Looking at the exterior the buildings that are combined here. The big one says Lost Hills Travel Plaza then Dairy Queen and AmPm Convenience stores on each side of the the plaza. The only place I saw Arco was above the gas pumps. Then behind is a mechanic shop. Upon entering I immediately smelled fresh baked cookies. It looked like they shoved a lot of product into a small area. They had a little of everything. I'm guessing the truckers showers, washers and dryers were upstairs. The stairway was closed on my visit because they were cleaning. I do have have to say the place and even restrooms looked clean, though the paper towels holder want filled nor was the air machine coming on just a roll of paper towels to rip off from. As far as the clerks..the male in the back couldn't answer any of our question about the mechanic shop, just told us we'd have to go ask them...the lady clerk was running two registers at the same time. She told us to come to the side counter then helped the people before us..all we had was one fountain drink and a water..not hard. Sort of weird how this place does not take credit card, but hey, what can you do? It does its purpose, with having snacks and drinks and fuel, but it doesn't really go that much farther with appeal. I am an Arco and ampm station fan for road trips because they always seem nicer than the surrounding stations. This station does that as well. The Food Mart nearby looks sketchy, with its dim lights and aisles of beer. After noticing its eerie ambience, my family stopped by here instead. We fueled up and got snacks after complications with "What? My card isn't scanning? Oh it's debit only? Okay..." Then it was off to the restrooms. In short, in the rest rooms I felt like I was in a scene from Saw with the trough sink and all, but it was usable. In the end, the gas was cheaper here, the ambience was nicer here, but it didn't really make it on my list of favorite Arcos. Often the cheapest gas station at the exit, it's hit-or-miss with Love's about a block down the way. A bit tricky to navigate past a bunch of big rigs to get here, but worth it if you're filling up from empty, as some of the other stations ten to fifty feet away inexplicably charge up to $.80 more per gallon at times. This is nice little Arco station just North of Bakersfield off the I-5 at the CA 46 Lost Hills exit. The gas is inexpensive and was $.04 less than Loves and Pilot stations. Arco does not take credit cards so you need to be prepared to pay in cash or be willing to pay the $.35 fee to use your ATM/debit card. The Ampm convenience store is well stocked and the cashier was friendly. The fountain carried Diet Dr. Pepper and you had a choice between ice cubes or crushed ice. I Always go for the crushed ice so I was stoked to find it as an option. Bonus - the bathrooms were clean, too. I'll definitely be using this as a convenient refueling stop for road trips up the I-5. Update: there is now a DQ Grill and Chill fast food restaurant open next door in the same building. read more

The cheap @)&$$$& don't want to pay the fee everyone else does and want to penalize people for using a card on a travel route - NEVER GO HERE!!! And then charged another $.35 to use my card inside. Stopped in here for a quick gas stop on the way to Walnut Creek. Location is right off of the freeway and very easy to get to. We chose this place over other gas stations because of solely the price. The quality of the gas isn't as good as Chevron or Shell but the price is way less than the others. There is a store and DQ connected to this place as well. AMPM has a bathroom that is pretty clean. You can clean your windows while you are filling up. 4 stars for the price and convenience. read more

Lost Hills suits the name of this "city" because it is in the middle of nowhere. We always end up stopping here for our fuel needs whenever we're on Hwy 5 driving to LA or Las Vegas. Probably because it's around this point that our gas tank is on empty and our bladder is on full and we have no choice but to stop. This Arco location is located amongst a bunch of other gas stations and fast food restaurants but it's the cheapest gas station compared to the rest of it's neighbors in this little plaza. There's also a diner next door you can sit and eat (although we never have) and there's snacks and drinks within the little quicky-mart-type setup. The bathroom however is suspicious... seats are steel and it's really dark so you can't see if it's really that clean (and I really think it's not) but hey I guess you have to compromise if you'd prefer the cheap gas... read more

If your car misfires and runs like crap after filling up here. It's the gas. Our WRX was misfiring like crazy after filling up with Premium. Ran through the tank, filled up at Costco and now it's running great. If you don't care because you have a Ford that runs like crap anyways, then you'll save$ for sure. Went to fill up. Gas pump malfunctioned and spilled gas all over the place. Gas station attendant claimed there is no problem with the gas pump because nobody else reported it. This kind of negligence is irresponsible and dangerous. Filed a complaint with Arco the next day, and shortly after the station manager contacted me to resolve the situation (she came in from a vacation to do this). I will have to say this gas station is in the middle of nowhere, but when you need to find a rest room out here, then you will find this place to be a great place. We were driving back from Las Vegas to San Jose, and one of my boys needed to use the restroom, but of course we are in the middle of nowhere after leaving Bakersfield, but I remembered seeing this gas station on the way in, so we just wanted a few minutes, and there is was an oasis of clean restroom. The people that worked there are very nice people. I had all the boys use the restroom, and of course they all wanted something to drink, so we refreshed our drinks and we were back on the road in minutes of stopping. This is a great place to find when you need a restroom, I am sure we could have stopped on the side of the road, but this was much easier. read more

I make the commute between LA and SF about once a month and I usually stop in Lost Hills of Kettleman City. When I do decide to stop in Lost Hills, I always refill at this arco because it is easily accessible off the freeway and they are always cheaper than their competitors. When I fill up I get Premium gas, so I'll take savings when I can get them, no matter how little. Aside from the gas prices, another reason I stop here is to use the restroom. I make my commute in about 5 hours so Lost Hills is my half way mark. The restrooms are fairly clean, for the men's room at least. They have one stall and one urinal and there is never a line. Overall this gas station has everything you need from snacks, emergency supplies, restrooms and of course gas at affordable prices. read more

This is a typical gas station located halfway between Bako and the coast. It makes for a decent enough stopping point as well as a place to stretch legs for a moment. The restrooms are not the cleanest in the world but they work. The biggest draw to the this particular gas station is, in my opinion, is the Dairy Queen! read more
