I I never visit without buying a piece of jewelry, carving, or silk screen print; so I always make sure I have an allowance. Short of Vancouver, BC, this shop has the best quality and variety I have found. I have always been treated very well, even when my allowance was small. I give Arctic Raven my highest recommendation and I suggest you be sure to visit there on your next visit to San Juan Island. I have a serious concern. They took my payment of over $500 for a piece that I wanted to replace from the fire that took my entire home (Eaton Fire in CA). The last communication from them is that the print was not being printed because of technology issues and that they would get back to me. I requested a refund and I have not heard back from them. I am feeling that they stole this money. read more

This small gallery with helpful staff specializes in contemporary North West Coast Native American art. Their selections are excellent. It's almost like going to a museum to visit the gallery, but you can take something home with you! I would give no stars after the horribly disrespectful way my family was treated today. We were followed upstairs to the second floor and scolded loudly by a staff member. He berated two young children in such a condescending and negative manner for supposedly touching a piece of art. Then proceeded to tell another patron his "perception" of the event. To quote Pretty Woman, "Big Mistake, Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now." Last time I looked for art I didn't get the impression that artists would so willingly turn away a potential customer. read more

First and foremost this gallery has lovely art, in a variety of mediums, and is absolutely worth checking out. However, DO NOT fail to notice the signs indicating that no food or drinks are allowed, as I did (an honest mistake with my covered coffee which I did not spill). If you do, and there are at least three signs, as the proprietor very tactlessly and passive aggressively pointed out to me, you're in for an unpleasant experience to say the least. So unpleasant in fact, you'll be entirely disinclined to browse and peruse as you'd hoped to do, and leave feeling very negative. To the proprietor: I don't know how long you've had your gallery, or if you're from the northwest, but I am, and I suggest you drop the pretense and learn some social skills. read more

I love this gallery. So many beautiful art from the first peoples that it almost feels like your in a museum! I don't have a big budget to spend in art and that is not an issue in this lovely place as there is items to fit any budget. Highly recommended for beautiful native art!! read more

This gallery is our favorite shop in downtown Friday Harbor. It is the first place we go when we arrive on the island. We love their selection of Northwest Native American art at very affordable prices. The owner is very knowledgeable and shares information on all pieces in the gallery. Lots of fun artistic pieces large and small. Also a very tasteful selection of original handcrafted jewelry. read more

After 30 years of longing, I finally splurged on an exquisite cedar bentwood box made by Dennis Allen (over $500). Lee Brooks, gallery owner, suggested I protect the surface with an acrylic spray. I took the box home to Iowa and, I thought, followed instructions. I apparently over-sprayed, and the delicate carved colors were covered with a chalky glaze. I owned my part in the disaster and asked for help. Mr. Brooks sent me a replacement box, but UPS dented the lid. What could I do but ask for help again. After almost a year, I got box #2 with a new, beautiful lid, No charge for anything! This is customer service above and beyond. read more

If you admire coastal northwest art, this gallery is not to be missed! We managed to make a quick visit here minutes before our ferry arrived. (It's a 2 minute walk from the loading lanes.) I came in with some expectations (unattainable, too expensive for a young adult without the means or space to collect art, not a huge collection), but was surprised to find some very affordable carvings, too. I wish I had more time to look--even as someone who's not much into buying art (read: can't afford to), I could easily have spend 30min here. We only had five minutes but found and bought one beautiful cedar wood carving. The woman who helped us was really pleasant (helpful, invested, not at all pushy) and seemed to care about the artists. She made sure to give me an artist bio on the piece and I'm so glad she did that! read more

We were interested in making a purchase but quickly changed our minds after listening to the verbal diarrhea pouring from his mouth when I asked if he also had a gallery in Seattle. This gallery is one of the most spectacular galleries you will find in the northwest. There is a variety of art for your choosing and is a wonderful representation by many artists - many local. I bought two pieces while there for gifts. I would strongly advise to make this gallery a must see start to any visit to Friday harbor or any of the San Juan Islands. read more
