Located on East 79th, I…read morehave walked by this building numerous times throughout the years and never really paused about going in... until I heard about the Matisse exhibit. Founded in the 1920s, this family owned gallery is housed in an impeccable French neo-classical townhouse. Matisse: The Pursuit of Harmony (April 9 - May 22, 2026): what a treasure to spend hours slowly studying and admiring Matisse's paintings, drawings and sculptures in person. I overheard someone from the gallery giving a private tour say that a majority of the works were loaned to them from private collections (can't recall correctly but I think only 6-9 pieces were from museums). I had enough time to go back to view paintings that really made an impression on me, especially L'Idole [The Idol], 1906, oil on canvas.

The security guards were so nice and welcoming, and even though the galleries were truly elegant, no one seemed snobby or distant. Most people - both staff members and participants - just seemed happy and excited to be there for this historic art experience. The galleries themselves were incredibly beautiful and - from a purely architectural standpoint - worth seeing. If you know someone who is into stunning buildings, then def take them there on a friendship or romantic date. Though this particular exhibit was a real treat in and of itself. People were pointing at various paintings and sculptures and going crazy over them. Perhaps the most amazing thing about this free exhibit, is that you don't need a reservation nor a membership to see it. One can literally show up without a ticket, stand in line and get in (when their time comes). Bravo to Acquavella Galleries for making impactful art and artistic education so accessible to the general public. It was so fantastic to immerse ourselves in the expressions of this innovative mind; this particular exhibit is open until Friday, May 22nd. Big thanks! In Celebration of Artistic Expression, Kat

They also have a cafe inside with a gorgeous view, gift shops, on multiple levels and a seating area with lots of charging stations. They have plenty of bathrooms and they're well maintained. We were lucky to have nice weather and were able to enjoy the outside garden area. It provided quite a unique and pretty view of the city. A one of a kind 5 star museum. At the end of event you could purchase the book and it was also a book signing by the authors which I didn't participate in. Whom ever design the bathroom needs to take a bow because I couldn't stop gushing over it. The only problem I have with the bathroom is no toilet seat covers installed inside. The bathroom was spotless and they have a little closet within the bathroom so, if there is a lack of supplies an employee can get it right away. The staff here was great very helpful and super nice from Male Host, to the Coat Checker which I don't know why the ad kept saying limited space so there might not be enough room so don't bring big bags, that room was spacious to me because I even seen a little closet for "Lost And Found". I was a Coat Checker myself so this great to see. Now, the reason why I gave it four stars instead of five because I seen a mouse and discreetly told an employee and she said to me that I'm so sorry. I was shocked because I thought she was going to say "I'll tell someone right away". She showed so much empathy towards the situation, you come to an event not to see another show as well. I use to work in live events so, these things happen. They had three bathrooms Unisex, Men and Women if anyone needs to know . Free event, Free tip!

A Spring Palette In…read moremid April, shortly before Easter, Carolyn at the dining room of The National Arts Club led me to the familiar corner next to a row of early American paintings. With a warm smile, she asked, "You like the table with light?" Yes, the well lit table between the image of a young lady and that of a pastural landscape was a fine choice for the evening. While absorbed by the bubbles rising in the narrow wine glass, I noticed in the distance the slender manager Vincent. He brought with him two freshly prepared dishes. The young manager, originally from Paris, had a surprise for me, for he turned the white canvas of my table into a spring palette of jovial colors. In front of me, the poached halibut was transformed by three delicate zucchini blossoms. The blonde ensemble over the white fish sat on a bed of spinach cornered by sliced red beets. On my right side, there was the plate of emerald broccolini. Vincent credited the new design to chef Alex. Looking at the perfect creation, I asked, "How can I destroy it?" Vincent said, "You have to." The taste of the evolving sculpture was as perfect as its image, for the fish was tender and fresh, never over cooked or seasoned. Carolyn said, "See you soon." Indeed, I will return to greet the new palette.

The art usher was very lovely at this location as well and was available if I had any questions (the only one being if I was able to see more art upstairs lol). Stunning pieces throughout - I was able to view some of my favorite artists here - Alec Monopoly and Angelo Accardi. After visiting this location, I found a new love for David Kracov's work. He combines 3D art with comic book themes, and for a portion of his art, Looney Tunes - which who doesn't love that franchise!? I also loved Kunst met een R's works, which specialize in luxury chocolate bar art - beautiful, compact, and extremely elegant! I overheard a buyer come in, and the pieces go for $10-50k!!! I'd love the luxury of walking into a gallery and inquiring about some serious art at high prices - rightfully so, as they're all so beautiful. I'll definitely revisit when I'm in the area when new pieces come into rotation!
