Horible place. Really rude managment…read moreThey have ruined the place since they have removed the plunge pool, the steam room is small and has metal seats. What moron thought metal seats would be good in a sauna? Only one that does not use it. The dry sauna is cramped and smells and is rotting. You get 3.5 hrs including changing and they are very strick about that even if its rmpty. The massuse was too stupid as evdn whrn i told her not to put Tiger balm on my skin dhe still did and gave me a terrible rash and itch , again they have ruined what used to be a good Thai massage and sauna established for years and driven the clients away. i can't understand how they survive unless there is something else going on in the back. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy.

I was a decent walk in the morning air to get there and nice total relaxation was on offer when I got there. Nice cup of coffee and a couple slices of toast as soon as I walked in. Booked and paid for a sauna and sometimes a massage as well. It was a unisex place and there were many times good conversations would come along and the night was over in no timewoops..it's 7.30am. I picture of me? Nightclub 'bouncer'. My size and job were often of no consequence and many a laugh was t be had. One night the barman in 'only Fools and Horses' was there with onother of his comedian-isque telly friends. The jokes and funny stories were endless with contributions from everywhere..including the staff. This was the only above suspician sauna in London and I'll bet it still is. I have many memories of this place but now, unfortunately, I live in the North-East. Do not miss the experiance of this place. You will come out feeling like a new woman/man and full of energy for the day in front of you. This no b***s**t. I am happy to be contacted on this if it is possible through this site. Ray

I cannot comment on the hotel itself but the restaurant is a great experience, being the only establishment to hold a Michelin star in Sussex. They offer the full al a carte menu plus a seven course tasting menu which we just couldn't refuse. This included such delights as foie gras, scollops, lamb and lemon tart, an apple and calvados sorbet as a pallet cleanser plus the cheese trolley and coffee with a selection of petite fours if you still have room! They also have a huge wine list and the staff are happy to offer recommendations. Be careful to check the price of these though as a glass of wine suggested to compliment the the foie gras put an extra £10 per head on the bill! The tasting menu is expensive but worth it for a special occasion or if you are just feeling flash! The restaurant is comfortable and unpretentious but I feel the whole experience can be slightly bettered at places such as Gravetye Manor which doesn't have a Michelin star.

Ockenden Manor - you are lucky you are getting 2*! This review is for the spa & the restaurant…read morecombined however not the hotel or rooms themselves as we didn't stay the night. My mum and I booked the sunrise spa morning package for my birthday treat a month before my birthday and were SO excited. The package includes a breakfast smoothie on arrival, full use of the spa facilities (sauna, outdoor hot tub, jacuzzi, steam room, pool etc), a 55 minute treatment (choice of 4 - pedicure, manicure, full body massage or facial) and 2 courses at their Michelin starred hotel restaurant - SOUNDS AMAZING! We arrived a few minutes after 9 (stupid traffic) and were greeted at reception, shown to some comfy sofas and asked to fill out a 2 sided sheet with personal details, health, what we were looking for from today etc. At the same time we were given the smoothie menu and told to pop back to order once we had finished filling in the forms - no problem. I went back to the reception desk however the lady who had greeted us was helping someone else so I spoke to a different lady. She took the forms but asked me to sit back down as the other lady deals with smoothies and would take our order... errr OK. So we waited 10 minutes but this lady was seriously busy. By this time it was nearly half 9 so we had missed 30 minutes in the pool and kids are allowed in the pool for an hour at 10am (NOT RELAXING). We got the attention of one of the members of staff and said we had been waiting a while and hadn't even ordered our smoothies and were rudely replied with "well it is busy and that's just how things happen". Mum got a bit pissed off at this point and pointed out how we had been treated so the lady took our smoothie order and showed us in to the changing rooms so we could change but said we would have to come back out of the spa in to reception to get our smoothies *sigh* AND the smoothies although refreshing were nothing special. By the time we got in the pool we had 10 minutes before the members brought in their young, screaming children. We stuck it out in the jacuzzi for a bit but after much splashing went up to their mezzanine area with loungers, magazines and coffee and tried to block their noise out. Our massages were at 11am so we went to reception 5 minutes before as requested. I can't fault the massage - it was lovely, relaxing, good pressure, lovely smelling oils - however they didn't consider any of the points I had made while filling out my form. After that we were a little more relaxed and went back for a swim before going to get changed for our lunch. When we went to get out (30 minutes before our table was booked for) we realised mum's robe with her locker key had been taken by mistake and immediately told a member of staff. He said he would look in to it and be right back.... all we really needed was a master key. Again we waited 5 minutes but no one returned. In the end I went to get mum a new towel so we could both go to reception and ask for help as we needed to get ready for lunch! The girl on reception had only one key handed in and although we knew it wasn't the right number asked us to try it. Again wasting a few more minutes we trudged back and forth between reception and the changing rooms. This time I asked why couldn't we use a master key so they went to find the reception manager who happened to be the rude lady from earlier. In the end we managed to throw our clothes on and rush over to the restaurant a few minutes late for our table and completely stressed - this was meant to be a stress free day! O and as we left we handed in our locker key & said goodbye & they completely ignored us.... It took us a while to find anyone to take us to the restaurant as no one was at reception and there were no clear signs for the restaurant. We were seated and shown the daily lunch time menu of which we could pick 2 courses. Argh again we had been given wrong info as we were told it could be any dish from the a la carte - one of the major reasons we had chosen this package. I said this to the waiter but he merely replied "no, just from the lunch menu" and walked off! There was nothing I fancied on the starters so we went straight for mains. There was butter on the table so I was looking forward to nibbling some nice warm bread however although every other person had been served bread we weren't offered any. The mains were both nice. Presented beautifully and my caramelised onion tart with root veg really was delicious. The portions however were pretty tiddily so I was still hungry and couldn't wait for dessert. My mum can't eat dairy so she asked for a dairy free one and kudos to them the chef provided a beautifully presented plate with the nicest passionfruit sorbet and caramelised bananas. I had the creme brulee which was served in a little ramekin with chocolate mousse on one side and a whiskey ice cream on the other - DELICIOUS! In all I was impressed by the food but not the service at the spa & restaurant!

I like the steam room, good for my Asthma, I like all the pools, especially the one with the huge fish ready to impale someone (see picture) !! I chat to anyone who will chat back.... I spend three or four sessions in the steam room during the day, topping up my liquids with mango juice or water. I lie flat out in the main pool area and catch up on the news in the dailiies and monthlies available. At 1 pm I go for for lunch, usually the buffet which is superb. Then I have a kip and then after a shower I go back into the steam room for one last time. I go there early morning and leave about 4 pm, feeling good.

That's partially to do with me going a bit nuts, but I always leave feeling rested, much lighter and incredibly happy. You don't get ultra modern neon-lit eternity pools, but a place where normal people (the ones that appreciate the nice environment that's been created there) can totally chill out. With a separate changing area for members and non-members, there's always a lot of space, secure lockers and hot showers on the way in. Once you get inside robes and sandals are encouraged as everything is quite spread out. My highlights include the giant tepidarium, containing 33 ceramic loungers heated to approx. 35 degrees to soothe the entire body. Each lounger has its own head phone socket, so you can bring your headphones and relax to your choice of music. There's also two large pool, a 49 seat spa pool with massage jets, a hydrotherapy flotation tank (with over 1.5 tonnes of salt in!) and an aromatherapy steam room. Additional things to consider are a fantastic cafe-style restaurant, where you can lounge about and eat. They do the best salads I've had anywhere outside of my home (I just like fresh ingredients and knowing what's gone into something). And the beauty salon does an exclusive range of body butters/scrubs/bath foams in ever changing varieties. I fell in love with the raspberry milkshake 'flavour' a few years ago, and I haven't been disappointed since. My last purchase was angel cake bath melt (a thick bubbling foam) and hot butter fudge shower gel. Oh my. There are three basic ways to go. One, buy a special experience pass (from £65 for entrance, a treatment and 'light supper', upwards). Second, a spa membership ranging from £9 a month for 3 visits a year up to £30 a month for 12 visits, all on top of a £99 joining fee. Or, a combined membership with the MASSIVE Pulse 8 gym across the way (literally a one minute from the spa). It's about £500 (sheesh) joining fee, then £80ish pounds for full come-any-time-you-like membership to gym and spa, then gets less as you strip away visiting at certain parts of the day. Just like most gyms and spas really. Either way, we joined at Christmas time a few years ago. It was on a special offer with no joining fee and one visit per month for £15. Bargain! It pops up at the same each year and often during Summer. I'd recommend holding out for that, because it's SO worth it.

I loved my time at this Gym…read more The staff are so friendly and helpful and the facilities are great too! The building itself doesn't much look like it's a gym from the outside (I was living in Rainham for 4 years before I actually knew what it was! I thought it was part of the peoples home next door. Oh dear). It's a lovely old grade 2 listed building, think I was told it was 300 or so years old. But inside is nice and nicely air conditioned throughout. It's not your typical gym where everything is all in one room and you feel like you're being watched by everyone around you. It is over 2 floors and has numerous rooms all with separated equipment so if you're uncomfortable about being seen working out by others it's easy find a quiet room where you can go about your exercise without interruption. Changing rooms are nice and clean with sun showers which you need to book in to use but they're almost alway's available when you want them . The spa, sauna and steam room are also located downstairs which had a refit just before I left this gym (through emigrating, not anything against them) which unfortunately opened the week I left. urrghh. So I didn't get to see it but I heard it is great. The Trainers here are so friendly and as part of membership (if you choose to) you get regular meetings where you'll get weighed, measured and discuss any training concerns you might have which is really helpful if you have specific goals as they're all about helping you reach them. You can also get one on one Personal Training sessions for a small extra charge (I think £25 but are well worth it). A couple of classes are also available to take part in which you need to book in advance. While I was a member it was just Circuit Training and Leg's, Bum's and Tum's but was talk of other's. They also have a qualified beauty team on hand for the usual waxing, facials, manicure, pedicure, massage ect. Excellent for a bit of pampering after a hard workout. I enjoyed this gym so much that with the encouragement of the team I qualified as a Fitness Instructor myself - and took the course with them. Way better than any of the other bigger named gym's in the area.
