PT was understaffed and inept. Food was always late for example lunch at 3. Room never cleaned since previous resident and then not for 5 days. Located in unsafe area on irvington border. Patients left unattended in front of TV blaring soul music. Tried to get food downstairs but they wouldn't make anything because they were closing in 1 hour. Do not let the facade fool you. Rehab places are generally not good but this one is worse because it hides behind a facade. May be OK for assisted living but if you need any sort of care you are going to severely regret your decision.

We were excited to visit her and see where she was living now. And to our pleasant surprise, we found CM to be a beautiful retirement village that catered so well to our Aunt's needs. My Aunt's apartment was so cozy and perfect for her, and what an amazing view she has from her balcony. You're literally looking into a forest of beautiful trees, especially now during the Fall season. And nearby, is another gorgeous view. My sister and I had the privilege of staying in an apartment right on the grounds of CM for guests to those who live there. How convenient that was for all of us. We were impressed with all the staff that my Aunt introduced us to. They were so friendly, attentive and all with a smile. We ate in the formal dining hall once for dinner, and it was so delicious. And we also had lunch one day in the Cafe, which was equally as good. My Aunt is 88 (soon to be 89) years old, but still has a lot of "kick and bounce" in her. And we're so happy she chose CM as her retirement home. We feel she's well taken care of, safe and has everything she needs right there. So thank you, CM, for a wonderful vacation you provided my sister and me. We're looking forward to coming back for another visit next year. And thank you for taking such good care of our Auntie Elaine, too! =)

I waited to write this review so I would be able to reflect more clearly on the experience. Mostly, my father's and my family's time there was not very positive. I am leaving the two stars for those staff members that did treat my father with kindness, compassion and understanding. We decided to put my father on hospice so we could access more daily care and less medical testing ect. However, what we observed is less concern, less care and less compassion. My father's care was not easy as he had little mobility and dementia/delirium the last few weeks was significant. Hospice did provide pharmacological intervention but did not provide much support or communication with the family. Fortunately, my family was able to spend every day with him and provide him with the support required to make him as comfortable as possible. The most disturbing was that my father was placed at the end of the hall and after this daily visit once per shift by the nurse, there was no check- ins by the aides other than the alert bell that he could ring. The thing is when we rang, it was longer then 10 to 15 minutes before anyone would show up and at times it could be 30 to 40 minutes. No aide was stationed outside in the hall, so I spent much of my time searching for help. There were four occasions, I found them on their cell phones in empty rooms. Rarely, did not see supervisors on the floor making periodic checks on both him and staff. Basically, any assistance received other than the bare minimum, was mostly reactive not proactive. I would like to thank the nurse that did sit with him a few times during the end as his anxiety was severe and also the staff members that alerted me when his needs not being met. In the end, an aide assigned to my dad daily was treating me harshly, that I hired a private aide to stay with my father so that I could take a break from what appeared to be passive aggressive cruelty. This aide refused my father his last cup of coffee on his last day telling him the kitchen was closed, as my brother showed up and retrieved a cup in that kitchen. Previously, I did ask supervisor to speak to her but was told, that it was happening. I often wonder how she treated him while I was not present as he was somewhat helpless. Unfortunately, taking care of both my parents, I witnessed other facilities, and it is my opinion as a society, we must do better with the elderly. Working with the elderly and health care is a very difficult job. Owners and administrators must do better providing a caring emotionally and monetary rewarding environment for their staff. The response to these reviews asks the writer to call and discuss. Again, reactive, so I will offer my further input only if it is a proactive response.

To say that I am deeply disappointed with the care my mother received at the SN Genesis HC - Holly…read moreManor Center (84 Cold Hill Road, Mendham, NJ 07945) is an understatement. What should have been a safe and supportive environment for a two-week rehabilitation stay after hip surgery turned into a constant source of stress and concern for our family, ending with the subsequent decline in health of our loved one and her passing away. The facility has issues with being short-staffed. This created an atmosphere whereby staff seemed overwhelmed and inattentive to the needs of the patients/residents they were responsible for providing quality care. My mother entered this facility with no issues related to incontinence and within a few days the facility was putting her in an adult diaper. Family members witnessed call lights going unanswered for extreme amounts of time. This could lead to an increased risk for patient/resident injuries due to falls as well as incontinence. My mother was transferred to this facility with medical notes from nurses and doctors at the hospital she had her surgery in. As the receiving facility, Holly Manor Center was privileged with the knowledge that my mother was being treated for Congestive Heart Failure as well as finishing up a course of antibiotics used to treat pneumonia. Part of Holly Manor Center's care plan reports included vigilant assessment of her CHF and for resurgence of infection(s) since this was still a critical post-operative period for a geriatric patient. I was assured by the social worker that this facility was able to provide those assessments and cares should the need arise. This, however, was not the case. Communication was another major issue. It was difficult to get updates about my mother's condition, and when I reached the nursing staff and asked questions, responses were dismissive or felt like there was an uncertainty in how to respond to questions. On a few occasions, receptionist could not even find nursing staff to receive my call, and would leave a message, but no nursing staff called back. Nursing staff were often aloof with responses and this left you with the overall impression that they did not care. My mother's health began to decline within a few days of being at this facility. Nursing staff would not take our concerns seriously, despite their own care plan including vigilant assessment of signs and symptoms related to possible infection(s). Less than a week after she was transferred to this facility for physical therapy/rehabilitation, she had declined so badly that we demanded she be transferred back to the hospital. With reluctance, they finally agreed. Once readmitted to the hospital, it was determined her pneumonia had become so severe that now she was septic. She was received back to the care of the hospital with a noted bed sore, and visible decline and health. Within a few days of this, my mother passed away. I would strongly urge others to carefully consider their options before placing a loved one in this facility. What was supposed to be a short-term stay of two weeks, showcased how problematic elderly care is in this country. Poor quality of care, lack of medical assessment, and a reluctance to see the actual signs and symptoms as serious will forever leave our family wondering if this facility's dismissive treatment of my mother hastened her decline subsequently her death.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and the culture of family permeated throughout his time there. Administration was always available for any needs that arose in everyday living, insurance needs, and always welcomed feedback. The medical staff is extraordinary in terms of medical knowledge and treatment, as well as providing a level of emotional support that makes a resident feel truly valued. The team is always upbeat and positive, which makes a huge difference day-to-day. Dad LOVED the food at Brandywine. He ate three meals each and every day and the diversity of options and quality of the ingredients and preparation were at a level of virtually any restaurant. The social activities available at Brandywine provide entry points for anyone's interests and level of desired engagement.
