Too bad, really. This proprietor is rude and condescending. Super knowledgeable (!), but very off-putting. Ask a question that's not in his acceptable set and he'll answer with unfiltered scorn. And he's not having a bad day; we've come to the store many seasons over the years and he behaves priggishly every time. You'd think he'd take so many related comments to heart, but no evidence of that. Many other wonderfully curated stores to do business with in PTown. In my 65 years coming and going, this one no longer makes the cut. read more

Jay is very passionate knowledgable about all the items in his store. The variety of artisans and how he supports them is beyond commendable. If you're looking for great gifts for yourself or others then this is your place. My favorites include the clay coffee mugs, hand sewn stiffed animals and the scarves. read more

You can tell this owner is a very judgmental person. I just get a vibe and a comment of "let me know if you have any questions." Just the type of person I can read your mind that you are judging how much money I have. Especially after observing how he interacts with others. I wouldn't support a business who treats others that way because you don't know what I have. Will not be back and it's unfortunate others felt the same way. read more

A wonderful selection of truly unique, beautiful items. Many are handmade, most made from sustainable materials. What stood out the most was the very high level of craftsmanship of every single items. If I had more time I would have been able to stock up on thoughtful, sustainable gifts for everyone in my life. I did not find the owner to be rude whatsoever. He was knowledgeable and accommodating. There is a slightly eccentric quality to his interactions, but I found it refreshing. He probably is someone who doesn't suffer fools gladly, but the service he provided was impeccable. I plan to patronize this store regularly. read more

Every year I vacation in Provincetown and love shopping while there. This was the first time that I ventured on down commercial street more off the beaten path from most of the businesses. We entered Arcadia and began to browse. The shop keeper did not acknowledged us and sat glued to his laptop with a stern look on his face. We attempted to say a pleasantry to him and was met with coldness, rudeness, and he was all around aloof. The vibe I got was odd and unpleasant so we left as quick as we could. After reading MANY reviews I see that I am not the only one that feels this way. NEVER again would I step foot into that shop. I'll spend lots of money at all the other wonderful businesses. read more

OBNOXIOUS & IGNORANT I have enjoyed coming to Provincetown for many years for it's charm, it's relaxing vibe and also for Commercial Street with all of the little shops and the many treasures that store keepers work hard to meticulously curate and make available for sale in their stores. One of these stores happens to be Arcadia at 141 Commercial Street (at Montello) owned by Jay Gurewitsch (pronounced Gory-Witch -- because that's what she is). I have had the unfortunate experience (on two occasions) of walking in to peruse the little wonders inside. Each time, I have been met with obnoxious Jay and his "know-it-all" and "condescending" disposition which she evidently brought over from New York (where she had another disappointing store in Chelsea on West 19th). The items in the store can sometimes be interesting and fun BUT AVOID this obnoxious queen AT ALL COSTS unless you want to leave annoyed, disgusted, and unfortunately, touched by her negativity. Unfortunately, in all her years, Jay still hasn't learned that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar! read more

This is one of the worse retail experiences and definitely the worse encounter I've ever had in all my years visiting PTown. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. The gentleman (I'm being kind), at the registered glared at me with disdain the moment I walked in the store, which was empty! No greeting, no offer of assistance... The questions I asked were responded to curtly. I didn't feel welcomed or wanted in this establishment. I left without purchasing anything as I'd never reward such rude and unprofessional behavior with patronage. This place really should be closed down. Definitely doesn't belong in Ptown! read more

This is the worst shop I have ever been in Ptown regarding the service. I asked the owner if the the candle is on sale, however he went off on me and pointed out his finger and yelled at me, I was completely shocked. I only asked if the candle is on sale because I found a cheaper price online. The owner is completely an a$$hole and terrible person, no wonder this store has other poor reviews. Over the past 3 years, I've given this shop 3 chances. As mentioned below, the owner is the least hospitable person I've ever encountered. Provincetown is a wonderful fun and friendly town and I've always had amazing experiences in the shops. But this guy. . . just stay away. Each of the 3 times I've gone in, he's been incredibly rude, curt and goes out of his way to be unfriendly and unhelpful. Nothing in this store is worth being berated and belittled. read more

This is a wonderful shop with unique offerings. I went in looking for a gift for a friend, and left with something for myself as well.

This store is down the street from our place! On our first visit our five year old was so intrigued by the wooden boxes of animals with all the secret compartments. The person working there was absolutely a delight showing our son how the box worked. I love when a store takes the time to engage with my son! It's a really wonderful spot. read more

I love this new store in town. Such a great and unique assortment of gifts and fun merchandise. I especially love the animal door stoppers that look like stuffed animals and the glass octopuses. The owner is really friendly and helps explain the origins of some of the unique items. You can tell that he really loves his store. read more

Visited this store to buy a couple of nice items as a birthday present. Unfortunately, the owner (Jay) was extremely rude, condescending, and belittling. For example, when I approached an item, even before having the chance to ask anything, he interrupted my curiosity by abruptly describing how the item was made and telling me the price in a way suggesting it was out of my price range and so I would not interact with the item any longer. As another example, when I asked about the origin of a particular item, he proceeded to tell me that his family has been making such items for over a hundred years and added the price at the end of his brief explanation as if to suggest I couldn't afford it. Straight out of the shopping scene from the movie, Pretty Woman. I was coming from work and it felt as though he was judging me based on my appearance. I was ready to spend close to $400 in his store, but decided to leave instead because I felt so uncomfortable. I would think twice before bringing your business here unless you want to be met with prejudice and arrogance. Extremely poor customer service! read more

I was so excited to have Arcadia open across the street from our house! Jay the owner has selected so many unique items from American or Fair Trade artisans - and he explained that he tries not to overlap with items for sale at other Provincetown businesses. I am in love with the blue leather frog paperweight I purchased that was handcrafted by an 86-year old grandmother. And Jay never forgets to have treats waiting behind behind the counter for our French bulldog who does her own version of "shopping" along Commercial Street! read more
