    Used General Ledgers for the first time this last tax season, I had bounced around the last couple…read moreyears after my previous accountant of 10yrs accountant retired. I had also migrated to online Quickbooks in March after 14yrs of using desktop (which I have always managed 100% myself) and had a couple issues I couldn't sort out myself. General Ledgers' website boasts that they offer QB training, setup, cleanup, etc. so I asked and Margie said that after 4/15 (and then a week off to recuperate) she could help me with that, how to pay myself more appropriately so I'm not taxed so heavily and also offered to look at my 2021 return. Everything went smoothly as far as picking up my 2023 taxes, I even got 2022 amended (which is why I'll be fair and give TWO stars...). Paid almost $1700. Waited until 4/24 and tried to drop off my Quickbooks issues and reports. No one there. Tried again 4/25, no one there. 4/26 I put everything in an envelope and dropped it through the mail slot as no one was there. There are no business hours posted on the building, on the door, on the website, and not even on Google. I then waited and waited. I emailed at the end of May asking for an update. No response. I emailed a week later, no response. I finally called, had to leave a voicemail because no one answered, emailed and also sent a message through the website on 6/10 before I got my FIRST response and that email response? "Hope you're doing well, got your voicemail, what questions did you have?" She apparently completely forgot she was going to help me and I'm thinking hadn't even been in office to see what I'd left. I wrote back saying that I dropped off all this stuff, my 2021 return etc. 24hrs later, I got another response - yes we have your documents, we'll be in touch if we need anything further. She also asked if the desktop reports were the most accurate. She asked me nothing else. 7/15 I emailed yet again after hearing nothing for over a month (meanwhile my inventory and COGS is getting further and further out of hand) and Margie finally emailed back. She finally found the time to make a couple of adjustments and wish me a good day. She didn't help fix my inventory problem at all, she told me nothing about how to pay myself, she just zero'd out my inventory assets altogether, QB now shows that I owe more than $39,000 in back sales tax, (and this is only what I've found so far) and when I finally got upset about the lack of communication and basic customer service and continued ISSUES in QB, she accused me of not understanding accounting at all or Quickbooks (and to take some classes as she is not a tutor, although her website says she will come to you for training!) and accused me of trying to get something from her for free. How absolutely insulting. I was a paying customer in April and I was intending to pay for her help with this as well and have NO IDEA where she came up with the idea that I wasn't! I wanted more personalized detail given to my migration issues - exactly why I relied on HER versus calling QB customer service which is actually free! She also told me to come pick up my 2021 return. I tried this morning at nearly 10:00am. No one there.

Instead, it turned into what felt like planning a small wedding. There's a $240 fee just to determine whether they even want to work with you. Not for actual tax work -- just for the privilege of finding out if you qualify for more meetings. Already we're off to a strange start. I called the office hoping to speak with an accountant. No accountant. Instead, I got a gatekeeper who immediately launched into an intake questionnaire that sounded long enough to qualify for continuing education credits. I'm sitting there thinking, "Are we filing taxes or applying for witness protection?" Then another staff member texts me asking me to confirm my phone number and email address -- information they already had, because they had just used both of them to contact me. Then finally comes the email inviting me to schedule a paid 30-minute appointment. If this is the process just to say hello, what happens when I actually need help during tax season? Do I have to solve riddles? Collect stamps? Get a note from a notary? I'm sure they work well for some people, but for me the entire experience felt unnecessarily complicated and oddly impersonal. Between the intake process and the hefty consult fee, I felt less like a customer and more like a job applicant.

My experience with this accountant was extremely frustrating and unprofessional…read more Over the course of 2 months, I was repeatedly told that my tax returns were 80% done or would be finished "by the end of the week," only to discover later that no progress had been made. I followed up respectfully every 2-3 weeks to check in, but was accused in an aggressive email written in all caps "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!!" and of bothering him every 2-3 days. The tone of that communication was unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile, especially given the delays and lack of transparency throughout the process. His excuse was always that he has over 400 clients to "deal" with. Reliability, honesty, and professionalism are the minimum you should expect from a tax professional, and unfortunately, those were sorely lacking in my experience. On April 15 I gave him an out by specifically asking if an extension would be filed, and was told it would be. As of May 10, I have no confirmation or documentation that this was ever done. The lack of transparency, dishonesty about the timeline, and hostile communication made this an extremely stressful and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this accountant to anyone seeking reliable, respectful, and professional service.
