We live Venezuelan food and ur favorite family run place in nyc closed during covid but after eating here - we will just have to fly to Montreal to come back here From the service all the way from requesting a reservation to the front person welcoming attitude to the excellent table service and above all awesome food Definitely a place we will back to
To be honest, I've never considered myself a massive fan of arepas, because the few I've had in the past have often been dry or under-filled. This was definitely not the case here -- the A10 REINA PEPIADA AREPA ($13.50) was overflowing with tender shredded chicken in a creamy avocado sauce. I hadn't expected the filling to be cold, but this was essentially an elevated chicken salad, and the arepa itself was warm and fresh, with a great corn flavor. I'd love to try all their other flavors! When getting takeout, the arepas come with small containers of hot sauce and avocado sauce (I believe the same one that's in the Reina pepiada), whereas when eating in the restaurant, those sauces are available in bottles at each table and the arepa is served with an additional side salad.
Visiting Montreal, my friend recommended this dedicated GF eatery for our lunch meeting! The fact that you can eat anything on the menu is fantastic, but everything we tried was super delicious! My other friend was also able to eat nut-free. I had the Chicken and Avocado arepa, which came with a delightful side salad. A truly generous portion of shredded chicken, blended with avocado mayonnaise and some chopped onion on a corn bread pita!! So good! And so safe! A win-win!! Marveilleux et délicieux!!
I was in a food-rut and my boyfriend recommended this place and I am so glad he did because it was delicious! Something new that I've never tasted before. Got the avocado beef arepa and feta cheese arepa and it was so filling and savoury! the mango juice was also great. Fresh flavours, lots of options on the menu, and friendly staff. Prices are cheap, you get a lot of quality ingredients in abundance, and it's fast. There was a lineup of people when we arrived so I put my name and number down and after one walk around the block they were ready for us. It's the perfect food to eat out in the park on a sunny day as well.
This is one of my new favorite spots to eat in Montreal. If you're going here, you must order an Arepa - and if it's your first time, I highly recommend the beef! I ordered La Pelua, which had shredded stewed beef and a generous helping of shredded cheddar cheese. The juices are also fresh and flavorful. Try a fruit you're not used to - you'll be pleasantly surprised! I tried two: both the guava juice and the lulo juice were equally tasty. I also got a side of platanos con queso, which were sweet and satisfying. We went after 8pm on a Tuesday night - it was pretty busy and we waited about 15 minutes to be seated.
Tucked away in the middle of the Prince Arthur pedestrian mall, this little place is one of our absolute favorite spots in the city. The food is incredible, the drinks are amazing and for those of you that care, there isn't a shred of gluten in the building.
Fresh and tasty. The meats were juicy and delicious. We tried the pork with black beans, plantain and feta cheese and beef, black beans, plantain, feta. I preferred the pork one. The empanadas were so crispy. Good, friendly service. Fresh and tasty. The meats were juicy and delicious. Stopped here for a solo lunch on a Saturday as this place was recommended by the guide of a mural walking tour I did and I was hungry! The place is close to a lot of great shops and cafes in the Plateau and there is a ton of seating. Service is pretty fast so it's good for a quick bite. I visited in October 2022 and they were still very mindful of COVID precautions (hand sanitizer, people picking up take out orders did not have to enter all the way, QR code for menu and ordering). I had the reina pepiada which is a classic and always the first thing I order if trying a new arepa restaurant. It was really good and came with a little side salad. They don't skimp on filling and the arepa was not too dry as it can be sometimes. I am adding this to my list of Montreal faves!
I came here later at night after a long day of flights into Montreal. Really having no idea where to eat, this place popped up on the yelp top for the neighborhood. Suddenly having a craving for empanadas and an arepa, I decided to give it a go. The service was efficient, helpful, and friendly. I appreciated each staff member I encountered, they all did a great job. The place was full but fortunately they had a community table where I could eat. My first pleasant surprise on the menu was guanabana (soursop) juice. Starting with the empanadas. I got the mix non-vegetarian. Brought me back to my time in the Dominican Republic. They were fresh, hot, and tasty. Lastly the arepa itself. I was in the mood for pork and got the roast pork one. Like everything else, the food was flavorful and just the right portions. The star of the show was the avocado salsa. I put it on everything!
Stopped here for lunch on our journey to Quebec city. Amazing place. Fresh food. Awesome juices. We loved guava juice. Empanadas and Arepas were amazing!! Parking might be difficult to find but worth the trouble I guess. Highly recommended to try this spot if you are in Montreal!!
It's been a couple years since my original visit to Arepera. They've moved into a more open and spacious place, close to Dispensaire Brewing Company. We dropped in for a late Thursday lunch (around 1:30pm) but it was still busy. You order directly using the QR code. Everything on the menu is 100% gluten free. The menu consists of arepas, empanadas, appetizers, plates and desserts. Make sure you get your money's worth of the avocado cream sauce. The hot sauce/salsa was decent but pales in comparison to the avocado cream sauce. - Guanabana juice ($3.75) - love anything soursop. Good but a really tiny cup. - Mixed empanadas (E7) ($7.50 for 3) - meats were tasty and the empanada perfectly deep fried. The only downside, again, is the portion size. - Chicharrón al horno (A18) ($12.00) - the arugula salad hasn't changed, still is refreshing. The pork belly meat was tasty, with a few end pieces almost going into the chicharron territory. Good Venezuelan eats at Arepera but small portions. 3.5 stars.
You know a place is good when it makes all of the other spectacular food you had look bad. Arepera was the absolute perfect end to our trip. The avocado sauce is made fresh every day and the guy who makes it was delightful. The food only took a second to come out and could not have been more delicious.
Great vive ! The place is clean and spacious . Our server Victoria was great. The food was really big servings and flavors full. The only take will be the empanadas de cazón are not really cazón and the taste is kind of bland. Everything was excellent
My arepa was very good. I got the chicken in avocado sauce. The outside was crisped perfectly and the chicken was very tasty. Service was quick and since it was a beautiful day I ate outside on one of the picnic tables. Nice to people watch, but watch for yellow jackets that were in the garden behind tables-they didn't give me too much of a problem and stuck to the flowers but they were buzzing around me to check out my food. read more

We love this place for the cool atmosphere and delicious arepas. Photos of musicians decorate the place featuring artists from the 1960s. I enjoyed the La Llanera arepa which contains shredded beef, cheese and avocado. My bf enjoyed the plate of pollo guisado. Most of the staff is trilingual in English, French and Spanish. We also enjoyed their cocktails. I had a mango loco with mango juice and rum and bf had one with guava juice and rum. They do not serve wine and the only beers they serve are gluten free beers that we tried on previous visits and did not enjoy much. The food and décor are amazing but their drink menu could use some improvement/ amplification. Maybe not the best place to come if you want a variety of drinks but the food is great and prices are quite reasonable for a satisfying bite. read more

Came here after my sister, a celiac, went with our uncle and loved it. Owner is lovely, spoke to us in Spanish and service was overall great, nice guy. Food is absolutely delicious, easy on the stomach, and didn't make my sister, the celiac, sick. The place is 100% gluten free so there is no chance of cross-contamination and is really good, even if you don't usually like gluten free food! I don't know what the avocado sauce was but it was really delicious. I highly recommend anyone craving really good Venezuelan food or anyone with celiac or gluten sensitivities to come here. 10/10 great experience, we went twice in 2 days because of how good it was. read more

Back after a few years, I've been meaning to come back but it never worked out. We had to get food to go because of the COVID restaurant closures. We got home the food was still hot and oh so delicious. I was soooo hungry i failed to take pics. I had the yucca fries, some of the best i've ever had, i had the vegan plantain, black beans, avocado arepera and the fried plantain. It is all excellent as i had remembered. I will make sure i don't let another 2 yrs go by before returning... read more
Are you looking for a place that is 100% gluten-free, 100% Venezuelean and 100% AMAZING ?? Well Arepera is all that and more! We stumbled upon this amazing restaurant after our friends recommended it to us. We had no idea about it until the magic of word of mouth. We decided to check it out over the weekend came around 13:00 for some lunch and it was awesome to see benches outside.. a small mini park where you can sit in the beautiful sun and eat your lunch. We ordered a few sandwiches. And ate it outside. The service: Absolutely fantastic! They are super quick and efficient. We ordered like 5 items and they were ready in like 5-10 minutes woow super amazing. There were people in front of us as well but they were super quick. They make you wait outside but call out your number through a microphone so you hear it from outside. The food: ABSOLUTELY Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious !!!! It was amazingly fresh and delicious. 5++++++++++ .. I ordered the reina pepiada and woow the avocado dressing was one of a kind! Sandwiches were insanely generous and filling! Overall: service food ambiance and the fact that it was such a beautiful day 15 degrees it was perfect weather to eat outside on the benches. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something different, insanely fresh, tender and melt in your mouth. Cheers! read more

Amazing arepas and a fun casual vibe!! They have a huge menu from arepas to platters and a delicious juice selection (the guanabana is a def must). VEGAN FRIENDLY as well! 1 order of arepa is enough to make for a satisfying meal, good value. The pernil arepa has roasted pork, beans, plantains, feta cheese and is mouthwatering good. Highly recommend. Yucca fries are also A+. Service is great, everyone is nice and attentive. FYI: I recommend calling ahead of time for their hours because I think they close earlier than the website indicates. Overall, 10/10 experience!! read more
This was a delightful spot--those in Montreal are quite lucky to have it! It was nice to go to a restaurant that has plenty of gluten free offerings that taste scrumptious. (We went to a spot for lunch today that it is highly recommended and the one dish they suggested was a chia pudding, not palatable to a six year old). The arepas were so fluffy and crispy--the chicken was good in tomato sauce but I enjoyed the avocado sauce one even better. The empanadas were great as well. We loved the airiness of the restaurant and the live music. Would definitely come back the next time we are in town. read more
I didn't expect the arepa to be stuffed with so much filling but wow - I couldn't even take a bite from each ends of the arepa. Had to eat some of the filling first haha. definitely add the spicy and cilantro sauce they give you. You can either get the arepa sandwich w a side Salad or a plate which comes with filling, rice, beans, plantains and an arepa on the side Also you must get the empanadas. You can get a choice of filling: chicken / beef / or cheese. The breading for this was something else. Great service and loads of spots to sit. Highly recommended!!! read more

This place has a great spicy salsa and avocado sauce. I drowned my arepa in it. The avocado sauce is made fresh every day and you can really taste it. I had the beef arepa with plantains beans and cheese. It is the best arepa I've ever had read more
Hipster latino food featuring mainly arepa sandwiches. Bigger, and definitely more trendy that I expected with their awesome portrait paintings. My rating is very likely due to my mistake of ordering a black bean soup (filling me up with bloated heaviness, wasn't anything special) before my main meal could be enjoyed. I managed to consume of the argula salad (bitter) and maybe 2 bites of my arepa before calling it quits. My other friends had a much better experience... ordering a variety from fancy cheeses to pulled pork to chicken, everyone loved their selections. They would probably rate this place a 4/5. Also staff was very cool about doing seperate checks to make it easier for us. Anyways moral of story is don't eat a giant can of black beans before your entree if you want to have a good time. read more

100% gluten free heaven. This place is delicious! I have celiac disease so it was amazing not having to worry about a single thing I ordered. My friends all loved the food as well. The service was so friendly and quick that we came back multiple times on our visit to Montreal! I highly recommend the yuca fries, and the plantains as starters. Any of the arepas are amazing! read more
WOW. This place is amazing. The atmosphere is really cool. The decor gives of a Latin vibe and there are mountains of avocados/ plantains right near the kitchen. There are also long benches for people who are waiting to sit on so it wasn't a bad 20 minute wait at 9pm on a Saturday night. The menu is extensive ranging from different arepa sandwiches (vegetarian options too) to plates. All of the arepa's are gluten-free as well! We ordered the yuca fries with green avocado sauce to start with. Let me tell you, this sauce is something I should smuggle back to the US.. I could eat SO much of the sauce.. dipping it with bread, arepas, potatoes, anything. I ordere an arepa with chicharron, black beans, and avocado. It was AMAZING!!! The sandwich was so hot, the chicharron was cooked so well, and the best part is that the sandwich was only $10 CAD. I would definitely come back here, and the staff like working here so it's a plus for everyone. (Music is also really good) read more

I had lunch here with my mom, and we both loved it. We both had the arepas. I had the shredded beef with plantains, black beans and feta arepa ($9) and she had the shredded chicken in tomato sauce arepa ($8). They both came with a tiny watercress side salad. The arepas were stuffed full. Mine had too little beef for my liking, but the beef it did have was tender and flavourful. The plantains were sweet and went well with the nippy feta. The black beans were nicely done - not too mushy nor too hard. All the ingredients blended together well in the sandwich. They did bring some hot sauce and avocado sauce to the table, but I felt that the sandwich didn't need any additional sauces. The arepa itself was nice and fluffy on the inside and a bit harder on the outside, just the way I like it. It's like an English Muffin but made of corn instead of wheat. The watercress salad had some of the avocado sauce on it. It was tasty, but pretty simple. I mean, it was just watercress after all (no other vegetables). My mom enjoyed her arepa but felt that it was too wet. She said by the end, the bottom of her sandwich was all soggy. She also felt it was a bit boring with just the shredded chicken. She said she regretted not ordering one of the pork ones. The place is really small, with just over 20 seats or so. We arrived a little before noon and the doors were still locked. They unlocked right at noon (their opening time) and we and 2 other customers entered. By 12:30pm, the place was packed. It was a weekday. Service was friendly and efficient. The place is super cute. It gets a bit loud though. I would come back for sure :) read more

I came here with the girls after dress shopping on St-Laurent. It was pretty busy but we managed to get a table at 9pm on a Friday night. This was my first visit but the other girls had been there before. I have never had Venezuelan food before and it definitely will not be my last! Everything was so good!! I ordered a pitcher of white sangria for the table. It tasted like juice which was a bit disappointing but I did not come here for the sangria. Next time I would totally add shots to the pitcher! The girls ordered two palitos de yuca con guasacaca to share for the table. These are like thick cassava fries that you dip into avocado sauce. It was so good! Cassava for those who do not know is a root vegetable similar to potatoes. It was so good I ordered an extra serving! That avocado sauce is so bomb!! I heard you can actually buy it in store but I think I will just google it and make this sauce at home because I imagine that it must be pretty simple enough to make. I put this sauce and the chilli sauce that they had on the table on everything I ate that night! So arepa is a traditional Venezuelan/Colombian gluten-free bread made with corn. My colleague who is Venezuelan told me to get either the Pabellon (beef) arepa or the Reina Pepiada (chicken) arepa. The girls and I all had the Pabellon, which is basically corn bread in the shape of a soft taco with minced beef, back beans, plantains and feta cheese inside. OMG this was good and very filling! It also came with a small side of salad which was nothing special but I still ate it all. I will totally come back and try the Reina Pepiada!! This restaurant is good and affordable. My Venezuelan colleague told me he found it expensive for Venezuelan food but for non-Venezuelan people it is A-OK! read more

A Pabellón de Pernil Arepa was delicious! The perfect blend of sweet and savory. They also provide two squeeze bottles of sauce for you to add if you want. The green sauce was amazing and I couldn't stop squeezing more and more of it on! The hot sauce also adds a nice little kick. read more
What a gem! We came here because my friend is gluten free, and they are one of the few restaurants in Montreal with an entire gluten free menu. It is absolutely delicious, very reasonably priced and with a great, friendly, relaxed and colourful vibe. We were instantly welcomed by the personable waiter. I ordered the chicken, feta and avocado sandwich, the big fries that come with the famous (and delicious!) avocado sauce, followed by a plantain cheesecake and guava juice. I would definitely return to this restaurant. It's perfect for those who are looking for delicious Venezuelan food. read more
