Visiting Montreal, my friend recommended this dedicated GF eatery for our lunch meeting! The fact that you can eat anything on the menu is fantastic, but everything we tried was super delicious! My other friend was also able to eat nut-free. I had the Chicken and Avocado arepa, which came with a delightful side salad. This was definitely not the case here -- the A10 REINA PEPIADA AREPA ($13.50) was overflowing with tender shredded chicken in a creamy avocado sauce. I hadn't expected the filling to be cold, but this was essentially an elevated chicken salad, and the arepa itself was warm and fresh, with a great corn flavor. I'd love to try all their other flavors! When getting takeout, the arepas come with small containers of hot sauce and avocado sauce (I believe the same one that's in the Reina pepiada), whereas when eating in the restaurant, those sauces are available in bottles at each table and the arepa is served with an additional side salad. read more

This is one of my new favorite spots to eat in Montreal. If you're going here, you must order an Arepa - and if it's your first time, I highly recommend the beef! Try a fruit you're not used to - you'll be pleasantly surprised! I tried two: both the guava juice and the lulo juice were equally tasty. Stopped here for a solo lunch on a Saturday as this place was recommended by the guide of a mural walking tour I did and I was hungry! The place is close to a lot of great shops and cafes in the Plateau and there is a ton of seating. Service is pretty fast so it's good for a quick bite. I visited in October 2022 and they were still very mindful of COVID precautions (hand sanitizer, people picking up take out orders did not have to enter all the way, QR code for menu and ordering). I had the reina pepiada which is a classic and always the first thing I order if trying a new arepa restaurant. It was really good and came with a little side salad. They don't skimp on filling and the arepa was not too dry as it can be sometimes. I am adding this to my list of Montreal faves! read more

I came here later at night after a long day of flights into Montreal. Really having no idea where to eat, this place popped up on the yelp top for the neighborhood. Suddenly having a craving for empanadas and an arepa, I decided to give it a go. The service was efficient, helpful, and friendly. It's been a couple years since my original visit to Arepera. They've moved into a more open and spacious place, close to Dispensaire Brewing Company. We dropped in for a late Thursday lunch (around 1:30pm) but it was still busy. You order directly using the QR code. Everything on the menu is 100% gluten free. The menu consists of arepas, empanadas, appetizers, plates and desserts. Make sure you get your money's worth of the avocado cream sauce. The hot sauce/salsa was decent but pales in comparison to the avocado cream sauce. - Guanabana juice ($3.75) - love anything soursop. Good but a really tiny cup. - Mixed empanadas (E7) ($7.50 for 3) - meats were tasty and the empanada perfectly deep fried. The only downside, again, is the portion size. - Chicharrón al horno (A18) ($12.00) - the arugula salad hasn't changed, still is refreshing. The pork belly meat was tasty, with a few end pieces almost going into the chicharron territory. Good Venezuelan eats at Arepera but small portions. 3.5 stars. read more

We love this place for the cool atmosphere and delicious arepas. Photos of musicians decorate the place featuring artists from the 1960s. I enjoyed the La Llanera arepa which contains shredded beef, cheese and avocado. My bf enjoyed the plate of pollo guisado. Most of the staff is trilingual in English, French and Spanish. We also enjoyed their cocktails. I had a mango loco with mango juice and rum and bf had one with guava juice and rum. They do not serve wine and the only beers they serve are gluten free beers that we tried on previous visits and did not enjoy much. The food and décor are amazing but their drink menu could use some improvement/ amplification. Maybe not the best place to come if you want a variety of drinks but the food is great and prices are quite reasonable for a satisfying bite. read more

Okay so maybe I'm biased but Venezuelan food is heavily under rated and super super delicious and as someone who's half Venezuelan I feel I can judge a good spot when I taste one. Arepera has a good size menu so you can definitely try more then a few things. My recommendations are to go in with an appetite and start with the cheese and bean empanadas. They are crispy golden and delicious. Then order a juice they have a few great options like passion fruit and brown sugar like and both are a hit. Then the crucial moment picking out which arepa you want. You have chicken beef pork veggie and vegan options and at some point you should try them all. If you want to go traditional go for La reina Pepida this is an OG and they way it's made back at home. If your looking to get a bite of everything try any of the proteins with plantain, cheese and beans you'll thank me later. The only way this dish gets better is if you add the heavenly gusacaca sauce a creamy avocado based sauce that you can eat by the bucket full. If you got room for dessert the coconut flan is a must. You will come for the food but the service is always quick and phenomenal and that is the combo that keeps me coming back. Authentic eats in a cozy location that's always ready to welcome you in. Food is absolutely delicious, easy on the stomach, and didn't make my sister, the celiac, sick. The place is 100% gluten free so there is no chance of cross-contamination and is really good, even if you don't usually like gluten free food! I don't know what the avocado sauce was but it was really delicious. My rating is very likely due to my mistake of ordering a black bean soup (filling me up with bloated heaviness, wasn't anything special) before my main meal could be enjoyed. I managed to consume of the argula salad (bitter) and maybe 2 bites of my arepa before calling it quits. My other friends had a much better experience... ordering a variety from fancy cheeses to pulled pork to chicken, everyone loved their selections. They would probably rate this place a 4/5. WOW. This place is amazing. The atmosphere is really cool. The decor gives of a Latin vibe and there are mountains of avocados/ plantains right near the kitchen. There are also long benches for people who are waiting to sit on so it wasn't a bad 20 minute wait at 9pm on a Saturday night. The menu is extensive ranging from different arepa sandwiches (vegetarian options too) to plates. All of the arepa's are gluten-free as well! We ordered the yuca fries with green avocado sauce to start with. Let me tell you, this sauce is something I should smuggle back to the US.. I could eat SO much of the sauce.. dipping it with bread, arepas, potatoes, anything. I ordere an arepa with chicharron, black beans, and avocado. It was AMAZING!!! The sandwich was so hot, the chicharron was cooked so well, and the best part is that the sandwich was only $10 CAD. I had lunch here with my mom, and we both loved it. We both had the arepas. I had the shredded beef with plantains, black beans and feta arepa ($9) and she had the shredded chicken in tomato sauce arepa ($8). They both came with a tiny watercress side salad. The arepas were stuffed full. Mine had too little beef for my liking, but the beef it did have was tender and flavourful. The plantains were sweet and went well with the nippy feta. The black beans were nicely done - not too mushy nor too hard. All the ingredients blended together well in the sandwich. They did bring some hot sauce and avocado sauce to the table, but I felt that the sandwich didn't need any additional sauces. The arepa itself was nice and fluffy on the inside and a bit harder on the outside, just the way I like it. It's like an English Muffin but made of corn instead of wheat. The watercress salad had some of the avocado sauce on it. It was tasty, but pretty simple. I mean, it was just watercress after all (no other vegetables). My mom enjoyed her arepa but felt that it was too wet. She said by the end, the bottom of her sandwich was all soggy. She also felt it was a bit boring with just the shredded chicken. She said she regretted not ordering one of the pork ones. The place is really small, with just over 20 seats or so. We arrived a little before noon and the doors were still locked. They unlocked right at noon (their opening time) and we and 2 other customers entered. By 12:30pm, the place was packed. It was a weekday. Service was friendly and efficient. The place is super cute. I came here with the girls after dress shopping on St-Laurent. It was pretty busy but we managed to get a table at 9pm on a Friday night. This was my first visit but the other girls had been there before. I have never had Venezuelan food before and it definitely will not be my last! Everything was so good!! The girls ordered two palitos de yuca con guasacaca to share for the table. These are like thick cassava fries that you dip into avocado sauce. It was so good! Cassava for those who do not know is a root vegetable similar to potatoes. It was so good I ordered an extra serving! That avocado sauce is so bomb!! I heard you can actually buy it in store but I think I will just google it and make this sauce at home because I imagine that it must be pretty simple enough to make. I put this sauce and the chilli sauce that they had on the table on everything I ate that night! So arepa is a traditional Venezuelan/Colombian gluten-free bread made with corn. My colleague who is Venezuelan told me to get either the Pabellon (beef) arepa or the Reina Pepiada (chicken) arepa. The girls and I all had the Pabellon, which is basically corn bread in the shape of a soft taco with minced beef, back beans, plantains and feta cheese inside. OMG this was good and very filling! It also came with a small side of salad which was nothing special but I still ate it all. I will totally come back and try the Reina Pepiada!! This restaurant is good and affordable. My Venezuelan colleague told me he found it expensive for Venezuelan food but for non-Venezuelan people it is A-OK! read more
