This place is trash. As a single, young woman and student, I wanted an apartment that was close to campus and also felt safe. Upon touring the apartment, when I asked the tour guide about the area, she said it was extremely safe... That could not be farther from the truth. The apartment is located right next to the homeless shelter. I have seen many hobos just wonder into the complex, along with multiple drug deals go down (the weed smell in the apartment is unbearable), and have even woken up in the middle of the night to police cars right outside my apartment and caution tape around my neighbors door (I still have no clue what happened because the communication between staff and tenants is terrible).
When I first moved in I had a problem with my key. It started off working about 75% of the time, and eventually it came to the point where I could not lock my door nor get the actual key out of the lock. I had already experienced how crappy maintenance was while trying to report an issue with my AC (which I will get to), so I went out and bought new hardware with my own money as well as made the complex a copy because I didn't feel like it would be safe to leave my door unlocked overnight. I did still however save the original hardware as well in case maintenance ever wanted to try and fix it. The next day I took the copy of my new key to Rent Athens downtown. I was honestly shocked. I was greeted by a man, who when I tried explaining the situation, gave me the sassiest attitude and told me I was going against my rental agreement by changing locks. I was never offered any kind of reimbursement nor a consoling apology that I even had to switch the lock on my own. I would understand if someone switched the lock with the intention of keeping the landlord out, but I did it as to not risk my own safety. Their response was ridiculous, especially considering I gave them a copy of the key within 24 hours of changing the lock.
Along with feeling so completely unsafe in my apartment, I can't even rest there because of all the construction that has been going on this year. When touring apartments, nothing was ever mentioned about the upcoming construction and placement of two and three bedroom apartments. As a studying interior designer I know that these projects take time (sometimes up to a year) to plan before they even start construction. I however was not notified until after paying my deposit and first months rent. I have since been woken up numerous times to loud equiptment and hammers banging.
In addition, the actual unit is also garbage. Since I moved in around August I have had the worst experience with the AC. It is basically what you would see used to cool a single motel room, so when used in the one bedroom units only the living room is cooled in the summer/heated in the winter. I called maintenance about this issue and they told me a switch in the apartment would turn on a fan used to circulate the air. After turning every switch in the apartment, I quickly learned that what they told me was bull. I believed them because there are vents in the ceiling, but have since come to find out from a neighbor that the vents are from the central AC that the apartments used to have but have since been taken out because they were too expensive to maintain (kinda funny that they can however afford to put in brand new units). It is now only the beginning of summer, and I've had to go buy a $300 AC unit for the bedroom because inside my apartment reached 95 degrees and I could not sleep.
As well as the unit, location, and neighborhood being terrible, it is important to note that the amenities offered by the complex are also crap. Since I have moved in the apartments pool has been a disgusting emerald green with who knows what floating inside, the club house that sits in front of the pool is half closed off to tenants, and the "gym" is a tiny room with a treadmill and exercise ball. I mean if your not going to give tenants proper AC, can you at least provide us with a clean pool to cool off in? Then, don't even get me started on laundry... When touring the apartment, a major concern of mine was that there was no laundry offered in the unit. I expressed this to the tour guide who reassured me it would be okay because there was still a laundry facility located with in the complex that was only $1 to wash and a $1 to dry. First off its about $2 to wash and $2 to dry, and that's only if you're lucky enough to snag one of the six washers offered to about 8 buildings worth of tenants. Other tenants are terrible about actually changing out their laundry and will leave it sitting for hours, so you have to get there at a prime time and hope that not all washers are taken. There have also been several issues this year with the water supply to the laundry facility because of all the construction going on at the complex.
Overall, this place is, and excuse my french, a total sh** show. I would not recommend this complex to my read more
