When I quit my job as a Medical Assistant I wasn't really certain what I wanted to do. When I saw an ad in the Journal Times for Home Instead Senior Care it struck a chord with me. I went on the Home Instead website to learn more about it. It seemed like a job that I could be happy doing. Caring for seniors in their homes is definitely different from anything I've done before, but I truly enjoy it. I know that every day I'm with them I make a difference in their lives. I treat them like I would treat a family member: with patience, kindness, and dignity. The most rewarding part of care giving is when they say, "Thank you for all that you've done today". And I can honestly tell them, "It's my pleasure." I feel that my service is valued both by the Home Instead office staff and by the clients themselves. Having her return home was no longer an option; which led me to quickly get to up to speed on senior living options,mostly on my own. I found her a place & moved her in all before her release. While I ensured her safety, I second guessed my decisions as she vocally struggled to adjust; it was a lot of change particularly for someone who rarely left her home. Almost 6 months in, a different set of doubts & worries took over. Did I make the right call, could she live somewhere more affordable, would she outlive her money, etc. I don't even recall what search term led me to Senior Living Experts, but I'm grateful. Rebecca listened to my story and made me feel less alone. She thought where my mom was at was the best option in terms of cost, desired location and care needs addressed, but would do the research and circle back. We also discussed the care she received currently and provided a few suggestions. As promised, Rebecca followed up and confirmed her initial assessment. Yes, I'll still worry about her finances, but I now have a better understanding of the landscape and what comes should her care needs increase. Turned out to be true. I was there for two 10 day stays. The PT, OT, general care, food, and room comfort was as good as it could be. Response time from the help button was seconds and minutes, not the horror stories I hear about other nursing homes. I would not even consider another location for future needs for myself, family, or friends.
