out there Wednesday's and Friday's (some times other days). And it's not that they are playing volleyball that's the problem, it's that the other pool, the bigger one, is covered in shade by then. If you wanted to layout - too bad. They really need to cut down or trim back that other tree. My favorite thing is that I put down money for my dog when we rented the place. I was afraid that when we moved out after 4 year we would owe them. But believe it or not, I received the letter saying that we owe them nothing. Clean slate! My apartment faced the road, so yes I heard the fire trucks who ALWAYS started their sirens right in front of my apartment, and there was a Hispanic church that opened across the street in the last couple of years and the bass from that was loud. But it's so close to Walgreen's and the bus station and Brentwood park that all that never mattered. read more

Lack of safety: I left my car doors unlocked one night returning from the grocery store. I had my hands full and forgot to lock my car. The next morning, before I got in my car, I noticed some of my stuff on my passenger car seat. I opened the door and my car reeked of cigarette smoke (I don't smoke). And then I noticed ashes all on my center console. Yes, I left my car unlocked and that was stupid. That doesn't give anyone the right to get in MY car, smoke, and go through my things. The only thing that was stolen was a travel size bottle of mouthwash. A co-worker said it was probably an alcoholic. Again, I would only live here if your number 1 reason is how cheap it is. Other than that, there are many options nearby for only $200-300 more per month. I have learned my lesson. read more

If it were possible to give no stars, I would. I cannot even begin to tell you how bad the management here is. I was a good, stable, always-paid-on-time tenant for two years. Two months before my lease was up, I got a notice on the door that I had to vacate. WTF? Okay, fine... you're going to renovate. I get that. You need me to move so that you can get more $$ for my apt. I had the choice to move to an already renovated one (for a lot more $$) or move somewhere else. I went to the office to talk to them about it. RUDE RUDE RUDE. Just confirmed what I was already thinking: time to move. Here's the deal, folks; THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR TENANTS. My year at the Argosy wasn't terrible, but wasn't good either. The apartments are decently priced, but the community is pretty no-frills. The worst thing that happened was when my car got broken into twice within a 6 week period. The management office didn't really offer a solution other than "park someplace different." I understand that crime isn't predictable but I feel like maybe some security gates or better lighting/more windows in the back of buuildings would help the situation. The location is good, but you sacrifice safety for it. If you do decide to live here, make sure your apartment is close to others and not in the back of the complex. I think that will minimize the security risks. read more

I am thirty years old, an AISD teacher who has lived here for about three years. When I first moved here I read MANY revues about the very neglectful and un-helpful management office team. I dismissed the warnings and moved in since the prices at the time were excellent for the location and the safety of having your own security alarm is nice. To say the very least, after being a very good tenant of three years, I have often found the staff very rood to tenants, talking about them right in front of other tenants. Among things like making many billing mistakes, blaming late bills as a result of their billing mistake on tenants, cutting off our water countless times due to water issues, neglecting work orders for water leeks, countless excuses to access our units throughout the year, and on and on and on.... The most offensive issue for me is there customer service. When I've asked for clarity on billing "mistakes", I get a long sigh and very unprofessional verbal responses... be warned! They have switched management recently but have kept the same office staff, but it seems to have only made things worse. Plus our rates are going up one hundred dollars which I would more than willingly pay had I not had that last straw moment with the abusive office staff. My experience is that they are very welcoming and kind to brand new potential tenants, but once you sign on it's a whole different story. I have made a report into the better business burial, and I'm seeking advice from apartment tenant advocates as well. No one should be treated the way they treated me. By the way I use yelp all the time, this is the very first negative revue I write. I've lived at the Argosy for over 2 years now and can say I've been pleasantly surprised. I love having wood laminate floors and high ceilings! The complex is safe and peaceful. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's located in a really friendly neighborhood with a few stores and restaurants within walking distance. There's both a bus stop and a metro stop within a couple of blocks. Yes, the Argosy is lacking many of the "bells and whistles" and rent has gone up. Unfortunately, with the housing market it's gone up everywhere. If you're looking for an affordable yet comfortable place to live, I think Argosy fits the bill. read more

The staff is great! Everyone is very nice, professional and attentive. The landscape is beautifully maintained. The rent is cheap compared to other apartments in the area. The Crestview/Brentwood neighborhood is a nice neighborhood centrally located and with lots of access to public transportation. My only complaint would be that the apartments are very dark inside. They put very dark screens on all the windows, so there is very little natural light coming in. read more

This place has some issues, not the least of which is a middle-of-nowhere location, a tremendous number of birds and bugs and the attendant problems that come with them, and absolutely terrible management. But the biggest problem I had with a place as a student was NOISE. There's no noise reduction whatsoever in the walls/windows, so hammering in any connected unit can be heard throughout the entire building, and if you're unlucky enough to have an upstairs neighbor, you will hear each of their footfalls at full volume. The place also has a very vocal bird population that seems to be active at all times of day. The person who said there were no bugs was flat-out wrong - there's a roach issue, although that's fairly common in TX. The complex was under construction at the time I rented, but I was told by the manager that the construction would be far from my apartment and not be disruptive. This was basically an outright lie. They raised the rent on my next-door neighbors, and when those neighbors moved out they "renovated". This led to drilling in their units to add in washer/dryer outlets, loud enough to drown out most speech, let alone thought. I asked them to give me times/dates when construction would occur, and their answer was basically "any time, until it's done". The construction ran through finals, and was very disruptive while I was trying to study. The management staff were very unhelpful and quite snippy when I tried to resolve these issues or at least get a discount on rent to compensate for the constant racket. The management's style is generally opaque and non-communicative - when they finally installed a passcard system for the new gym, they didn't tell anyone the passcards were available, but instead waited for us to come pick them up from the office, unannounced. Whenever I had a question or an issue, I always got the sense that I was taking time out from the management's busy day. Sorry, I just happen to be paying to live here, I didn't mean to bother you with my problems! On top of all that, this place is extraordinarily over-priced for how far it is from campus, downtown, etc. Unless you work at the convention center and take the train, it's not that convenient of a location - anyone who tells you that it's workable to use a bike to get around from here is wrong. There are a few upsides - the units look relatively nice, and they're fairly spacious. There's a pretty significant lack of storage room in the kitchen now that the washer-dryer connections are in most units, but those connections themselves probably constitute an upside - it's nice not to have to hover around a laundry complex or worry about quarters. They also recently installed an exercise center, though it's tiny and not terribly complex. That said, I'm really glad I moved out this past month. If you're looking for quiet, convenient student living, look elsewhere. read more

The location of this complex is great, as is the on-call emergency maintenance. However, best of luck getting anything else done through service requests or emails to the leasing office. The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is because when my AC went out, one of the maintenance guys was here within an hour on a Sunday to fix it. There is one guy in the office that is definitely better than the rest, but overall, any interactions with the office staff left a lot to be desired. The rent has recently increased so much in the complex that I not longer feel like the amenities they provide are worth the cost. The flooring is wood-like linoleum, for-mica counters, faux stainless appliances, and just generally dated interiors. The prices here now almost align with Midtown Commons- right around the corner and very new. read more

Moved into Argosy about 7 weeks ago ... so far, so good! Management, upkeep, parking, security, noise levels, neighbors, and overall conditions are just fine by me. Not a single insect found inside so far. Only improvements I would like in my apartment are a ceiling fan in the bedroom, an exhaust fan in the bathroom, and a sprayer for the kitchen sink. No big deal but would be nice. (thus, 4 stars in lieu of 5) I give 'em thumbs up overall! Better than most other apartment complexes in ATX based on my experience. read more

Just about to move out after living here for a year. My roommate loved that he could take the train downtown for work and a short rapid bus ride to UT campus. I worked up north in but 183 was convenient for me to jump right on and be in cedar park in 20 minutes, since it was opposite of traffic. We had a few maintenance issues that arose and I would put them in the system late at night (like 1am once) and the next morning by 9am it was already fixed, and it wasn't even an emergency! Truly incredible! The office puts on many random events with free food (almost one every week). The atmosphere is great! My cats and I loved the squirrels and birds that were always there in there numerous trees. The only downside for us was they decide to renovate all of our B3 floor plans so we were unable renew. read more

I lived at Argosy for 4 years until this summer. Although the property changed management, the maintenance staff remained reliable, helpful, and kind. I was generally happy with Argosy even though rent kept rising every year. I would have given them a four star review, except for this: When I moved out, Argosy kept over half my deposit. The deposit statement they sent me was incomprehensible, listing charges I had already paid separately (namely, my final water bill) and a pet-related charge. I sent several emails and placed several unreturned phone calls. I even called the corporate office and was given the property manager's number. I left two messages. I received exactly one response by email from Argosy, an email that gave me no new information about the charges. It said the pet-related charge was a standard cleaning fee. Why, I tried repeatedly to ask, would a standard fee come out of the deposit, and not the pet fee I already paid when I adopted my pet? If a standard fee always comes out of a deposit, isn't it not a deposit anymore, but just a hidden fee? I liked living at Argosy, but I never liked dealing with the office staff. After my initial lease was signed, I was never as valuable as new business. I know several of my neighbors, some of whom had lived at Argosy for years and years, were kicked to the curb in the last year so that the apartments could be renovated. Argosy didn't make them fair offers to transfer their leases. I'm glad I left when I did, but my last dealing with Argosy, over my deposit, was clearly unfair, and it soured my opinion of Argosy. read more

I lived here for about 2 and a half years back when it was just the Arrrrgosy. They had a ship theme going on and I liked to think of the complex in pirate terms. Car get broken into? Be glad ye was safe in your crow's nest at the time! Huge piles of cat turds in the parking lot? Buried treasure, matey! Loud party keeping you awake at 3:00 on a Monday morning? Pirate initiation, Cap'n! Homeless people wandering around your balcony at 6:00 in the morning, looking longingly into your windows? Why that's just an ol' sea dog looking for safe quarter! I got a pretty good deal on my rent when I first moved into this place including a first month free discount. The complex was at least half empty and nobody lived beside, across, or catty-cornered from me for the first year and a half at the Arrrrgosy. After that time, they raised the rent $20 a month and I considered that a fair increase and something I could swing. The apartments were filling up and I didn't want to move. After another year of living there, another managment company bought these apartments and raised the rent $80 which was about what brand new complexes were letting their apartments for at that time. Right now I'm living across and down the street in a smaller complex with more problems but for $100 less than I was paying to start off at Arrrrrrrgosy. My point is - whatever they tell you is fair market value for this complex probably isn't and the rent here is very high compared to other complexes in this area. There is a pretty large population of homeless people in the neighborhood I think because there's a day labor spot across the street, the railroad tracks are close by, and I think a lot of squatters live off to the old closed down industrial complex near here and the low woods just north of that. Some walk through the complex, but none actually had set up a spot to squat the whole time I lived there. They hung out at the Walgreens and the bus stop out front, and most of them are nonaggressive and the entire time I lived there, I got into maybe four arguments with this one aggressive homeless guy and those all ended peacefully enough. The pool was also gross as was the hot tub. I never used either the entire time I lived there. Because there were a lot of people with pets living in this complex, there was a lot of poop left on the ground despite signs warning that people who didn't pick up after their pets would be fined. Those signs didn't stop anything. There was also a lot of cats here and they would poop in areas where sand had collected close to the curb and sometimes in the tree islands where grass wasn't growing. In addiiton to those two poops, there were also a lot of oak trees planted around the parking lots which of course attracted a lot of grackles and pigeons and you know what they do best. I loved seeing and hearing all the birds though. I had a 3rd floor apartment which put them at eye level. There were a lot of car break ins while I lived here and though I can't say I ever had anything stolen, the cops patrolled here frquently enough to suggest to me property crime was a problem. I can't say that I would want my mother living here based on the safety of the place. On the plus side, the apartments here are HUGE and nice and come with everything you could possibly need. Electric washer dryer connections, huge windows, fireplaces, dishwashers, large pets are welcome and most importantly, all the units are equipped with alarms. It's very close to the 101 route and the 1L and 1M which is very very convenient if you ride the bus. If the management hadn't wanted to raise my rent $80, I would have definitely stayed there. I can see now that I was paying too much, but it was worth it (before the rent increase) for all the room and amenities the Arrrrrgosy offered. The best part about the Argosy is that I got a full refund of my deposit when I left. That's probably because they changed management companies shortly before I decided I couldn't renew my lease. Their giving me back a full refund certainly makes me look at the Arrrrrrgosy with brighter eyes. I'd still recommend it if you don't have a car or children and don't mind dodging dog and cat poop and talking to homeless people on your way to the bus stop. read more

I have enjoyed living here and for the price it is a good deal. They have complimentary non-alcoholic drinks in the office, as well as snacks. The leasing agents are friendly and the manager is too. They are quick to resolve maintenance issues. Parking is usually ample and the complex is near the metro line and bus lines. I wouldn't walk around Lamar Blvd at night, but that's not the fault of Argosy. It's a safe complex overall. Only ding I would give it is that the fitness center is outdated. Also, there is no fan in the bathroom, except for an A/C vent. But, for fitness, Planet Fitness is nearby. read more

Okay, upon moving in I was not happy with this place. But after looking around to move to a new place, I may just get a one bedroom here and stay because it puts other places to shame. CONS: They sort of lied to us in the beginning. My roommate needed to move into a place the following weekend and so we were pretty desperate. The management staff did some pretty sketchy things leading up to the move - almost not allowing us to move in - but it worked out. They aren't always on top of things - sometimes forgetting to post my rent online - but overall they are nice and responsive. It does suck that there is no ceiling fan or light source in the master bedroom. Trash sometimes overflows. My porch's wood doesn't match. My toilet has a terrible stench that nothing I do can get rid of. There's a dip in my tub that is pretty rusty and there's some mold in the corners, but nothing completely disgusting. It's ridiculous that we have to pay a portion of the whole building's water. I know I don't spend $60 worth of water every month. PROS: The pool is incredibly nice. It's always very well maintained and I've never seen it busy. The management responds quickly to your requests for maintenance. I've only ever seen one roach in my apartment (because it's Austin, and it happens). Their pest control is pretty great. There are washer and dryer hookups! Thank the lord! The kitchen has a lot of storage space. They will happily paint for you. They have their own colors to choose from for the main rooms, but they also painted my bedroom a happy yellow after I bought the paint. Didn't even charge me for the labor! How nice! It feels so safe. I can take out my trash at night as a single woman without a care. A lot of people have dogs, but I've never seen any kids around. I never hear my neighbors. THE ALARM. I love having our alarm system! It makes me feel so safe, and it's included in the rent. Location is not amazing but it's pretty darn good. Not walking distance to much besides Asian restaurants and a Walgreens, but driving distance to some great bars, restaurants, close to everything off Anderson and Burnet, and about a 15 minute drive to downtown with no traffic. Even with traffic, driving to and from downtown doesn't take longer than 45 minutes in rush hour. Overall, it's a good place. You would be safe and happy here. read more

I love living at Argosy! When I was moving I was looking for these things: pet-friendly, washer/dryer hook-ups, a safe area to walk my dog in, lots of natural light, and non carpeted floors. Argosy has all of these and on top of that is quiet, has a lovely pool, helpful maintenance staff and a new and friendly office staff (so other reviews are outdated in that respect). They painted the walls a nice light grey for me when I moved in, and it really made my apartment look more modern and updated. Anytime I've needed something fixed, maintenance was there super fast and so friendly as well! I've even seen them picking up dog poop that people have left behind (not cool, dog owners!) and they really shouldn't even have to do this! But when I saw that, I realized how much they do to keep the property looking nice. Location is awesome. Close enough to Burnet to enjoy everything going on there, but not right on it so you get that neighborhood peacefulness surrounding the complex. Overall, I just really like living here! read more

Really should be no star rating but I'm forced to give it something. I have lived here for a little over two months and have encountered several issues. First, my car was vandalized right in front of the building. When I called to ask about security, the manager made it seem ridiculous when I mentioned that several other complexes have police officers on site. And even more ridiculous when I asked if there had been a slew of cars being vandalized recently and she said the latest was 3 months ago. Not really a great record! Secondly, their maintenance crew is the worst as well as their office personnel at taking maintenance requests. Most often, maintenance has had to come out several times to fix simple things because either they are idiots or the person taking the request doesn't write down everything you tell them. Thirdly, their air conditioning system is awful. My bedroom gets absolutely no air flow and my electric bills have been $150 - $250. I've never paid more than $100 for an electric bill and I've been living in apartments for over a decade now. Would really love to break my lease! read more

i am not typically one to be snarky or negative on reviews, but i have absolutely despised the past 11 months living here. upon move in, i was told that i couldn't actually move my furniture in yet because they forgot to steam clean the carpets in my unit. i let it roll because life happens and there is no need to get all huffy. however. since i have lived here, they have turned off the water several days a month, every month. i don't work a typical 9-5 job so turning the water off for an entire day from the hours of 9am-5 pm isn't really all that helpful. also, they are constantly putting notices on our doors (which i'm sure we are paying for in fees) about the construction they are doing, water shut-offs, pool closing, repaving of the parking lot. speaking of construction -- there is constant pounding, banging, nailing, and sawing going on. at all hours. all the time. i have had so few days where i can actually enjoy being in the apartment i pay 750 dollars for. the management staff is absolutely horrible. i tried contacting them for simple questions and they are always very short, very rude and absolutely no help. i understand that there is a parent company that that manages them and that they have little control over what they can and cannot fix, however they do have control over how they handle themselves and how they treat their residents. i am moving at the end of january and i really cannot wait. i would advise you to look just about anywhere else before committing to this apartment community. read more

I live at Argosy, but am researching elsewhere to see what my options are. I really like my apartment and the location (the back closet is awesome), and they have always maintenanced things when I file maintenance reports within a day. That is all good. However, I am not really thrilled that they are upping my rent $30/month, but have only given me one week to decide whether to renew. That seems like playing hardball with me. It's very inconvenient for me as well because I co-lease with my mom, who is in San Antonio. My lease does not expire till the end of May, so this seems unreasonable bureaucracy to me. I feel we are being hardballed to renew quickly due to the rate increase. I have also noticed an inflexibility in the office staff when it comes to paperwork issues. Like my mom and I lease the apartment together, but she is usually in San Antonio, so when we renewed our property insurance, they had to have the proof of it RIGHT THEN (drop everything you are doing), even though I told them it had been renewed. They also insisted on a month's deposit from us because I wasn't employed, saying I failed their credit check. When I demanded a report from the credit check company, the only thing I was stung for was not having a job. Of course I didn't have a job; I had just moved here! Otherwise, my credit history is perfect. Have always paid my bills on time. So any little excuse to make things a hassle or sting you, it seems like they jump on them. Also, my favorite maintenance man here seems to no longer be here. His replacement seems nice enough, but you have to wonder why such a great and professional worker left. But Kari is right that otherwise it is a nice place to live, for the most part. If anything, they over-maintenance the place. The air blowers when they are blowing the leaves can be really annoying sometimes, but wouldn't bother people who are not in during the day. I just wish the upper echelon of the office staff would not play little games in the office and be so uncompromising. I've been here just about 2 years and am moving out later this summer. The management company recently changed, and I'm not yet sure the new company has much experience/knows what it's doing. A few of my highlights: -good location for catching the bus to town (1/101/5 are all close by) -close to some good bike lanes (Woodrow) to get to town/UT -convenient to pharmacy (Walgreens) and local grocery and ridiculously great pizza in Crestview -nice neighbors -safe (I'd lived in Hyde Park before and my car was broken into 3 times, but I have had zero problems here!) -nice apartments (good space, nice laminate floors, updated apartments feel new and clean, appliances work) overall. A few "low-lights": -a long commute to downtown, esp during rush hour, whether by bus, car or bike -for how far it is from town/campus, it's overpriced. Prices were incredibly reasonable when I first moved in but have gone up the max allowed by law twice since then! -maintenance is iffy and problems sometimes recur, meaning they're not really getting fixed. The maintenance guys are nice, though. -new management is iffy, and I dare say just not good. I've already had issues of not being informed of water shutoffs, mishandling of maintenance requests, screwed up billing procedures, slow followup time on requests, unhelpful new staff. I preferred the old company and am glad I don't have too many months left with the new one. I would happily have recommended this place a year ago, but the rent is now quite high and staff at times are dismissive and a little rude. That said, Austin isn't the easiest place to find housing these days. The apartments themselves are nice. You could do worse than this place, but I dare say you could do better!!! read more

I lived at Argosy @ Crestview for over a year. Overall, the property is kept up as far as building maintenance and landscaping. There is ample parking, the pool area is quite nice and has a nice dog park. The office staff is professional and helpful. Kimberly, the new apartment manager, is phenomenal. She went over and beyond my expectations. She is genuine and truly wants the tenants to be happy - which is unusual for an apartment manager, in my past experience. Also, anytime I had a maintenance issue, Martin, the maintenance man, would usually have it resolved within a day. He's also a really nice guy. Otherwise, the location is excellent - Dia's Market recently opened directly across the street. The rent is reasonable for the area. I would def recommend Argosy@Crestview! read more

There are lots of great places to live in Austin, this is not one of them. We lived here for two years during grad school. They renovated the outside, however the insides are dated and run down. You will have to call maintenance (everything is old) and they will not be prompt. The office staff was very unhelpful through out our time there. What was really disappointing was how unprofessional the office staff was after our move out. They charged us $160 for cleaning and claimed they had photos. Anna was particularly rude. We asked to see these photo and since then they have refused to contact us or return our calls. It's like dealing with children. Save yourself the headache and live somewhere else! read more

We have lived here over a year as my husband attends graduate school. We also have 2 children who attend the school in the neighborhood, very nice school and involvement with the community. The apartments are older but a fair price and the office has always responded well to our needs. Also, a plus to have the bus line directly to UT campus. read more

I have been extremely unhappy living at the Argosy at Crestview, and I'll tell you why: 1. I moved in last summer and my apartment was unfinished. They tried to renovate the unit and make space for a washer and dryer, but they didn't accomplish this by the time my lease started, and I had to settle into a living space with 2 walls and part of my ceiling exposed. It took the Argosy 3 more months to finish the job, with a few more walls being torn down in the process (which also left drywall dust over all of my belongings). The contractors they hired to handle the electricity and plumbing didn't know how to do things up to code, and they kept failing the inspection. It was another month after that before maintenance would come in to repaint. My new neighbor is now experiencing the exact same situation, so apparently the management here isn't learning from their mistakes. 2. Mold. A mysterious black patch of mold grew in a corner of my dining room where maintenance had rerouted pipes to be used for the washer and dryer unit. (FYI, I don't actually have a washer a dryer, they don't come with the apt or anything, and if you bring in your own, good luck finding a place to store your food, as the washer/dryer area is a 3x3x9 closet space where the pantry used to be.) I digress, the maintenance man came in to "test" the mold, confirmed by sight that it was obviously what I said it was, and told me he'd have to cut out the wall (again) to check what was leaking. The next day when I came home from work, all they had done is paint over the mold. And guess what! The mold came back. The second time they came in to fix it, they put caulk over it, then painted. Apparently solving the problem or preventing it from happening again is too much to ask. 3. For the last month, a cable/phone box has been dangling from a wire on the outside of my building. The box is exactly on the opposite side of the wall from where my headboard is in my bedroom, so picture going to sleep at night with an electrical hazard less than a foot from your head. At the same time, the security alarm in my apartment has stopped working, so there is obviously a connection. I've talked to the office staff every week for four weeks about these safety concerns, and every time they said "it's the cable company's problem. they still haven't come out to fix it?" Furthermore, they told me that I had to contact the alarm company myself and request a technician come out. Little did I know, the next day, a technician did come out to look at my alarm, and apparently the office staff let him into my apartment without calling me or getting my permission. The alarm company then reported the problem was fixed, even though my alarm still does not work, because the cable box is still hanging from a wire outside my building. When I complained to the office staff that this is NOT the way to treat their tenants, the girl at the desk made up a bunch of excuses and said it's not their fault or problem, and they can't do anything about it. She ended up yelling at me and sarcastically screamed, "Yea okay, it's all MY fault. Have a 'nice' day!" UGH! 4. There's also a disturbing cockroach infestation. I am obsessively clean, but when you have open walls and ceilings for several months, cockroaches tend to take advantage. As you might have guessed, the management at the Argosy couldn't care less, and they conveniently "forget" to call pest control to spray. I have never seen a business so poorly managed. The staff at the Argosy are the most ridiculous and unprofessional group of people I have ever encountered. Their maintenance request system is to write your issue on a sticky note. They take no responsibility for the problems in their apartments. They clearly have no skills or training in customer service and have no concern for their tenants' safety or well-being. The decent neighborhood the complex is located in is not nearly enough to make me renew my lease. You cannot make a house/apt a home when you have problems like these, and with these kids running the show, problems at the Argosy are only going to get worse, so steer clear. read more

Pros: The property itself is in decent condition, the floorplans are spacious for the price (or were when we signed a lease), and I've never had issues with neighbors or heard of anyone having their car/apartment broken into. Safe enough, decent people, convenient location. Cons: Maintenance won't show unless you use the emergency line. Rent is skyrocketing (but where in Austin isn't?), and this place isn't worth the extra $ they wanted for the next year. Biggest con of all - horrible management. Nearly every time I go into the office there are new faces, the employees change frequently. As a result you wind up with folks in the office who are unfamiliar with the property and its policies, so they aren't all that helpful. Furthermore, if you have any kind of issue, be it maintenance, utilities, etc...don't expect them to offer any solutions. They will give you the run around or stare at you blankly. You'll end up incredibly frustrated, inconvenienced, definitely wasting time, and possibly losing money. We wound up with paperwork being lost or misfiled, and no one in the office was willing to accept responsibility, much less offer helpful advice or any sort of solution. IF you decide to live here, do yourself a favor and make copies of everything before handing it over to the office. Incompetence is rampant. Check out the older reviews versus more recent ones, it seems management has been in a steady decline. TL;DR - find somewhere else to live, read reviews first. No amount of convenience or lower rent could convince me to stay. read more

Positives: Responsive maintenance crew and nice pool. Negatives: Roaches - Our building had a serious infestation problem. During our last month there, we were seeing at least half a dozen small roaches per day in the kitchen, despite being very clean and having pest control come out regularly. Insulation - The apartment was poorly insulated, resulting in higher than necessary AC bills and lots of noise from outside and surrounding apartments. Management - Generally unfriendly and minimally helpful. Questionable Charges - They withheld over $300 from our security deposit to replace the carpet. The carpet had 3 years worth of normal wear and tear, however was not damaged or stained beyond what would be expected after normal use. They also withheld $95 for a 'standard' pet cleaning fee, which was not clearly outlined or discussed in the lease. Rent - Rent increased each year and far surpassed what these apartments are worth. read more

I've been here 3 yrs and am moving out in August. I lived thru the renovation here, and for my trouble, have one of the few unrenovated apts in the place. But that doesn't mean I don't pay top dollar. I've enjoyed it for the most part, but it's just become too expensive to live here. I started out here 3 yrs ago paying $850, free water. The electric bills are thru the roof. The apts are evidently not very well insulated. I freeze in the winter and broil in the summer, this despite $200 elec bills! They began charging for water last summer, and those bills are a steady $50/mo, altho I was told they'd go down in the winter months. Not true. I live in the rear of the complex and haven't experienced the problems with break ins and homeless people. Altho my upstairs neighbor was very loud, physical, and profane. Very accessible to UT, however. read more

I've lived here for almost three years and genuinely enjoyed it. There have been a few changes in the management and leasing team since I moved in, but the current one is fantastic! They are so helpful and accommodating, just all around really nice people. I have had one or two occasions of noisy upstairs neighbors but that is just run of the mill apartment stuff wherever you live. It has a great pool, a cute dog run for the pups (it would be nice if it was a little bigger, but it still gives the dogs room to run around a bit) and a nice little gym. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. read more
