In Bs. As., the gaucho shops are called "Talabarterias" and they are mostly concentrated in the Recoleta area. Gayle and I stopped at Arandu twice during our recent Argentina vacation. We ended up with several sheathed knives for gives, plus a nice leather purse, a "silver" box, and a picnic set. Arandu only looks expensive over its expansive 3 floors. At 15.9 pesos do the US$, we found most anything we looked at to be very reasonably priced. Our only regret is that we didn't go "whole hog" and go for a complete steak knife set or at least a "BBQ' combination. Maybe the checked baggage details factored in to that decision. However, their complimentary 2017 calendar is now up in my Office and will maybe serve as future inspiration. You need to be buzzed in and store staff does kind of watch you closely, but they were very friendly and helpful when making our selections. We also pretty much skipped the 2nd floor, as this is the place for all your Polo needs. They also have a store in Salta at Caseros 308.

Very cute gaucho shop. It looks expensive but the prices are actually very reasonable for the quality. I purchased a very nice leather belt for my husband for approx $30. The store has three levels full of a variety of merchandise and the sales people are very nice and helpful. If you are looking for nice gifts for yourself or others they have it all - leather goods, wool, everything equine, mate, knives, jewelry, clothes, shoes, etc. Definitely worth stopping by to take a look.

Top floor of the store, make sure you check out each level!

Fantastic products. Terrific boots, shoes and riding accessories. Great store. I bought several shoes which are beautifully made.

I'm not sure what to make of this place except I know what I like and I like it. Two adjacent…read moreshops. One has shoes and boots for men and women. The other is mostly purses and satchels for women. Almost all of the products are leather and in a multitude of pastel colors. The designs are so cool with seamless mix of retro and modern. Lots of attention to detail too. The soles of the shoes for example either have a molded design of Argentina or human metatarsals I think this is a stand-alone design house because when I asked, I was told this was the only place in the world to get these shoes. And boy was I ready to buy except... the entire block was out of electricity and I didn't have time before my flight to get cash. I didn't see anything in either store that I did not like a lot. So cool. I'll be back before Christmas. They don't have a website and their facebook page does not do them justice. https://www.facebook.com/TaconesLejanosArgentina/info

I'm pleased I did because I bought a pair of trainers which are so cool I can't believe I was lucky enough to spot them and make a purchase. They weren't cheap but if they were, they wouldn't be so well made and are leather inside as well as out. I'm reluctant to wear them because they are so nice but when I do, people will ask me where I got them. I will take pleasure in telling them to go to BA and get a pair. Not so easy from the UK! I can't find a website where I could look for another pair, suppose I could pick up the 'phone.
