Do NOT buy gas or snacks here! This afternoon while I was filling up my tank, my 90 year old father-in-law needed to use the restroom. He had an accident and spent some time in there cleaning up so that the employees would not have to. They repeatedly pounded on the door and yelled at him and threatened to call the police. Improved since they have taken over in some ways as I do not see the gathering of homeless and people asking me for money or trying to wash my window with filthy rags ! Outside machines are covered up and you have to go inside to pay if the pump does not work . They charge 35 cent convenience fee for using a They only take debit or cash here. Not open 24 hours. They will Kick you out for not wearing a mask, while the younger cashier lady refuses to wear a mask while enforcing mask regulations rules to herself. I don't spend too much time at gas stations, thus I don't spend too much time thinking about them. But unfortunately, they're a necessary evil for those of us who drive. This Arco isn't particularly close to me or even on my commute, but every once in awhile, if I'm passing through downtown and low on gas, I'll go here. Why? Simply put, it's the best price in town. And even though the layout isn't great, it's better than it was before the redesign (however many years ago that was). Gas today is 7cents lower than other nearby stations. Only lower price is Costco. Station is crowded @ 5pm as i write this. Just about impossible to enter or exit. Gridlock. Go down the street 300 yards to the USA station. Almost same price, less traffic snarl. read more

Probably one of the worst gas stations in Santa Rosa California. Between charging you a fee to use a credit card, the filth of their parking lots and gas pumps, and being hit up by panhandlers while you're trying to fuel your automobile it's not a great place to get fuel. Yes, the gas is cheaper than elsewhere in town, but the savings are effectively erased with a $.45 surcharge for using your debit card. Credit card? Not permitted. I grudgingly paid the fee, since I was already at the pump. Also, they've installed a new pump system that requires you to go to a central island to pay with your credit before going back to pump. The new pumps don't have the lock-open lever either, so you have to stand there and hold the pump instead of cleaning the windows during that time, etc. After pumping gas, I went inside to make a purchase. Again, a $.45 fee for debit card, with no credit cards permitted. ARCO is BP, in case anyone wasn't aware of that. They wrecked the Gulf. They have dishonest fees. Mr. ASAD (OWNER) @ Arco 1010 4th st. has instructed his employees to post an out of order sign on the public restroom. I asked 1 of the employees the other day when the restroom will be fixed. He stated, " the bathroom is not broken, the sign is up to keep the homeless away" I went back this morning, the sign still on the door, went into the restroom used it came out and asked for the owner. The owner Mr. Asad was by the register and I asked him why the sign was on the door when the bathroom is operable, he stated it was broken, I told him what his employees told me about not letting homeless people in to use the bathroom, his retort? Doesn't accept credit cards. Fee for using debit card. You have to walk to a pay station away from the pump. You have to hold the lever the whole time to pump gas. And walk back to the pay station to get your receipt. Gas is cheap though -- $2.219 as of 1/21/15. read more

Consistently the cheapest gas in central Santa Rosa. Unfortunately, their location on a busy corner, and strange layout makes getting gas here an adventure. Which can be fun, or not so fun. Like when an old lady backs into you, causes no damage to either vehicle, yet insists on calling the cops. ON HERSELF. Don't try to buy cigarettes here without a California ID. While everyone has their little gripes about this place, its plain and simply the lowest price for gas in santa rosa. I find it pleasantly assuming that while someone said that it is BP (which its unfortunate that the spill happen) ARCO is a subsidy of BP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARCO which is based here in Calif. and pull mostly from domestic oil fields (think localish gas) and since I could remember is only cash and debit which gives you the lower prices. Also. They don't pull their oil out of war torn, middle eastern countries. So to me they are the lesser of both evils... On a separate note. My grandfather went there today to fill up on gas and put $100 down with the cashier. In his older age (81yo), forgot to grab his change which was $35. He was on his way back home to redding before he remembered he forgot the change. He called them and they remembered him and put it aside for me to pick up. Thats honesty. So whether if its the long wait which isnt the gas stations fault, or the fact that they have a sur charge seems moot to me. Ill be coming back for as long as they are here... read more

This particular Arco station usually has the lowest prices in town - almost always in a tie with Costco. We use the Gasbuddy app on our Smartphone to check before stopping in for gas. It's sometimes crowded, but often you can go in and pull right up to a pump. The big minuses are the pump nozzles have the "fillup" levers removed so you have to hold the nozzle while filling. Also, as is true of all Arco stations, They only take cash or debit card (and they charge a fee to use a debit card). I've never had any problem with any of the employees, they seem like reasonably nice folks. I generally put money in their payment Kiosk and only have to go inside to get change if I miscalculate how much gas I needed. I sometimes underfill to get in and out quicker. read more

If I could give a "zero" star to this place I would. I went in to get gas. I put $20 into the automatic payment machine out on the island. It took my money but didn't register it at the pump. I went inside to tell the clerk. The female clerk told me that since it didn't show on her inside register that I had NOT put money in the machine. I told her to check out the video feed and she would see that I had. I was being polite. She told me that I had not put any "puto" money in the machine (look it up in a Spanish/English translator on the internet). That is not a word to use with a customer. Her male counterpart reprimanded her in Spanish but she continued to glare at me. I will never go there again even if I have to pay a little more at a different station. By the way...I did find another station that charges the same prices (as long as you pay with cash) as this place. It is the 76 Station about a block east of the Arco and on the opposite side of the street. The 76 is now my regular service station. And guess what...the 76 is a real service station! if it was possible to give it a 0 stars, i would!! AWFUL!! LIke everyone said there are a lot of drawbacks but they are cheap. I started stopping on my way to work since the RedBulls were on sale and cheaper than i could find anywhere else. 2 of them tasted disgusting and when i looked at the bottom i noticed that they had expired a month ago! i took them back a couple days later and had the worst customer service ever!! the manager said the staff check the expirations constantly so it couldnt be from their store. i pointed to the clerk who helps me every morning and said she sells me redbull in the morning. the manager was like "she cant be expected to remember customers and you couldve bought it somewhere else." I'm not a fan. It's true that their gas prices are consistently lower than elsewhere but that's only if you are willing to pay in cash. There is a $.35 fee on all debit card transactions if you want to pay at the pump and they don't take credit cards at all (annoying to me because I often charge a company card for my gas). Arco is the only gas station I know of that has these anti-plastic policies. If anything, places should charge a fee for people who pay in cash, thereby using employee time. I know that banks charge them something for the card readers but come on, $.35 each?? Inside the store, the beer and cigarettes are way overpriced and the selection of beer is dismal. I have used this station for years, but no more. They have changed their pumps so that you are FORCED to stand there, pump gas and listen to obnoxious advertising that comes from the pump. It is totally unacceptable. read more

I went to fuel up this morning at ARCO on 4th and Brookwood. What a dump this place has become. I had to go to 3 different pumps due to machines/pumps not working. I finally ended up on pump 12. This pump has it's outer face torn off and you can see wires inside that should not be showing. These wires are connected to computer box units. I will never use this pumping station again. I also notice that the hired help is subpar. Not to mention that it is the lowest of homeless hangout, begging for money. read more

my husband went to get gas today paid cash told the cashier my number went to the pump and nothing came out..went back inside to see what the matter was and got nothing but attitude(never had a problem before) so i wanted my money back and was refused so i called the cops...when they came i told them what happened so they went inside to talk to the cashier and he told them something totally different and not true but i got my money back and went to another gas station so wont be going back there dont like the people and so much more of a hassle without the prepay machines that use to be there...wont be coming back here again read more
