In a word: rude. In several other words: I was just on the phone trying to make a reservation but it was apparently too much that I asked one question because I was put on hold. You have a customer service problem. Fix it. read more

When the snow started falling this morning, I decided to call a car service instead of taking the subway to Penn Station. I called these guys on the recommendation of my friend who lives in Park Slope. Driver was on time - to the minute - helped with my suitcase, and is driving carefully. Works for me! read more

$115 from Park Slope to Newark Airport? No thanks. We'll do Uber from now on. At least she showed up on time.

This was my go-to car service when I lived in Fort Greene and I still rely on Arecibo for rides to JFK when I visit NY and stay with friends in Park Slope or Prospect Heights. I've never had a problem with their service, have pretty much always had really friendly drivers, etc. One time my sister was riding with Arecibo to JFK and the car got a flat tire--Arecibo sent another car to pick her up right away and she was hardly delayed. read more

I asked for a van to carry totes from my storage unit to my apartment 5 minutes away. The driver arrived prompt & friendly. However the van had stuff in it and we had to squeeze for space. We made it work and driver helped me a lot! I just wish there was better communication when customers request something specific! read more

Nothing outstanding about these guys except that they show up. What they have done to tick me off is to say they take credit cards, but then they give you the run around when trying to use one. Because I'm traveling for work, I don't want to choke up my own cash. And when traveling to the airport, it's likely that a person *might* be going for business. The last time I was in the car, I was put off by the "let me tell you about Islam" flyers in the back. not that i'm put off by Islam, but it just doesn't seem like a car service is the place for proselytizing. read more

Always on time - so on time, that the second you say where you're going they're already saying "Be there in 10 minutes". Its usually less. Sometimes you do have to wait on hold for a minute, because the lines are swamped. But, the actual service is amazing, and the drivers are great. Never had one issue with them, even when schlepping a bunch of stuff around town, and making a couple stops. read more

I called Arecibo because I'd purchased a desk from a thrift store in Brooklyn with no way to get it home. The last minute moving vans were unavailable. I told the dispatcher the situation. He promptly sent a minivan with enough room for the desk. The driver actually helped me get the desk into the car and then to my front door. For a very fair price. The best service I've ever had. I'm kind of in shock right now. read more

While I have read the negative reviews, Arecibo was not only prompt, but early for my flight out of JFK. I'd highly recommend them.

One word for you, Arecibo, after years of you showing up late or not at all. UBER. read more

I placed a reservation online and received a confirmation email that my reservation was received and the car would be there on time. It wasn't. I had to call (twice) and the second time I called I was told I shouldn't have booked online - using their website, and their reservation system - because it doesn't always work. The car ended up arriving about 25 minutes after my initial reservation request. The price is fine but Uber or other car services might be more reliable. read more

Thought I would try this car service instead of Uber. Made a reservation 6 hours prior to my pickup time. Received an email for my driver saying he "would be on time", which I'm glad he cleared up for me. Waited outside for 10 minutes past my pickup time. Didn't have a number for my driver so went ahead and ordered an Uber. It's now 30 minutes past my original pickup time and I've still not heard anything from my driver. Checked my provided date, time, address, and phone number for errors, but all are correct. Waste of my time. Back to the car sharing startups. read more

Excellent experience. picked me up within 5 minutes of the call, the driver even helped me move a tv i needed to take to work with me. I love these dudes! reasonable price too! read more

Arecibo is okay. They always say 5 minutes, even if it is on the closer to 10 side. The driver I had today was very rude and scolded me for not informing him the street I was headed to was one way, even though I did. Not nice service! I'll be using another service from now on. read more

I arrived for a visit in Brooklyn on a Monday evening and used this car company Monday evening and Tuesday evening. The first time, the car showed up to my hotel immediately, with zero problems. The second time, I called ahead and although I arrived downstairs to meet the car at exactly the time I'd reserved, they ended up taking someone else without verifying the destination (I saw them driving off as I was walking out the door). Whatever. It happens. I called again and they sent another car. I called Wednesday morning for another pick-up and they informed me that no such address existed in Brooklyn, only in Manhattan . . . even after I explicitly told them I was staying on the edge of Park Slope and Gowanus. Um? I told the dispatcher they'd already picked me up at this address twice (the last time in less than 24 hours, in fact) and he still insisted that my hotel address did not exist. My hotel is literally less than half a mile from their office. When I said I'd call another car company since they didn't seem to know the area, they said fine and hung up. I wouldn't suggest using this service. It seems very hit or miss, but I think the most egregious error is telling a potential customer an address doesn't exist when they are telling you the cross streets and hotel name, as well as the fact that you'd just served them the night before. I know Brooklyn is huge and there are duplicate addresses in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but this was wildly unprofessional and ridiculous. Luckily, another car service was happy to pick me up and take the business they lost. read more

I made reservation last night for car service this afternoon. I had to get to work even with MTA shut down after the storm. I even got confirmation. Car Never showed up at the time I scheduled. I called and called but no answer. I get that this must have been extremely busy as many Brooklynites needed transportation. But Arecibo operates business at the most unprofessional I have dealt with. Btw, this is the second time I been stood up by them. And that time there was no super storm to excuse their crappy services. read more

On several occasions, I've called, they've said, "Okay, 5 minutes," and then nobody shows up. When I call back, they put me on hold for 10 minutes and don't answer the call. I used to depend on them, but now I'll never use Arecibo again. Use Family Car Service instead. Family Car Service has never let me down. read more

Driver arrived in perfect time! Extremely friendly and upfront about cost. Would definitely use them again!

I am literally sitting in an Arecibo car right now. Not only did it take them forever to pick me up, but when they arrived they just sat in there car and did not offer to help me load the tons of groceries I had. I had to yell for him to pop the trunk and when he finally came out of the car he was sucking his teeth. I live in a very know area off a very known street and he literally went the opposite direction of my home. I will say I am giving Arecibo 2 stars instead of zero because if you need an early morning pick up to the airport...they are champs at being on time and helpful. read more

The first time I called this car service, they were 10 minutes late. The second time, they were 30 minutes late and put me on hold for 15 minutes while I was calling about the status of the car. Never again. read more

I was supposed to be taken to 1 MetroTech Center, which is across from the Marriott. Instead, my driver circled around for 10 minutes, acting like he was lost, then dropped me off in some random location in MetroTech. I was already late to an event for work, and I knew I was in the wrong spot, but my driver insisted that the location was 1 MetroTech. I ended up having to walk around to ask for directions to the right building. And when I called to complain, the company said it was MY fault for not calling while I was in the cab--um, I was trying to get to work! I'd give this company zero stars if I could. Do not use them under any circumstances. read more

I was a loyal Arecibo user until recently. First, several drivers would say they didn't accept credit cards which was very odd considering the base would say all drivers do. Stressful. Second, I was constantly charged a different rate. Third, some of the cars were filthy. The last straw was when I was told 5 minutes and the car NEVER arrived & I was then told, after being put on hold for nearly 10 minutes, that they had no drivers available. Honestly I'd rather call lyft or uber because the rudeness and lack of professional service is ridiculous. You are not doing a customer a favor by driving them to their destination. It's a service which customers pay for. read more

Sweet I called at 7am yesterday for a ride to LaGuardia, they said 5 minutes but were there in 1 and offered to stop and let me pick up coffee or whatever and I got to the airport in short order. I was in Park Slope, Brooklyn Rich Huffman read more

I have been an Arecibo customer for many, many years. They are the only car service I use at this point, and the only one I trust with my children without me, (ages 12 and 16). They are like a small town cab company with big city service and availability. They are punctual, professional.... I can not say enough about them. read more

Terrible costumer service, they kept hanging up on me because I was asking questions about quotes and car sizes. I ended up not using the service because they were just so rude read more

Stick to the regular apps, they send me a senior citizen driver that don't accept credit cards, so I have to run around trying to find a ATM in JFK. Pay $10 dollars more will save you a lot of aggravation read more

I had a great experience with my round-trip reservation to the airport, which ended up changing many times due to delays & changes in itinerary. They were totally flexible and on top of it, which helped a lot on stressful travel days. I'd requested an infant car seat, and both cars came equipped. Will definitely use again! read more

We had a great experience with Arecibo. Took a car from Park Slope to Long Island with our 9 month old. Booking was easy and quote was much less than Jupiter. Driver arrived on time and was very courteous and helped us with luggage. Car was clean and comfortable, rear facing car seat was perfectly installed. Highly recommend! read more

"5 min 5min"!!! In the Arecibo world, 5 = 25 and often, never. Know them very well. My list of missed appointments is long thanks to them. Drivers are very nice but the people who are in charge of displaying the cars are really really bad. Worst, they lie. A crew of Pinocchios "your car is downstairs" Oh really? It must be my eyes! My advice : USE ANOTHER CAR SERVICE read more

Great service. Called 20 minutes before i needed them to be at my home and they arrived 10 minutes later. Got to JFK from Brooklyn in no time. Will definitely use again. read more

I have used Aricebo for years and have always touted them to my friends and neighbors. However, lately they have become totally unreliable. Two weeks ago, on a Saturday evening, after getting their usual "okay - 5 minutes" answer, I waited 55 minutes for a car that never showed up...in spite of repeated phone calls to the office all of which met with "he's on his way - just another couple of minutes". Then last week, after again getting the "okay - 5 minutes", I waited 20 minutes before calling back to find out that "he was on his way - any second now". I don't know if they are going through some sort of internal office issues but, after using them so often over several years that I know the drivers by names and whose child plays what sport, I cannot imagine how the service got so bad. read more

If less than one star were possible, they would have earned it. I've used the car service many times from near Atlantic Ave subway stop, and they have arrived in 5-10 minutes. I have tried, on two occasions to order a car from Chinatown, Brooklyn. The first time, I was told it would be about 10 minutes, and after 45 minutes, and several more phone calls, excuses and no apologies, a car did arrive. Today, 4/20/2013, on this most recent occasion, I was again told it would be 10 minutes. 20 minutes later I called, and was put on hold. After 5 minutes on hold I was told it would be 3 minutes. After 10 minutes I called again. Still no car, still no apology. The phone was answered and the person said that he would try and find out about the car. After 5 minutes on hold another person picked up, as I started to say that I had been waiting 35 minutes, and been on the phone for 5 minutes the person hung up on me. Here I called a different car service, Express11, and ordered a car. I called Arecibo again, and it rang for a moment and was picked up by the phone service--where I was holding for 7 more minutes before my Express11 car arrived. I hung up. My wife also tried calling, and was holding for 5 minutes before our new car arrived. We did not get our car. We did not get any explanation or apology. We did not get any effort by Arecibo. Arecibo will not be getting our service again. Period. read more

I have loved and hate Arcibo. The drivers and the cars are usually clean and pleasant, much better than the average taxi. However, the dispatchers are abrupt, don't take time to get all the information about how to identify the person they are picking up. Today I called for a car and was told the usual "5 minutes." No car in 15 minutes. I call to check and was told the would send another car. It didn't show either. I called back to complain and was told that the driver picked up the wrong person which was impossible as there were few other people around and we would have seen them. I really resent the lie to cover up the bad service. Our family has also use Arecibo and have had similar experiences. We are all looking for a more reliable service. The positives are out weighed by being stood up numerous times. We missed our meeting today as it was too late to bother after being stood up. Being lied to just added insult to injury. I am just glad my situation was not as critical as the bridal party that was stood up even with a reservation made days ahead! Their review was scathing. Arecibo needs to get their act together and provide more polite, accurate and careful dispatchers. read more

What is wrong with this place. Always a long wait on the phone, they say car will come in 5 minutes. Often I wait and wait and have to call 2-3 times to ask if the car is really coming. At least 5 times I have been waiting for a car that just never shows up. The dispatchers are rude, put you on hold and then never comes back to you. I have many times called in and asked to talk to a supervisor but somehow he/she is never there. I stopped using them, use UBER instead! read more

I used to love them. I have a well behaved 60 lb dog who does not do well in the heat. He will sometimes lay down and refuse to walk on a hot summer day. Several times I called and they came and took us home. I always tell them I have a dog with me and they say "no problem." Last time the driver showed up, saw the dog and refused to pick me up. I told him to call the dispatcher. Dispatcher says I didn't tell him about the dog. Liar. read more

I must have used them at least a dozen times. Of these six times, they were on time, three times they were late by half an hour and three times they didn't turn up at all.I called them to take me to JFK and they never turned up. Uber saved the day for me. Also, there have been times, when you simply can't get through to them. You just hear a recorded message endlessly. I suspect this is when they don't have a car available aat five minutes notice and they don't want to admit that. Overall, quite unreliable. However, if you are not in a hurry, you could try using them. When the service works it is good value for money. read more

I'm done giving them second chances. They have stood me up at JFK (I felt I couldn't just jump in a cab after calling them, so I waited and waited and waited and waited - stupid). They consistently come late. I called the other day and they said their customary "five minutes", only come to come 25 minutes later. Fortunately, the second car company I called was a good sport when I let them know Arecibo had finally arrived. My girlfriend was sweating that ride, cutting it close to catch a flight. They used to be great. Now they are not, and I'm going to find another car company to give my loyalty to. read more

This is the last time I use this outfit. Drivers are usually very good. Dispatchers must sit around laughing about not sending drivers on time. This has been a 40 minute wait. I will use anyone else from now on. If I heard "5 minutes" one more time I would have been frozen to a lamp post. I guess i will enter into the world of Uber. ADIOS Arecibo! read more

The worst and I'm never calling again, just deleted them form my phone. Car didn't show up for 40 mins, the driver said he was two blocks away but couldn't find my block and said the street was closed (not true), and I'm like, how am i going to trust this person to drive me to the airport when they can't find my block for 40 mins. Also something about their dispatcher tactics: I called several times to check, and the dispatcher would put me on hold for 30 secs and then say, "it's coming in 2 mins, ma'am"-- but after he finally had to REALLY check, it was clear that they had not been checking before, just bulshitting/bluffing. Ps this has happened enough times now, not just once. read more
