My bike getting set up
Princeton J.

I rented two types of bikes from Arbutus ... I first rented a trail bike and I chose the Pivot Mach 5.5 for trail riding, this bike rode like a dream... like floating on a cloud the suspension was so amazing! I could tell the mechanics really kept up the trail bikes. The second bike I rented was a downhill bike, a Specialized Demo 8. I wasn't really impressed with the quality of their DH bikes, they seemed a little beat up. Either way I fell I fell in love with the Pivot Mach 5.5, the service was pretty good and the girl working there made sure my bike was all set up proper with weight and suspension. Everyone seemed friendly. Rentals include helmet and pedals. But I'd suggest bribing your favorite pedals if you are particular. This shop is a little up the road from the village in Whistler, but you can ride to the lift down the road.

I will be renting a Demo 8 in July for my second trip to Whistler. I rented last year from Arbutus Routes last year and was impressed with the ease. It was smooth sailing to reserve the bike online. Once in beautiful Whistler it was a short walk from my hotel to the shop. I was promptly greeted by the young lady at the front desk and before our hello's were done my well maintained Demo 8 was being wheeled over to me! After a quick once over I was on my way. I rode for 4 days and the bike performed flawlessly. I was even able to keep the bike at my hotels for ease of use! Returning the bike was just as easy and all the employees were super nice. This is why I chose to rent from them once again. Side note- I made an error on my reservation and with any hassles the manager, Shaun Fry, corrected my mistake. Thank you to everyone at Arbutus Routes for making me feel like a friend! Can't wait to see you all in July!

Checked out the store and had some real solid merchandise. I remember breaking my visor retaining screw and they just hooked me up for free! Seems like a solid store with solid employees

Had a screw in my tubeless and walked in and it was fixed there and then letting me hit the trails. Amazing service and people.

Cycle Whistler - Kickstand that they claim I singlehandedly damaged

**I recommend avoiding this bike shop unless you're prepared to pay for their equipment upgrades.**…read more As a father of two, I rented a Rad eBike to follow my kids around for an afternoon. Before leaving the shop, an employee specifically told me not to sit on the bike while the kickstand was down. I am a licensed US-FAA pilot and maintain all my vehicles and gear to high standards. When given instructions, I follow them carefully. Within the first 30 minutes of riding, I put the bike on its kickstand, and the kickstand immediately broke off. The bike wasn't dropped, crashed, or mishandled. (I did subsequently ride the bike down the popular Valley Trail to Lost Lake, which involves some gravel, but the kickstand broke long before that.) When I returned the bike, I handed the broken kickstand to the staff and explained what happened. After inspecting the bike and confirming there was no other damage, they said nothing about additional charges, and I left. The next day, I received an email with ~$150 in charges on my credit card: $90 for a new kickstand and $50 for labor to install it. This was done without any prior communication. When I spoke with the manager, she claimed she had contacted the bike manufacturer (Rad Bikes), who supposedly told her that the only way the kickstand could break was if the rider sat on the bike with the kickstand deployed. This was incredibly frustrating because it implied that I was lying about how I used the bike. The manager kept repeating that I had signed the waiver and declined their $20 insurance policy. Despite my attempts to explain that the kickstand might have already been weakened by years of use or previous riders, she dismissed my concerns. The kicker was when they sent me a picture of the broken kickstand, which clearly showed significant wear and tear--exactly what you'd expect from years of use and not a single ride. Now, I get to purchase and install a brand new kickstand for their aging bike. Talk about the straw that broke the kickstands back. In short, if you don't want to end up paying to upgrade their used bikes, I strongly suggest renting elsewhere.

My husband and I had two bikes reserved on 7/30 and were looking forward to an incredible day when…read moreI received the devastating call that my father had died unexpectedly. We called the shop immediately and received not one ounce of compassion or sympathy just a reference to the 24 hour cancellation policy. Poor service and a lack of humanity that only added to a horrible day. It doesn't take much to be kind. This place sucks!

Ever feel like the challenges of life are closing in on you? Sometimes it just feels like it is…read moreonly a matter of time before you succumb to those pressures and demands. It feels not so much a question of if, but when, you'll finally be consumed by them. And then, often by accident, life takes an unexpected turn and you are provided an opportunity to choose to push the eject button (that's been right in front of longer than you realized) and propel yourself into what feels like an alternative universe. A place that allows you to unplug from the breakneck pace of today's society, take a deep breath, and finally linger in the bliss of just being present. No chirping cell phones, no calendar reminders, no bills to receive, no health concerns to ponder, and no need to make plans for the future. An all too brief respite from what emotionally entangles you and seeks to rob you of your peace and your purpose. Without planning it, we fell into such a rabbit hole while floating down the River of Golden Dreams (its actual name). A little rowing (and a lot of just floating) later, we arrived at Green Lake and just allowed the wind to help us drift across glacial waters so green we felt like they can be seen from outer space. We dipped our hands into that water, splashed it around a bit, and pondered just how much time and attention it voluntarily sacrifices to the stresses of today. It whispered its response back to us, "None." So what to do if Green Lake doesn't happen to be in your backyard, and yet an escape is exactly what you need right about now? Good question! We're on this journey right alongside of you, so while we're pursuing our "Green Lake escape", we wish you good fortune in discovering yours! (In keeping with Canadian tradition, we were careful to pack an "Oh Henry!" bar as part of the emergency rations for us and our tour guide Peter.) And that's...Henry's Take. #celebratelife #justbreathe #wetadventures
