More or less get the job done (always at least a few minutes late - that "we'll be there in five minutes" line is BS), but frequently don't answer their phone when I'm trying to schedule a pick up or when the car is late and I need the status, and are always incredibly rude. Most recently, they actually refused to schedule a pickup ahead of time, said to call back at the exact time I wanted the cab to pick me up, and then hung up on me. Won't use them again. read more

Don't pay any attention to the bad reviews-they're all full of it. We flew in on the 21st of Oct and consistently used them until Oct 26th. They came when they said they would. They were friendly. The cars were new and clean. Their fares were the same as yellow cab and in many cases CHEAPER. I HIGHLY recommend this company. Even though they are based in Brooklyn, going to Manhattan is no issue. There is nothing like arriving at your destination in a nice Lincoln towncar-yeh baby! Rock on Arecibo. When we return to NY I know who I'll be using. Reno Dave read more

I think this is a great Brooklyn car service. The cars are very nice, well kept, and ride smoothly. The drivers are punctual, safe and courteous. We plan on calling them when I go into labor for our ride to the hospital if that is any indication of how much better this car service is than others we have dealt with! read more

Arecibo has been great every time I've used them. I once woke up late and called them to get me to JFK ASAP from Brooklyn. They were at my door in five minutes and got me to the airport on time. They also take credit cards, which is incredibly convenient. read more

All I have to say is...they saved me from ikea car service which was about to rip me off with $24 fare to park slope. and they were so fast. Arecibo to the rescue is all I have to say. read more

I arranged with them to pick my cousin up at 7pm today, just 4 blocks from their office, and bring her to JFK; they NEVER showed up. She almost missed the flight, luckily a regular taxi brought her on time. These guys are not reliable: they don't pick up the phone, don't know what to answer when you ask about their reasons... Better try any of the other options in the area. read more

Arrived late. The driver was reckless and came within inches of having a major accident getting into JFK airport. Arecibo's site claims that they take credit card, but my driver refused to take credit. There are other car services in Brooklyn. Do yourself a favor. Go with an alternative. read more

I had a great experience with this car service, recommended to me by a friend who lives in Brooklyn. I needed to get from Brooklyn to the airport, so I called them the night before. They were outside waiting exactly on time for pick up, got to the airport in good time, and the driver was cordial, helpful, and on top of things as far as payment and getting where I needed to go. The flat rate from Flatbush Ave to LaGuardia was 35 dollars. After being driven around the block several times taking a yellow cab from the airport to the address I needed in Brooklyn, I appreciated not having to answer to a meter and having the driver focus on just getting me there as fast as possible. Car was clean, and payment by credit card was easy. I would definitely use these folks again. Be prepared - the people who answer the phone do not speak English particularly well, so be clear, enunciate, and double-check before hanging up if you feel you need to. read more

After confirming twice that the car was coming - left my wife and kid outside in the freezing cold for 45 minutes. Never again. Lots of better options out there. read more

The driver was on time in a clean car. The front seat passenger seat belt wasn't working but we all fit in the spacious back seat. The driver also helped with bags and did not mind waiting the few minutes it took us to get everything onto the snowy sidewalk. He was a great driver and got us to JFK in great time. They are reasonable and also have carseats for $5. If I lived in New York, I would use them all the time! read more

Terrible, terrible company. The customer service at the dispatch is horrible/rude/doesn't care. Drivers quote different rates. One driver overcharged a drunk friend a considerable amount. Obviously the responsibly was for the passenger to handle their money -- but that's pretty terrible that the driver took advantage of the situation. Don't recommend. read more

I never write reviews but Arecibo had been so terrible now for so long I felt that I should warn others. I used to use Arecibo all the time but their service has become terrible in recent years. They show up late--which is a real problem if you are trying to make a flight or an appointment. The drivers are always rude and clearly don't take care of their cars. Recently I asked dispatch if I could pay with a credit card and they said yes, but when the car showed up the driver insisted I take out cash from a local ATM, and by then it was too late to find a new car because they had already arrived so late (as usual). Now that there is more competition for cabs in South Brooklyn, I recommend anybody but Arecibo. read more

I have lived in NYC for 12 years and am used to people being rough and upfront. I just called to book a car at arrecibo and the man on the phone was so rude. Impatient, aggressive, swore at me for not knowing a cross street the second he asked me. So bad that I put the phone down before I even booked the car. With attitude like god knows what car would have turned up. read more

Arecibo did what no other car service would or could do and they did it very well! I opened an account for friends and family to use at my expense when going to and from my son's wedding. As far as I know, everyone was accommodated without incident. I received an itemized bill shortly after the event and I intend to maintain my account for future use. Thank you Arecibo for a job well done! read more

First car service to call if you're taking your dog! My dog injured her leg running during legal off-leash hours in Prospect Park one morning. I called Arecebo to meet me at the closest road bordering the park, and we were on our way in the car service in 5 minutes as promised. I also take them to JFK and Laguardia airports; the are always on time (unless I don't give them sufficient notice on a high demand day) and the drivers know their way around traffic and are always fair. I don't look for overly friendly or good conversation on a taxi ride, but Arecebo drivers have always provided it when I turn to them for that. Prices are fair and reasonable, too! read more

Hands down the worst car service ever. Made me stand in the snow with a sick animal for 20 minutes.

Our Airbnb host recommended Aercibo and we are happy she did. The dispatcher quoted $35 and the driver confirmed this. Our driver, Santo Mesa, was very friendly and a good driver. Aercibo took our reservation for 2 pm and Santo arrived exactly on time for our trip to La Guardia. Definitely would use Aercibo again! read more

Wish I could give them zero stars- A driver picked us up at LGA- when we got to our destination- the driver physically took our CC- he did not swipe in front of us or offer us to swipe ourselves- the charge was emailed to us by Square. Within 24 hours- 2 more charges from Square showed up- totaling $375. Arecibo was the only place we used this card that entire day or the next. We contacted our CC company and now have to go thru the hassle of canceling all of our auto pays. Worst than that, we contacted Arecibo. The WORST customer service ever!, they actually had the driver call us to deny what he obviously did. They passed me to 3-4 different people as the manager was on vacation. I asked for another manager. All I kept getting was a dispatcher. We emailed a copy of all the charges to one of the dispatchers to prove what happened. Then they said the driver said we paid cash when we had the proof we used a card. Every call was worst than the one before- I stopped taking their calls. I gave them a chance to find out what happened but they have no idea how to deal with customers. There are a lot of car services out there- DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!!! And never give your CC to anyone!! Update-The owners son called and they determined the driver was guilty- still a major hassle but the company gets points for admitting their driver stole our cc#. Based on that I have to say it's more than most would've done. Thank you Oscar. read more

Reserved a taxi the night before an early train from Penn station. After years of having Arceibo be my car service go-to and being very happy with them (we nicknamed them Arceibo-5-minutes due to their speedy response times) I've finally given up on trying to use them. The drivers are generally nice enough, but the dispatchers are the worst! The last straw was getting picked up at LGA last night. I specifically asked if a car was at the airport already and was told yes, one would be there in less than 10 minutes. The car arrived after more than 30 minutes and told me he had been stuck in traffic and hadn't actually been in the airport at all. And then the driver proceeded to talk on his phone non-stop for the entire trip. Annoying *and* illegal. read more

I have no complaints. I got stiffed by another competitor, Quickride Corp. So I called Arecibo. They sent me a minivan to JFK within 10 minutes of calling them. Driver was very focused on his job. No unnecessary loose talk. He helped us load 6 big suitcases and 3 small ones with a pleasant demeanor. Maybe I just got lucky. I don't know. My personal experience is definitely worthy of 5 stars. read more

I would give a minus number if I could. I ordered a taxi and missed a call from them by a few seconds, so I called them back right away. I would say this is the worst car service in NY area; AVOID IT! read more

Up until today I loved Arecibo and had nothing bad to say about the service. But I had a very rude driver, and honestly I can get over THAT. But according to the dispatcher, Arecibo has this new charging program for credit cars that allows the driver to assign whatever tip he wants, and the driver charged me a $7 tip. When I called to complain, he yelled at me on the phone and said it was my fault for allowing him to do it, and I told him I had morning sickness and had to exit the car immediately...I don't know if any of you have had morning sickness in a car, but priority #1 is to get the hell out. So this is just a warning, make sure you let them know what tip you want to leave when paying with a card or else they take it upon themselves to do it for you--at least this driver did. read more

After calling 3-4 places, they were the ones who answered the phone and got there in 15 min. Nice clean car, efficient driver, and $33 from Prospect Heights to LGA. I have been using this car service for a year and a half and I have now had 3 bad experiences with them. The first time I overlooked it even though it caused problems for me but the past two times have been pretty bad. Once they kept saying the car was on the way - 5mins, be there right away. 1/2 and hour later they arrived. But my experience today was the last straw. I was told a car would be there in 13mins. After 20 minutes I called and was told in 5 minutes. After another 2 calls they just stopped answering my calls and they never did arrive. Will never use them again. read more

Omg I wish I could give them meno ses cientos estrellas because the dispatchers are the most horrible creatures on earth... especially the female one. (Not that the idiot male that calls me sweetheart no matter how many times I ask him not to is a dream either). Thank you green cabs for releasing me from the hell that is Arecibo Car Service. The last time I called and got the dreaded female from hell dispatcher, I said that the last 2 times I had ordered calls, no car had ever come and that I couldn't keep ending up late for appts. so this was going to be the last time I was going to be calling if the car didn't actually get to me. Her response was not, Gee, I'm sorry we let you down and we don't want to lose you as a customer, it was Are you threatening me? So my response was, no, I'm not threatening you, I'm telling you, ADIOS. I hung up, walked outside and caught a trusty green cab. I feel for the Arecibo drivers. Some of them are great and have told me that since the green cabs have hit the street their business is down 30%. I hope Arecibo goes under and the decent Arecibo drivers can afford to become green cabs or sign on with other services that give a crap about their customers... which isn't UBER... since there is no customer service at all... can't find a human being to talk to.. but that's another story. Might try Halo if I need to call a car or cab to my door. But Adios Arecibo. After 20 years of putting up with you for being totally horrendous, saying 5 mins and then when the car doesn't show up within 20 mins, slamming down the phone without checking if the car is actually even on it's way after screaming it will be there in 2 mins., and 10 mins later saying oh, no one ever took that call, 5 mins and slamming down the phone again, you ain't the only option in town. HOORAY. Also, as an aside... another nice thing about green cabs is that they don't seem to need to hang those stinky tree shaped car perfume things all over their cars... which some Arecibo cars do. I hate those smelly things. One driver told me that it's because their customers smell bad. Only in NYC. read more

So terrible. Based upon the reviews here I booked a car for my holiday trip home. I called two days in advance to ensure a car. I asked the price, asked if they needed the cross streets and was told I was all set. The man on the phone repeated the time and the address which I confirmed. I ensured that they also had my phone number. I thought nothing of the wiser. I was ready to go on time and didn't see a car outside. I waited about 10 minutes and called arecibo. The person said that a car would be there within four minutes. I waited another 10 minutes and called again. A woman answered and said that someone had put the address down as 180, not 80 where I lived. I made the point that no one called me to ask if I needed the car still originally, and I had already called to complain, and regiven the address and confirmed that it was 80. After 35 minutes a different taxi cab slowed up by my apartment and I wasn't about to wait for arecibo to not show up again. Thankfully I made my flight thanks to Express 11. Perhaps if Arecibo invested in more customer service the problem wouldn't have happened. It was very annoying to talk to a different person not just every time I called, but every time I was put on and taken back off of hold. This is a car service, not a mega-million dollar corporation. The worst was that they had no idea who had talked to who. Needless to say i will not be using them in the future. read more

i have used arecibo to go to the airport for years, and often the service was good. i was happy with it. my last experience was really bad, and i feel i should share it with you riders. it was an airport run that was called in hours in advance, but after multiple calls to the dispatcher, it arrived 30 minutes late making a very, very close call catching my plane. the driver shared with me the problem: dispatchers chose to delegate an airport run to their friends, not to drivers who are not their friends. this driver had been waiting the entire time 2 blocks away from me! he suggested i call the company. i was not allowed to speak to the manager or the owner by the dispatcher. they put me on speaker and laughed at the story and hung up. if you need to be on time somewhere do not call arecibo. read more

With very few options for reliable car service in Park Slope, I have used Arecibo on a regular basis. Not always the best experience but never a disaster until last weekend. My driver arrived 15 minutes late to take me to LGA and drove 40 miles an hour on the BQE despite me being dangerously close to missing my flight all together. I told him I was on Delta prior to our arrival at LGA. When we approcahed the Delta Terminal he continued to drive past it, insisting that Delta was in a different terminal. He proceeded to take me to the Delta Shuttle Terminal which was outside the main terminal areas by longterm parking!!! I was late in reaching my flight and forced to pay a change fee. When I called the supervisor later to complain and request a refund. She said "we talked to the driver and he had a different version of the events. My supervisor will not give a refund." As somone said before these guys are a joke. Thank god the green cabs are coming to Brooklyn. Hope they puit these clowns out of business. read more

I've been a user of Arecibo for the past 3 years, despite the CONSTANT busy signal I always like their cars. Arecibo has always been my first choice, over Eastern, who I'll be using from now on. I made a reservation using the website and did not receive an email confirmation. I called, because the pickup was in NJ so not just a phone call and 5 minute wait time. I was told that my reservation was in the system and that the price would be $78 + tolls. The pickup was for 10:30pm at the Prudential Center in Newark. At 10:38pm I called being that I had not received a phone call or an email with the driver information. I was told they could not find my reservation and there was not a car waiting for me. They said they could send a car for me but it would be 45 minutes. Which is exactly why I made the reservation IN ADVANCE. Luckily I was in a city where there was NJ Transit and I was not stranded, but I will not be using Arecibo ever again and will recommend the same to my friends. read more

One year ago, I had my final experience with their rude and obnoxious dispatchers. I called to speak to the manager the next day and was told to call back. I tried calling 3 times and they refused to put me on with a manager. The next day, I downloaded the Uber app, and I never had to use them again I resisted doing that for a long time, but these guys forced the issue and it changed my life. So I guess I owe them that. From all the sub par car services in the area, we decided to use Arecibo because they seemed somewhat more reliable in our limited experience. They would routinely screw up, forgetting to bring a car-seat, showing up 10 minutes late, things like that, but they were best option in the area. That day a year ago, however, our experience was so bad that it soured me on them forever and I decided I couldn't use them any longer. The story is long and I'll be happy to relay if anyone is interested, but the short of it is, they left me and my family stranded and were incredibly rude about it. The decision was especially difficult because we had just let the lease on our car go, so I was going to be have to rely on car services a lot more often. Again, all's well that ends and I couldn't be happier with Uber, but I would have continued to use them on average of 3 times a week if they hadn't pushed me away. How they get by is beyond me. read more

Jaohana V. and the people at this cars service are unprofessional. Yes, their driver stole my phone. He pocket -called by friend and we have him talking about the phone into the phone on her voicemail about how he acquired the phone They gave me the runaround, lied and stole. Although I know the phone is now theirs, I filed a police report and they will be served. And I am more than happy to appear in court with the voicemail and the fact that they gave me 3 different cab numbers as the cab that picked me up. This is about principle at this point. Yes, I left the phone in the car. I realized that 1 minute or less after I got out the car at 8pm. I called the dispatcher said the driver had the phone and would be right back, come outside, 2 minutes. He never came back, the car service kept me on hold when I called back, (I'm on the waitresses cell mind you) and they never came and lied about the car number that picked me up. When that car came to me to prove that he wasn't the car that picked me up and never got the call. He said 'please ma'am call 311. They do this all the time.' I could go on about the antics they took me through. I am sad that I can never use them again. They are a true disappointment. read more

My family was traveling to Jamaica and we were looking for a car service that offers cars with car seats for children as my children are 3 and 6 months. I googled it and Arecibo Car Service came up. I called to arrange a car for 4 adults and 2 children with a car seat for a toddler and an infant. They told me don't worry and gave me a set price. At the same time I also set up a pick up from the airport as well. Right before we were supposed to fly out of New York for Jamaica we had a snow storm but I was assured by Arecibo not to worry out car will be there. I had set up for a 6am pick on the day of our flight. At 6am I got a call from Arecibo that our car was outside and at the same time a text as well. The car that came was the exactly what I had requested. We made it to JFK with no problem. The driver was excellent. I was told when I come back to call the car service and they will have a car ready for us. Instead of me calling, the driver called me 5 times while on was JFK going to through customs to let me know he is outside and just to call him when I outside. Once we got outside I called the driver and he was there within seconds. Once again they had send a car just like I requested with 2 car seats just like I needed. I highly recommend Arecibo Car Service. They are on time and they listen to your needs. Thank you Arecibo for making my vacation very easy. read more

I would rate Arecibo one star, but over the summer I had two great experiences with them. Just not in the morning. Twice I've had the following experience: If you can get through after about five minutes on hold, they take your address and hang up. Both times I was told the wait would be ten minutes. Both times, after fifteen minutes I called back, was put on hold for at least ten minutes, and was told a car was almost there. Both times I waited over an hour for a cab. When I called back a third time to let them know the car still hasn't arrived, I asked not to be put on hold but to speak to a dispatcher, I was put on hold without being able to finish my request. I wouldn't even mind the wait if I wasn't hang up on repeatedly and consistently told the car was nearby. It's cold in December and January when I had the experiences. Just tell me the car is 20 minutes away, or lost, and I'll wait inside the building. read more
