First off to say, I'm not an elk, but I have been in here quite a few times for events. Our high…read moreschool class has had several reunions here, and we just recently had our 45th. The place is clean, and it's just such a nice atmosphere. Not too fancy. A very nice atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly, and he made sure to take very good care of us. If there was anything we needed, somebody was there to help. The food was excellent. We had a choice. Of either chicken or grill your own steak, with all the trimmings. I had the steak, and it was very decent sized. It came with seasoning, barbecue sauce, and butter if you wanted to put it on, and then you just popped it onto the grill, and in a few minutes, your dinner was ready. My steak came out, perfectly, medium rare. It was tender, and it was delicious. They had several different desserts, and they were also very good. Afterwards, we just had a nice time visiting and catching up. It was a great event. The Elks always take good care of us. Thank you for a very good evening.

First off the location and facility is really nice. The building is huge with so much meeting / congregating space. Most importantly are the members. Such a warm welcoming group. From the person checking in people, to the bartender to just people hanging out.... All very hospitable people. Had a couple of drinks and some good conversations. I could see becoming an Elk sometime.

Trails leave right from the HCNC. Friendly and knowledgable volunteer staff greet you and can help you plan your trip. Stop by after your walk and report what you saw on the whiteboard. Take a load off and use the binocs to capture a 'life' bird siting. The gift shop has ultra cool stamps, stickers, tshirts and hats. Along with local natural history guides. The architecture itself is something to behold. Do not miss this!

There's a super fun matching game that's a hoot and managed to stump two marine biologists. There a quaint little gift shop with cool t-shirts, hats, stickers and notecard plus a selection of guides and interp books. You must check out their state of the art restrooms. Definitely be sure you go for a hike in the dunes, they have heaps of markers so you can find your way back. The wildflower are beautiful and you can see lots of wildlife especially if you're quiet. Plus there's a lovely beach and if it warm.....jump in!! Anyway, it's a must visit, great for kids and it's free unless you want to make a donation.
