Repertory Theatre of St Louis - The set for Emma at the Repertory Theater of St. Louis

December 16 is the 250th birthday of author, Jane Austen. Celebrating early, I went to see, "Emma,"…read moreat the Repertory Theater of St. Louis. First, the location of this theater is excellent. It's near Webster University in the suburbs, a more convenient area than St. Louis City where other theater venues are located. Second, if patrons go to a matinee, there is plenty of free parking. I went on to the 2 p.m., Sunday afternoon showing of "Emma." There are ways to get discounted tickets at the last minute. I recommend visiting their website for more details on how to do this. I bought a flash sale offering which included three shows, "Emma," being the first one. The show itself was 2 1/2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. I recommend getting everything you need before you go into the theater. 15 minutes doesn't give patrons enough time to get in and out of the restroom or get a drink because of the lines. Speaking of drinks, there were three specialty offerings. Each one had a theme relating to, "Emma." My personal favorite was the Emma Expresso Martini. Almost every seat gives you an excellent view of the stage. If you are not familiar with the layout, show the ushers your ticket and they are happy to direct you to your seat. There were not many open seats. It depends on the production if it's going to be a sellout or not. Evidently, there were a lot of people who are fans of Jane Austen that were in attendance. The costumes and stage sets were top-notch. The scene from the berry-picking party and its aftermath was absolutely hilarious. I loved how the actors interacted directly with the audience as if we were co-conspirators in the events as they were unfolding. There are deviations from Austen's novel; however, I feel this production faithfully follows the spirit of "Emma." In addition to the play itself, the Rep's Christmas decorations were festive and welcoming. If you are in the St. Louis area and love the theater, I highly recommend putting the Repertory Theater of St. Louis on your to-do list.

I asked to play a few teles and check out what they had out but nothing was well set up, then I couldn't find a cord or working amp. I went to ask for a cable but dude was gone so I looked at T shirts. The racist T shirt is enough to give this place a bad review, but they brag about it on their website and the owner brags here yelp about so I guess they are proudly racist? Anyway all of the guitars were a little overpriced and inconsistently set up, the stuff behind the counter was more overpriced (and there was no one there to help if I wanted to play something) and I didn't want to wait around just to further inconvenience dude by asking another question. Dude came back out just as I was leaving and I couldn't get out the door fast enough. I should add - if I had found a good tele for a reasonable price I would've bought it and tried to ignore the racist T-shirt. Yeah, I would give them one star because of the overt racism but it's really just not a very good guitar store. There are better options in STL with no politics involved, better prices, better variety, and better everything.

Staff was not friendly and seemed out by our being there. As far as selection goes, it was limited…read moreand expensive.

Small lobby and a screening room that seats maybe 50 people. Fun posters and other stuff. The schedule is updated regularly for at least a month out, so you may pretty much structure your life around screenings. Bring your own food. Fun, informal contests before certain screenings. Themed cocktails. Tickets often only $5 and occasionally free may be purchased online in advance w/o extra fees. My best time at Arkadin was for a screening of Carnival of Souls, which was preceded by a mini carnival behind Arkadin. I hope that happens again.

I want to check the calendar and make it back out for more regular happy hour + movie night dates. I know my husband would love it. The seating in the theater itself is comfortable- a few rows of traditional movie seats, with a few rows of armchairs and other seating in the back. You can tell that the very kind owners have poured their hearts into this place. There has been a lot of thought put into the bar menu, the decor, and the features every month. Happy to see such a crowd turning out for events here, like the Taskmaster finale watch party last night. There is something special about a group of people so into their "thing" and sharing it with the community. Bravo!
