My go-to for car services in the area. They're only about 5-10 minutes away whenever you need a car, and I've always only had friendly drivers in clean cars. The prices are reasonable (though I've always been confused because pricing isn't very clear up front when you make the reservation or get into the car or even on their website... but you don't have to ever feel like you're being ripped off). They also take credit card and you can reserve online - but make sure to double check that your car will bring a machine along -- not all drivers do and they like to know in advance if you're not going to be paying cash! read more

I want to like them because they're polite, cars are clean, and they are punctual. However in 2 days they've charged me different rates for the same routes. 1 car tells me my small dog costs more. Another driver tells me that's not true as there's no extra charges for a dog and their rates are fixed, and then another driver charges me more and claims the dog as well. All 3 of the drivers checked with the dispatchers too. I called to ask why, and that didn't clear it up because even then she guessed an approximate rate. Until they give me a better explanation, I'm giving them 2 stars. read more

Giving them one less star for being inconsistent. I've used them for airport transport to JFK, and even pre-booked online, and they were there right on time and got me to the airport in no time. Then other times, I've called them on a Friday evening and I get a no show. Tried to call back and no one picks up. read more

Well we were impressed with this car service. We had 2 successful airport trips with them, they picked us up right on time outside our building. This morning by BF had a flight from LGA and I booked them the night before. However, they never showed up at the agreed time. We tried to call for 20 minutes and the line was busy.. Whatever, we called Eastern Car Service and they saved the day arrived in 5 minutes and charged him 5 dollars less. read more

This is my go to car service for BK. Had some missed cars, had some misunderstandings (English is not always reliable) but always got things worked out. Always got me to where I was going. read more

Great cars at a reasonable price. Just don't expect them to be even moderately concerned with customer service - especially on the phone. Snarky and swift. read more

These guys are great. You call and give them your address. The guys says 5 minutes. The car appears in less time than that. If you call enough they recognize you on caller id. Very friendly drivers and cheaper than taxis. read more

Arecibo has always been the fastest in this area of Brooklyn. I've used them for almost 8 years now, and on a very rare occasion they are running late. It's maybe happened only once or twice. Now that's a good track record! My friends who live in the area all have them on speed dial now too! read more

THey have consistently bailed me out when others have failed reservations. THey happily provide car seats. And have helped with groceries. always 5 minutes away and courteous. read more

used to rely on them exclusively but i've been realizing they aren't the best. they do always say 5 minutes and it almost never is 5 minutes (more like 10 - 15). the other night when it was freezing cold i had to call them 3 times and wait a total of 45 minutes - this after the customary 5 minutes was told to me each time i called. another edit, i now refuse to use them. bad service! i'm not sure if they have new management or not but the drivers are constantly late and take wrong turns or dont know know where anything is. read more

Terrible service. I took a car service with them weeks ago and there system was suppose to sms me a receipt. I have called and emailed multiple times and no service. I'm sure you could use this company 9 times out of 10 and it would be fine, but if you are the 10th person it could get annoying. read more

I don't know why there are so many one star reviews. We've used Arecibo multiple times to get to the airport for early flights. They are always on time and this morning they even called me at 5:22 to let me know my car would be there at 5:30. Clean cars. Nice drivers. Use them! read more

Always on time! Need I say more?! Clean cars too. I would never use any other car service in the Brooklyn Heights / Carroll Gardens area!

Terrible, used to be awesome a few years back. Now you just call and it will ring and ring, or it will be busy, or you will be put on hold for half an hour. Drivers are nice though. read more

Arecibo Car Service was very reliable and very reasonable (better than Lyft Shared) to get to LaGuardia. A cousin had recommended it, as she has used the service many times to get to both airports. Not only were they right on time, but the driver waited for me because I hadn't seen their text telling me they were outside, and he was very pleasant all the way to the airport - including bad traffic. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more

Very good car service. They always come within 5 or 10 minutes and very reliable. I use them multiple times a week for the last 2 years and was only disappointed once (late pickup). For the most part, clean, new cars and very nice drivers. read more

We use Arecibo on a regular basis, mostly to go to the airport or for guests who go back to Manhattan - I would say we call them more or less once a month. 1- Dispatchers: 0 star They are extremely rude. They never listen to what you say and hang up before you can ask something. 50% of the time we have to call them back because the car is not there and the car is somewhere else because they don't take the extra 30sec to correctly listen to the address. This is very sad, because it is basically their job. 2- Drivers: 70% 3 stars, 30% 0 star In most cases, drivers are nice and their car is usually clean and in descent shape. So nothing to complain about and actually quite happy with them. In the other cases, it was a nightmare. We took a car for the airport. On the way there, another car called the attention of our driver - flat tire. The driver stopped to check and decided to stop at a garage to replace it (safety first, thanks God!). Unfortunately, while we had to wait 20min for the tire to be replaced, the driver didn't want to call another car and more or less told me he knew that the tire was going flat!! Another example, we called Arecibo for a friend to go back to Roosevelt Island - he didn't know the way to go there and my friend had to call us and basically give direction to the driver on the phone while I was on Google Maps. I'm not talking about a specific on the Roosevelt Island, I'm talking just going on the island ... So anyway, if you're lucky, you'll get a nice driver with a good car, if not, then good luck!! read more

Waited two and a half hours for a taxi. 8 phone calls. We were in midtown manhattan, with an exact address. Unacceptable service.

Used to be good-but recently called their office to book a car and the staff on call was beyond rude, started yelling over the phone until I told him to calm down. Cut me off mid sentence when explaining we needed a car the next morning to say to call ten minutes before we needed to leave. Just gave up and used Legends Limousine instead- better service and comparable (better) prices. read more

Made a reservation for an early AM trip to Newark a day in advance. Car didn't arrive on time but the driver called to say he'd pick me up in ten minutes. Never showed. Arecibo would not answer my calls. Bad beginning to a long day trip to Asia. Will never use them again. read more

Until today this was my favorite car service in the area. They are always in time, they are reasonably priced, they have clean and new vehicles, they are very nice. I always reserve my car and there is a super nice lady on the other side of the phone. Today I called to make a reservation and this rude and obnoxious man refused to take my reservation. I calmly tried to explain that I have been doing this practically for two months now and the reason why i reserve a car is because of my medical condition. He said no and hanged up on me. Classless and unprofessional! Arecibo should stick to the nice lady, this guy should NEVER be allowed to interact with customers again! read more

I have used Arecebo many times over the past year. Generally, i have liked the service. They have extremely competitive rates and the drivers have been fairly friendly. However, the cars are completely inconsistent. Sometimes you will get a very nice tonwcar, but often it seems like personal auctioned cars that are not inspected and very often unclean. I was willing to put up with this for the pricing. However, our last trip to JFK was the end of Arecebo (and the reason for 1 star rating). The driver misquoted the price and drove significantly crazier than the average NYC cab driver (which is definitely saying something!). We had many near accidents, it felt like the horn never let off, and the car was absolutely filthy. Furthermore, and this is often the case in Arecebo cabs, the driver's radio was blasting service requests from the call center and static the whole way. I know it is something of a discount, but the screeching subway is superior to the awful sounds that emit from those car radios. From now on I will take a cab or pay the extra money and go with a more legitimate, regulated car service, and I recommend that others who have not used the service in the past do the same. read more

I WILL NEVER EVER USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN. not only did our driver show up late making us late for our appointment (and I'm talking 20 min late) she took us to the wrong location and then tried to blame it on me even thoiiugh I repeated the location to her 3x which she confirmed that she knew the location of. She was completely rude the entire ride coming back with smart remarks EVERY time I said I said something. Spare yourself from being late and treated like crap read more

Called for a car gave them the addresses and the guy said "5 minutes" and hung up on me. I wanted to ask what the price was. But didn't get a chance. So I called back and canceled the car and called another car service. read more

Always 5 minutes hahaha. Rates are not always consistant as people may think try taking the car some were thats not in walking disitance from your house!!! lol They are very reliable i would recommend them to anyone. read more

I booked yesterday online for an early morning ride that I needed today to catch a bus. (After booking online I called to confirm as well). They never showed. They didn't answer their phone this morning when I called trying to figure out where they were and if they were coming. I called twice--no answer either time. I called another car service (Legend) and they came as quickly as they could but it was too late and I missed my bus. I'm so angry and disappointed. I think they're about 5 dollars cheaper than Legend ($30 vs $35 to take me from Park Slope to Forrest Hills) and maybe that's a good enough reason to use them if you sort of want a ride right now and aren't trying to plan in advance to catch a bus or train. But I wish I'd never heard of them and had booked with a better company. read more

I have used Arecibo a number of times, but tonight I will never forget what my driver said. "Do you want me to wait until you get inside to leave?" I was so surprised, I almost didn't say, "Yes, thank you so much." They are always my go-to car service, and are about as reliable as most car services, but that little bit of considerate customer service is why I still use them. read more

I can't stand Arecibo but there's no one else in the neighborhood that I know of. Every time I call I feel like Jerry Seinfeld and the Soup Nazi. Heaven forbid you say something wrong and they'll just hang up on you and you're forced to be put back on hold again... or, how about coming from the airport with your wife and 2 year old. It's freezing out, the dispatcher says, the car will be there in 5 minutes but it really takes 25 minutes and then they don't have a car seat. I can't stand Arecibo. Wish there was an alternative. read more

I left a bad review based on a bad experience I'd had with the service, but they responded positively and I have had good experiences with them in the past, so I decided to come back and do a more comprehensive review based on my entire experience with them rather than one bad experience. The drivers I've had have been friendly and professional, but the call service is not always available and even when it is, the person on the other end of the line can seem indifferent rather than friendly and happy to assist All in all, they're affordable and reliable from most of my experience with them. read more

Do not use. Car was ten minutes late picking me up and took a 40 minute route to the airport (which has never taken me more than 25 minutes even with traffic.) Missed my flight and wasted way too much money. Also the dispatcher and manager refused to be helpful, and kept telling there's traffic on a weekday. (At noon, not at rush hour.) Fine, there's traffic, but it has nothing to do with being picked up late. read more

Avoid this place if you can. They don't know how to generate receipts. They charged me for a tip twice (that's a 40% tip). When I asked them for a line-by-line receipt, they said they didn't know how to do that. I reiterated the quote they gave me over the phone and said they wouldn't mind refunding the tip BUT there was only one problem - they didn't know how to do a refund. So they tried to do the refund, but instead charged me for the whole trip twice. They are still scrambling trying to figure out how on earth to refund all their ridiculous charges. read more

This happened a while back... I RESERVED a cab the day before for a doctors appointment. The cab was 20 mins late and had to pay a fee for missing my appointment. I live in the area and I try to give back to my community, but these guys failed me tremendously! And the cab driver didn't even say sorry! After I told him my situation and I told him I didn't need his services anymore, he drove off without saying a word and I didn't even close the door yet! Wow... read more

My dad is visiting in three weeks and likes to be organised so he went online and filled out a reservation form for an airport pickup. After a while he hadn't received a confirmation so asked me to call to confirm. After being put on hold for ages and then having to repeat myself about 5 times the guy finally snaps "we only take reservations within a week so of course we don't have it" Really? So why have I just been able to select 5th April on your online booking form. Bunch of clowns. read more

I took this car service because they provide car seats. Our driver picked us up on time at 7pm for an 11pm international flight to Newark. He took us into a two hour traffic jam in soho and only after sitting in the jam for 2 hours did he come up with an other option to get us to Newark. We got to the airport at 10:05 and were not permitted to check into the flight. We missed our international flight. Had the driver used his brain earlier and not relied only on waze he would of been able to come up with another route to get to the airport. I have asked for a refund for the ride which was hell. Not to mention we should have been picked up in a van, they sent a Honda CR-V. I was forced to sit between two car seats smooshed for three hours. I would like my 110 dollars back, but I highly doubt I'll get it. Unprofessional company. read more

Every time I call I am told 5 minutes and every time they show up 20 minutes later. I call to see where they are and they say 1 minute. I prefer honesty/accuracy over dishonesty. I also never have consistent rates. They make them up as they go. Major scam and I hope to never use them again. Not sure what happened to them, I remember them being better. read more

You are getting two stars because in the past you used to be reliable and consistent. But that seems to be ending. I will say my driver this week was wonderful and didn't mind a not so long trip to queens from Brooklyn. However, I can't rate my second driver because I never met him! When I call and you say it'll take ten minutes, and over thirty minutes later there is still no car....even after I called back and you tell me that the car is just a few minutes away...Not cool! It's cold out, it's dark, I'm a girl and small and I don't exactly strike fear in the hearts of others. You could've just said you didn't have a car available. I would've called another service for tonight (which I eventually did), either way you weren't making this fare. Now you lost that money, this customer and earned a bad review to boot. That's on you Arecibo. I was more than patient with you. read more

Maaan, these guys are legit, however in the spirit of full disclosure I only use them to get back and forth from LGA when I fly out for work. $33 flat rate to ride home in a navigator! As a comparison, yellow cabs charge $50-58 for this trip to prospect heights. (disclaimer) there fleet doesn't consist of just navigators- lucked up this trip read more

Wow!!! Horrible service!! The cabbie didn't know how to get to my location on sacckett street in park slope!!the car service is in park slope!! Wtf!! Finally after waiting 15 minutes in the cold he showed up by the corner... Then he started hitting on me he was gross...ok best part is he almost crashed head on to another car who I guess was also a bad cab driver!! The ride was 12 bucks and he said in his broken English " you want I keep two dollar tip" I almost said go f!?k yourself is the tip!!! Never again rather walk to my destination! Do not take this cab!! read more
