I started with the latter, which was delicious -- but the powerful flavour of cheese and the egg yolk drowned out the chard. My wife's potato flan was quite nice, but it arrived buried under a heap of truffle shavings that tasted of nothing in particular. My main was a special of roast suckling pig with potatoes and a savoury tuile made with the pork drippings. The tuile was gratuitous -- a chef-y touch that didn't actually taste very nice. The suckling pig was beautifully cooked but the potatoes were weirdly inconsistent; some crisp and others mushy. Il Fornacino is a good restaurant that would be the best restaurant around in most places, but the five-star bar is set pretty high in Tuscany. But the prices were very modest and the wine selection was great. It's a tremendously good value for what it offers.

Upon arrival a quirky and fun-loving waitress cleared a table and served us immediately. At 2100 hrs, the place was packed with three large parties of 10 or more with three additional small tables seated. We had water, pastas, bruschetta and tea. Everything was delicious! I recommend the "lard" bruschetta, which looked like sliced turkey meat on bread but delivered a very different flavor, one that tasted very good with tomatoes and salt. I suggested we go for bistecca alla fiorentina, or Florentine style steak. This typical Tuscan offering is the region's signature dish and for good reason! We hopped on Sabino's scooter and took a gorgeous ride through Chianti to get to Da Padellina. When we pulled up, a Porsche 356 1600 Super was parked in front. Porsches are really not my thing but this vintage beauty captured my attention. Not fancy, the restaurant's history is long and shows on all the walls. Sabino and I dined upstairs overlooking rolling hills. We split a huge slab of meat (you get to choose it before they cook it) and it was carefully explained to me that the cooking method for bistecca alla fiorentina is very simple: fire, salt, pepper, olive oil. Basically it's all about the meat, which is served very rare. We also got sides of beans and potatoes and plenty of red wine. Those in search of a proper Florentine steak will surely find it here. Two words to sum up my meal at Da Padellina: Buonissimo Bistecca! Definitely one of the more memorable meals I've had in Italy.

First day me and my buddy Brian went for an afternoon snack of some of the best charcuterie I think I've ever had. They source/make most of their food, including the cheese and meats from their nearby estate. The chianti we had (sangiovese and cab blend) was local, and very good and only €20 for the bottle. The espresso after the meal was on point and they give you a magical basket of various breads, olive oil from their farm and honey they make as well to go with the charcuterie board. Second day I came with my wife and our friends Alex and pat and we did lunch right. About 2 hours of just stuffing our faces and drinking a bottle of sparkling pinot Nero that was exquisite. We ordered burgers two which, they're known because again, the cattle are just over the hill and these were so good. I wish I ordered medium rare but I wasn't thinking. Still you could tell these are grass fed cows, the veggies on it were so bomb, and the bun was light and airy. Perfecto! We also got these lightly fried vegetables, a cold pesto pasta and these fried dough balls that come with made that morning mozzarella and prosciutto. My god, please make sure you order that, I think it was called coccalini. Anyway, now let's talk about that view...it's a postcard of Tuscany type of view and soak it in. The staff here is lovely, friendly and speak English. There's lots of seating indoors and outside and there's free wifi to get your Insta on because you gotta share these views and meal with friends, even if it's just virtually.
