I wish I could give this place zero stars. Staff is terrible and not attentive at all. Mold everywhere, fire alarms go off all the time, the internet goes down all the time, and they rarely email with an explanation and NEVER have any sort of compensation except some lousy chicken fingers one day. I didn't have a mail key until midway through my lease, they lost a debit card I had shipped to my place and could not have cared less if they tried. the room wasn't ready when we first arrived to move in, it looks like nothing was cleaned at all. The rent is ridiculously high for such a terrible place, and you can live at better apartments for way less (not that it's difficult to be better than this). I cannot stress enough to live literally anywhere else. These people do not care about you or your well-being they just want the money and nothing else matters. Worst apartment in this area if not Athens in general. live ANYWHERE else. We have been getting a bill after my daughter moved out in early July for how the other 3 roommates left the refrigerator at the end of July. No one ever answers the phone, they don't respond to emails, and they haven't followed through with getting the charges taken off our account. Very unprofessional with how they handle things there. read more

The building is not safe as there have been several break-ins and lackluster response with people constantly getting inside the residence floors and to the pool. Roaches Ridiculous fines at every turn The location is pretty enough but you'll notice the cracks in the facade pretty fast. I have lived here for 3 years and have watched it slowly go to hell. First, our fridge broke. It took months to get a replacement and we had to use a box to keep it closed. Next our oven broke. The door literally fell off and was taped back on and obviously fell off again. Now our heat is broken. It is July and this has been an on and off issue since April. The fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night very often and management does not address the issue or give any reasoning to why this is occuring. The pool/8th floor is closed very often. There is no contact number for security on the website, so unless you see the security gaurd wandering around your out of luck for any help. There have been several doors/gates that are supposed to need a keyfob to open that have been left unlocked for months. Hallways/common areas are left trashed after every weekend and takes days sometimes weeks to get cleaned. The elevators are out of service majority of the time, management will only inform you about an issue randomly and usually right before they actually fix the issue. My second day living here I walked into my room to a maintnance man unannounced in my room, there was no sign on the door and no warning that maintnance would be there as the repair request was made by the resident that lived there before me. There is often broken glass laying around outside, and a spot that homeless people go to set up their tents right next to the complex. Cost is very high for the little amount that you get out of this apartment complex. read more

I moved in here in August to all the drains clogged, broken AC, pills on the floor, stains on the carpet and walls (which they've yet to fix) don't bother trying to call security for anything because they never show up (all u can do is leave a voicemail and hope someone hears it but they never do) my neighbors have been harassing me and my roommates for months and nothing has been done. I would suggest anyone thinking about this apartment for yourself or your child, to consider other options. They charge an exorbitant price for promises of an upscale and safe living situation and fail. My daughter has lived at The Standard for 1 1/2 years. There have always been problems, as there will be with all apt communities, but it has gotten worse. My daughter was without air conditioning in June, as hers broke - for most of a month in this GA heat wave!! She had to go down to the management office about 6 times to beg for a repair. They would sometimes give her a single portable unit for her 3 bedroom apt - you can imagine how well that worked. It took a month to finally fix it while my daughter was getting physically sick from the heat. On top of that, the pool is often shut down for long periods for various reasons - the latest was over July 4 weekend when the kids have the time to enjoy it the most! To add insult to injury, the Jumbotron TV they like to show off during tours rarely works. The parking is a very limited (non-existent for guests) and with the garage door often broken and left in the up position, good luck finding the spot you paid for since anyone can now use it. The worst issue though is the lack of safety. As I mentioned, the garage door is often broken and left open, but worse, the street gate which is suppose to always be locked is often broken. There have been multiple incidents recently of men walking in to the apt complex and trying to get into the apts. I have reached out to management about this, talked to the manager twice who said she would call me back, she did not, so I have left 2 messages for her over the past week to call me back and she has not. So much for them caring about providing the dream they sell on tours! read more

Been living here for the past couple years and wish I would've moved after my first lease. Managers literally do not care about anything expect for your insanely expensive rent payment. Elevators are constantly broken. Parking garage fees are absurd. Pool has been closed for majority of the past 2 years. Worst part is the fire alarm goes off ALL the time and only the managers can turn it off. Recently, it went off from 12am-4am because no manager cared enough to come turn it off for the residents. I have never seen such poor mismanagement and a lack of care for simple housing needs. For example exits signs, doors and parking deck gates are normally broken. They double charged rent even after checking with the front desk on exactly how to set up a proper payment method. When this was brought to managements attention I was initially told it would take 30 days to issue a refund, but by then my rent would be due. After I told management this wasn't good enough I was told they would reach out to me after talking to corporate. I check back when I didn't receive a call within 72 hours to be told they "forgot to call" me. Since be charged double it has been 10 days and I have been worked around. Furthermore there have been many safety concerns. The day after I moved in there was a fire in the trash chute at 7:00 am. Many random people are able to enter because of the broken doors and on-site security being utterly useless. Residents had someone enter their home asking to sleep on their couch. This place is far from feeling like home when you don't feel safe to go from you parking spot to your front door. Many other places around UGA that are a better price for better living conditions. Nothing ever gets fixed here let alone in a timely manner. There are constantly security risks like broken doors and homeless people wandering around the building. Rent increases every year with no additional value of services, and like I said they dont even take care of the things currently here. The parking here sucks residents get towed or ticketed regularly even when displaying their parking pass. They have about 5 guest parking spots to be shared between 500+ residents. They would rather do useless give aways than provide actual security for the people who live here. If I could give this place negative stars I would. I thought living here would be worth the expensive rent due to the pool, amenities and location. I was wrong. Horrible horrible WiFi half the time my phone can't even connect, which makes doing school work in your apartment almost impossible. The tv is very old and apps like Hulu and Netflix often quit on it and the image quality is very poor. The pool is closed more than it is open and the maintenance team is overwhelmed and overworked. There was a time where the fire alarm would go off weekly. The standard often charges people with absurd fees during move out (I know someone who was charged bc their oven wasn't clean). DO NOT LIVE HERE. LIVE AT THE MARK INSTEAD!! I never write reviews, but I literally think I need to do a public service by telling the UGA community what a rip off this place is and the TERRIBLE quality service they provide. You might notice a lot of short, 5 star reviews from roughly the same time. I wouldn't trust them, they give you points for writing a good review that can be redeemed, so I wouldn't trust it. Here's why you shouldn't live here: 1. Fire Alarm goes off ALL THE TIME. In the past month or 2, the fire alarm has gone off for 3+ hours non-stop, including at least 2 occurrences in the middle of the night (I'm talking loud fire alarm from 12:30am-4am). It's loud and goes off ALL the time for no reason, which is annoying and unsafe because no one will believe it if a real fire goes off. Extremely irritating and hardly ever is dealt with in a timely manner. The fire alarm is going off as I speak, despite the fact that I wrote this 3 months ago. 2. ELEVATORS BROKEN CONSTANTLY!!!! At the standard there are 2 regular elevators for the normal lobby entrance and then one on the side called the Strong Street elevator. I literally think the strong street elevator was broken MORE DAYS THAN IT WAS FUNCTIONING. I'm fortunate I didn't get stuck in it for all the times it broke down in the 2 years I've lived here. It's SOO inconvenient and the elevator will go unfixed sometimes for WEEKS!! The elevator is broken as I speak 3. Closed amenities. In winter 2020 to spring of 2020 the pool was closed for construction for several months. Fair enough. But when I came back for August 2020, typically one of the HOTTEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR, it was closed AGAIN for construction. Why would you do construction in the SUMMER? And it was before class work increased so it really was inconvenient to not use the pool that we PAY LOTS OF MONEY to use during the HOT SUMMER. It eventually opened up on a limited basis due to covid and they deactivated our key to be able to go up there on our own without asking the lobby for permission which was also annoying. The free coffee machine was also closed until the other month and I don't know why. Due to covid, the gym was closed for serval months, which was also inconvenient. Some of this you might think, jeez that's kinda harsh cause it's covid they can't control it. BUT ALAS, at some point ALL OF OUR AMENITIES WERE TAKEN AWAY. Did they lower the rent to compensate for this? NO! Actually, they increased the rent, made us pay for more utilities, AND Increased the price of my partaking pass. Made me pay A LOT MORE MONEY TO EXPERIENCE LESS BENEFITS OF LIVING THERE. A COMPLETE UTTER RIP OFF. The pool is closed as I speak 4. Maintenance is hit or miss. Our fire alarm in our apartment kept going off for no reason, so we called maintenance and they just changed the batteries and it didn't get fixed. Our ice maker is broken and won't stop making ice when it's full so the freezer overflows with ice and we have to manually dump it out. We called maintenance and they didn't even come. Still broken. There are many other stories of people having full on water leaks in the apartment and no one coming for hours. 5. Fruit flies. At one point while I lived here, the apartment complex as a whole had a massive fruit fly problem. They put a fruit fly trap in the trash chute and it probably caught 300 flies on that one trap. It was annoying and difficult to get rid of them, but it is better now. I could go ON and ON, but long story short, the standard wants to make you pay more each year for LESS AND LESS quality of living. If you want to live in a luxury apartment with similar amenities, LIVE AT THE MARK INSTEAD! read more

Please read this before renting I posted another rating here before i had the information I have now. The new owners of the Standard are Greystar, and if you look at their track record, you would NEVER rent one of their properties. There is actually a global movement against them https://greystarnightmare.com. Having been a victim of what amounts to blackmail, I can honestly say I've never seen a company so blatantly get away with such shady business practice on an ongoing basis. You will never be able to contact Greystar by phone and the leasing office is trained to give the run around, and do it rudely. They are not negotiable or rational and will use whatever means necessary to get your money. If you consider moving here, please speak to several residents who have lived there over the past year. I believe you will find reports of negligence, maintenance issues, failed promises and fraudulent charges after move out. And again, I just flat out advise against living here. IF YOU MUST live here: I advise you fill out the move in form in such detail that is seems ridiculous- include pictures of every angle and detail of the apartment. On move out- DO NOT GIVE THEM THE KEY UNTIL YOU WALK THRU THE APARTMENT WITH A MANAGER AND HAVE THEM SIGN A FORM SAYING EVERYTHING LOOKS FINE AND THERE WILL BE NO CHARGES. Do not let them talk you out of this. If you do not do that, they will send you a bill for ridiculous charges later, in the hundreds of dollars. And don't expect to ever see your deposit again. I write this because it really bothers me that they are preying on college students who cannot afford extra costs, and want to keep their credit ratings, and by not paying the fraudulent charges, they risk a credit ding- hence the blackmail. And it bothers me because it's unethical and criminal and they are getting away with it. Calls for a class action law suit. read more

WOULD PUT NEGATIVE 10000 IF I COULD!!! I would NEVER recommend living here- they made my life as horrible as they could. To start off they're "amenities" are broken all the time, and I even heard a staff member lie to someone who was touring saying they weren't sure why the elevator was slow and that they always work (when it had been broken for over a month). They don't respect the students living there and really won't help you unless you have a parent call and even then it takes so long to get help. The management is HORRIBLE and so are the staff. There are only a few spots for guests and parents and they are always full. The standard is BEYOND overpriced and I would live ANYWHERE in Athens before the Standard. The apartment above ours had their toilet over flow and the feces water drained though our ceiling, the track lighting in the ceiling, through our vents, feces water in our kitchen, on countertops, our appliances, in our refrigerator contaminating our food, 1 cm of feces water on our floor, flooding in our hallway, the fire department was called and it was a horrible situation at 2 am last Thursday morning. The property managers came later in the day, and only offered a humidifier to dry out the apartment. She said someone would come by and clean the place and a week later, nobody has shown up. We can't use our food or kitchen and the floors are disgusting. And now, we get to deal with the impending mold spores forming in the ceiling, electrical and vents because they've not properly taken measures to clean up the mess. Horrible management. I've never made a yelp review before until now. This building has many problems stemming from residents that management fails to properly handle. I'm currently writing this at 5:28am, the fire alarm has been going off for about 50 minutes because somebody pulled and used a fire extinguisher in the hallway, and management has yet to show up to give first responders the overwrite codes to shut it off. Maintenance requests take weeks to be handled, and for one of my work requests the woman who did the work said she was helping maintenance catch up on requests. There are fruit fly and roach problems, the elevators are broken more often than they work, and none of the individuals who break the elevators or leave broken glass at the pool are not held accountable. I do NOT recommend living here, you would be spending way too much money to deal with inconveniences like this. read more

Terrible management. I stayed here for a year and moved out as soon as I could, we paid the full year for amenities that were closed 90% of the time. When I moved out they requested my forwarding address and then when I had a package accidentally shipped to that address they didn't notify me or allow me any time to pick it up. When I called to see what was going on they told me that they had returned the package to the sender. I am frustrated because there was crucial and important items in that package and they couldn't even notify me that it had arrived. On top of that the people who live there are sneaky and annoying so it was just overall a bad experience. read more

We had the same experience as a previous reviewer of a lack of concern or care from the management at The Standard after 4 emails and several phone calls. We called the out of state management as well, and NO ONE would respond. Our unit doesn't have bugs, but The Standard is forcing every resident to have an aerosol insecticide sprayed in the units. This pesticide is not safe if used improperly and without proper cleaning, especially since this insecticide will be sprayed in the kitchen cabinets. Our unit DOES NOT have any bugs. When we questioned the use of the insecticide - no response. When we asked where in the lease does The Standard have the right to spray aerosol insecticides in the unit - NO RESPONSE! We are not objecting to pest control, but forcing the residents to have an aerosol spray in the units is harmful to their health and not convenient during mid-terms. AND, like a previous reviewer said, the amenities including the pool and roof top are not open! So you are paying for amenities that are not usable and good luck getting a response from management. read more

I wish I could give less than one star. Managers are very unprofessional, unorganized, and always pointing the finger when it comes to admitting why their amenities are unavailable. There have been SEVERAL times the elevators have been broken and no one comes to fix it for days, even 2 weeks once! I couldn't get in and out of my apartment easily, and made it extremely difficult to be prepared for my job because they would ignore the elevator problems for strong street side residents. I asked LAST YEAR for them MULTIPLE TIMES to at least put a key pad outside our unusable elevator so we could at least get to our side and just walk up the stairs, but they never got to it. I asked over and over and over. Nothing. Pool is never working because they don't get it prepared on time, the computers don't work, the printer didn't work for WEEKS AT A TIME. for students.....that is BAD. they don't care. One time someone who works in the office mentioned how managers talking negatively about the residents...who does that? They don't have any key pads on really any places but main areas so everyone that doesn't live in the easily accessible areas had to walk all the way around. This company has such high expectations for the residents to fulfill....especially MONEY WISE...... but us residents get nothing for what we pay. If they can't meet their own expectations for their residents, it should NOT BE THIS EXPENSIVE. They will always be looking for ways to charge you out the ass even when they can't do their own part. DONT be tricked!! Just be a visitor of the standard. Don't live there. Especially if you hate fruit flies. Because those also will come out of every drain. Lol even your bathroom. But good luck!! Where to begin. The top issue is definitely the lack of security. It's literally always something, from an old man who got in through the broken door (broken for 3 months) and stood at our door for 7 minutes or a man attacking a resident and entering residents apartments. Not only is it the lack of security it's the fact that multiple entrances are broken and open for use at any point. The lock on our front door was broken no matter how many times sweet maintenance comes to fix it. There's also things that have been broken for months but it's not maintenance's fault AT ALL. They are the actual best and the nicest part of living here. There's not enough staff to help with the amount of shit that goes on here and we pay way too much to have to sleep with pepper spray on the night stand. Guest Parking is the other huge issue because for some reason that was not a consideration when building this place ?? Good luck having friends over because they will most likely get towed or there won't be a spot due to the 5 designated guest spots being full. Don't waste your money here. read more

This apartment has major issues. I've been here for a semester and a half, and I cannot wait to move out. Here are some reasons why: 1) The fire alarm goes off randomly. After one incident of the fire alarm going off for no reason, I learned that the fire department is not even contacted when it goes off. Residents have to call to inform them. Not to mention, the alarm is extremely loud and high pitched, so much to the point that it's painful to hear. 2) The pool is almost always closed. Students go up there to party and leave glass around, so the pool is closed the majority of the time. 3) There is hardly any parking in the deck. Over 50% of the parking is "reserved parking," so you have to pay an extra $25 a month for those spots (on top of the outrageous rent you already pay). Many people refuse to pay that fee, which leaves us all to try and find the leftover spots in the deck. 4) When I first moved in, my air conditioner did not work. It was 80 degrees in my apartment for three days until maintenance finally decided to help. 5) Things get taken from the mail room ALL the time. It is literally just a room filled with everyone's packages. Anyone can walk in and take whatever they want. 6) The parking garage is very poorly set up. It is extremely small, and it's impossible for two cars to make turns at the same time. Multiple cars have scraped their sides on the wall trying to squeeze past another car, including my car. Bottom line, look elsewhere for your apartment. The Standard is NOT worth the money you pay. They do not care about their residents and it shows. read more

I write this as I sit through yet again, another fire alarm going off. This is the second time within a week's timespan, and there have been approximately 3 other times this semester alone. I hesitated to write a review because in the beginning of the year, I thought new management would make things better. Clearly not. They refuse to take some of our very expensive rent money and put up cameras in the stairwells, parking deck, or even the hallways. Almost always the fire alarm is pulled by some drunken jerk, so why not make them pay? Also, at least 2/3 elevators in Building One is broken every single week. It's like clockwork. Again, usually due to some drunken group jumping up and down in them. A lot of times they simply do not work on their own. All they do is repair it for a couple days, and it goes right back to not working. As another review mentioned, the new mailroom is a total free for all for packages. This means you get a code when you get a package, and it lets you into a room. Everyone else's packages are in there as well. Multiple packages have already been stolen, and we've only had the system half the semester. This place is a train wreck, and until they start holding the residents who make it this way accountable BY PUTTING UP CAMERAS, they're going downhill fast. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Currently as I write this review at 1:27am the fire alarm is blaring and has been for almost an hour. I wish this were an isolated experience but it is not. The fire alarm frequently goes off for no reason and without warning at all hours of the day and night and does not stop for hours. You pay a premium for amenities that are frequently not open. The pool has been closed and will not open until July according to the front office. July is when my lease ends, what's the point? There was a mandatory pesticide spraying in the apartment during midterms that required every single unit to remove all of the things in their kitchens and bathrooms and thoroughly clean before and after the spray was applied. We also had to leave the apartment for 4 hours in the middle of the day when almost all of our classes are online and we need a quiet work space to do them. It was extremely inconvenient and completely avoidable had the standard treated for insects prior to move in, instead of after there was an outbreak of cockroaches in some of the units. They do not respond quickly to emails and the only way to get management to do anything is by having a parent call. They don't listen to students. They overwork and understaff the maintenance team and they seem to intentionally keep the front desk employees in the dark as they never have answers to simple questions. When something goes wrong at the Standard the management is quick to send an email out blaming the residents and removing any guilt from themselves. Awful place to live. read more

UPDATE: As a parent paying currently paying for 2 rooms at The Standard since Aug. 2020, I'm getting a little concerned about the security. ** I originally posted this about 4 weeks ago. Then just 2 weeks later I find out there was an armed robbery and rape just outside the Strong Street building entrance and near the dog walk. Worse, my roommate uses that entrance after working the late shift and he reports that he's seen the Strong St. entrance door propped open at 2AM. Is security not walking through the building grounds in the night? Is there late night security?? Initially I was convinced this apartment had top rate security. However, as a resident on the email list, I'm disturbed about the number of regular in-house vandalism acts that seem to cause other residents to suffer unnecessarily. The mgmt. always sends emails asking residents to come forward with any information on these incidents, and it doesn't sound like anyone ever gets caught. This has happened at least 5 times. At least twice, elevators were broken by rowdy behavior (jumping/kicking) from residents and then out of service for a while. There was a dumpster fire (no joke) started by a resident - both buildings evacuated at night. A sink in a common area restroom was intentionally broken off the wall causing flooding and a total water shut off. And NOW the rooftop lounge/pool area is closed AGAIN due to vandalism inferred to be from residents. I thought having the key swipe to access the rooftop should be an easy way to document who was up there or was allowed access? I see some cameras around the property. Do they not work?? Why aren't there more security cameras? I have multiple cameras around my house and I live in the country with minimal crime. My cameras were less than $50 each. Not exactly sure where to begin, there is a lot to unwrap here. For starters, Management is full of ableist employees who are too lazy to walk to work so they park in handicap spots 24/7. The lack of professionalism is unreal, and yes it gets worse! They constantly blame the tenants for management's lack of leadership because they can NEVER seem to get anything right. They are extremely poor at communicating to residents and treat the Standard GroupMe like a high school group chat. Additionaly, if sleep is a valuable commodity to you, this is NOT the place to be. The fire alarm has a reputation of going off for hours at a time in the middle of the night with the fire alarm company being over an hour away and rarely ever fully fixing the problem. Furthermore, if you were hoping to soak up some sun by the pool, you may want to take a rain check because apparently amenities are not included in rent, but rather, are "privileges." If you are hoping to hate your time in Athens, I would stay here, but if you are a rational human being, I would run far, far away!!!! read more
