The traditional "hot dog" establishment used to be commonplace in every small town across America. Today, it's hard to find them, but they're out there, further complicating things is the fact, you can get a good hot dog at plenty of places that don't just specialize in hot dogs, which mean you must sell a dog that is considered "best in show" unleashing flavors and textures that are simply irresistible, if it isn't memorable chances are I'll forget you exist. Arbetter's Hot Dog, has been serving up piping hot, juicy hot dogs and chili dogs for years, this place is so nostalgic, especially for the locals who grew up eating hot dogs that were created out of passion, a passion that only the founder can bring every hour of everyday of every-week year after year after year. I'm sorry to say this kind of passion can't be passed down, duplicated, inherited or willed, it doesn't work that way with hot dogs or anything else unfortunately. I so wish I could have experienced Arbetter's when they were at the top of their game, trust me it pains me to be the one to inform those living on the memories of years gone by, this hot dog is not the hot dog that created those precious memories you hold so dear. It's understandable that many make excuses for this worn out shell of what I believe once must have been an unbelievable experience, but it's obvious that passion no longer opens these doors everyday and that can be extremely difficult for a community that has embraced such a iconic business to accept. There isn't much room in today's world for a business that ignores what's obvious to most and remain viable, I'm sorry I can't ignore the run down infrastructure or the aging direct food contact surfaces, the lack of food safety and cleaning programs. I know selling a low margin relatively narrow range of products leaves little room for capital investment, the food I was served was room temperature and that is unacceptable and has nothing to do with taste or quality, it's about microbiology and risk, I don't ever want to feel I got lucky when I eat anywhere, but when the food almost beats you to your table and isn't slightly warm that should raises a flag. I'm not over looking anything just because it's cheap, you can only survive so long on the coat-tails of past successes, you have to perform everyday in this results driven business environment.

"Large portion" of onion rings $4

Their chili dogs are some of the best around. Just tried their onion rings and while good, for $4, I was expecting more. I had two orders and the bags were the same.

Best Chili Cheese Dog I ever had! Great Shakes, friendly people, old school original decor. What's not to love?

An eclectic menu done right!…read more LongDoggers is one of those rare places with an eclectic menu where everything we've tried actually works. We've all been to restaurants with big menus that only execute one category well--or where the American food is solid but anything outside of that completely misses the mark. That hasn't been our experience here. This was our second visit. Two years ago, we happened upon LongDoggers while traveling to the drive-thru Bethlehem at Lakewood Park Church (which is phenomenal and highly recommended). Heading down again for the same event, we considered trying somewhere new, but the good memories of LongDoggers brought us right back. The atmosphere is casual with a bit of a sports-bar vibe, and the food is genuinely good. No photos this time because we were way too hungry to wait the extra five seconds , but I did grab pictures of the menu. Our table ordered the Blackened Shrimp Lettuce Tacos, a Banzai Shrimp Bowl, the Cool Ranch Chicken Sandwich, and a Buffalo Chicken Wrap. Every item was a hit. Entrées were $15 and up, especially with upgrades, and meals come with kettle chips. Service was another plus. Our waitress was friendly and attentive without hovering--prompt but not overbearing--and she shared the specials and offered recommendations. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. We stopped in around 1:00 pm on a Saturday and were seated right away inside at a booth-style table. By the time we left, there was a clear line and a wait. If you're passing through or looking for a casual spot with a varied menu that's executed well, LongDoggers is absolutely worth the stop.

With my first visit to Rockledge I thought Long Doggers was. A must visit place. The dining area is…read moregreat. It's patio slash tiki atmosphere is really appealing. All of the servers buzzing around so busy we're all super Florida friendly and very attentive. I got a hot dog with chili and sautéed onions. The dog was great, it had a good bite and was nice and meaty. The bun was substantial to hold up to the ample toppings. I wasn't a big fan of the chili, it was too sweet. The onions didn't stand out either. I got onion garlic french fries and they were F'ing fold. C'mon long doggers cold French fries how can you drop the ball on French fries? That said it's a fun place and the actual hot dog (sausage) has potential so I'd say go try it for yourself.
