Before passing over this business due to a handful of Karen-reviews, I would encourage you to read…read morethe older reviews 'not reccomended" by yelp. Because these reviews are old, they are not taken into account on their overall rating. I did not take any classes with Blue Horizon (yet) but I can speak to Kelly's professionalism and willingness to take time out of her day to discuss my investment in my first regulator and BCD. After our lengthy 40-50 minute conversation, she sent me an e-mail with several gear options at different price points, taking into account everything we discussed in terms of what kind of diving I would like to do and weighing that with the research I'd already done. The shop specializes in ScubaPro, but Kelly was knowledgeable about Xdeep (my other top contender) and helped me price out what that BCD setup might look like. She even lent me her partner's BCD to test in the pool, So I could make sure it's what I really wanted. The rental tank and regulator set that she lent me was well maintained, clean, and functioned and breathed perfectly - A testament to the equipment being well taken care of, which is never a given with any dive center. So far, I am very happy with the solution Kelly and me settled on. She made sure it was delivered prior to a trip I had planned to Cozumel, and I've taken two dive trips with my new equipment. I love it! so much better than the rental equipment I struggled with prior. I got the chance to meet some of the folks who dive with Blue Horizon afterward, all of whom are lovely people who are becoming new dive buddies and friends. A great business run by great people and a lovely dive community!

My experience at Blue Horizon started off great but went downhill fast. Kelly, the owner, was…read moreresponsive, knowledgeable, and attentive when earning my business. She followed up with me many times to schedule time to come in the store and pick out my gear. She spent time explaining different BCD and regulator options, which I appreciated. Based on that experience, I purchased all my dive equipment. I had to pay for the equipment and wait for the items to come in. After a few attempts to pick up my equipment, she told me to come to the store but did not receive my BCD or weights (over $1k paid for these). She told me that the UPS tracking stated the equipment would be there that day, and would call me to come back if they came in. I did not hear from Kelly for months.... I spent over 4-months attempting to obtain my items (calls to store, cellphone, emails, texts). I sent one final email before my last resort of filing a dispute with my credit card, stating I would give Kelly until a certain date to fulfill my order. She responded to that email, with the same excuse I have read in other reviews, that she was calling the incorrect number and getting the run around from the company she ordered the equipment from. I repeated my request for the refund, gave her to the date stated, and then filed the dispute. The final straw for me was, to my shock, her first response to the card dispute stated my claim was "invalid as the merchant has attempted to fulfill goods/services." At the end, the dispute did end in my favor, thankfully. I will never order anything from this store again; it was an absolute horrible experience.

Jim is very educated and truly is a master of his trade. His compassion to properly train his clients is admirable and inspirational. He took me from a snorkler to a scuba diver! No stone was unturned: I really understand everything I was taught and Jim took lots of time explaining things from the basics to the advanced topics. I'm hard to teach because I'm VERY type A and inquisitive, and he was patient and so smart in explaining everything- past what the book and videos show you (Part of your time is spent watching the videos and answering questions and the other part is actually spent in the water before you go to deep water diving) However Jim's clients range in age and skill level! He teaches many courses from your open water to advanced and rescue and more. He teaches 10 year olds! And they were AMAZING! He really knows how to teach because he is so incredibly well versed. And through his many years of experience he can speak to the old versions and methods of calculating and also the new versions and upgraded systems of scuba equipment. And speaking of this, he's also very thorough in managing and cleaning his equipment and tanks. His maintenance schedule is impeccable and he's very, and rightfully so, Type A about this! I was also really comforted by his use of both feminine and masculine updated suits! It makes a big difference to not wear a suit that's just one size fits all! Jim typically works with Riverwinds for the five under water dives before you go to the Dutch Springs Quarry. But I work 6 days a week and explained that this is not something I could make happen. He kindly and professionally opened up his home and back yard 45ft length pool for me to complete my check out dives. The quality of training I received is unmatchable. And Jim prides himself on putting HIS signature on your log book. He wants it to be completed correctly and efficiently. And he makes you laugh as you go along, too! The world of scuba opens up so many doors and opportunities: im grateful to have had the entrance I did into the underwater wonderland that exists on this earth! Jim at Ocean Aquatics is the place to complete your training. Hands down. You've found what you're looking for. See you under water!

We wanted to booked earlier 1/2p but there was a group that booked from 1p-3p so we had to postpone it a couple of hours back. the morning of i get a call from a guy named Nick who states that the group before ours had a "bus issue" and wanted to know if we were ok pushing our time back til 4p. I told them that it's not fair that our group is being penalized for another group's tardiness and that their rules & policies state that if a party is late, that they lose time. Nick said he's "trying to make both parties happy" but i told Nick that our party had plans afterwards and that we would not like our time to be pushed back. Nick states that it will "only be 15 minutes" that the group will be back by 3:15p and that we will be out in the water by 3:20/3:30. I requested compensation for the inconvenience to which Nick states that "there's not much that he can do". Nevertheless, the group still wanted to go so we still proceeded with the reservation. I, along with majority of our group, arrived still promptly at 3pm. We signed our waivers and waited until the group before us finished. The group was out there til way past 3:30pm. Nick came around this time to state that he can give us a "$10 discount" but we would need to have our physical credit cards with us to give us back the refund; unfortunately none of us had the physical card with us. At this moment, he also asked us if our entire group was here. 2 people were running not even 5 minutes late (as they were told we weren't going to start until 3:30 anyway). When Nick heard this, he said "oh you're group isn't even all here yet?" and then proceeded to walk away. Hello? I was still here (along with majority of our group) at 3pm, I still deserve the refund. I thought that was VERY rude. There was a girl employee next to him who we diverted our attention to since Nick walked away, and told her that we would still like to get started as it was now nearly 3:40pm. She helped us get set up with life jackets and paddleboard/kayaks- she was very sweet and helpful, nothing against her at all. The actual paddle boards were very worn down, not all of the paddle boards had bag straps so i made sure i had one that did as i had belongings that i did not want to leave behind. My paddleboard also made a lot of noise (unsure if there was a tear that was on the bottom of the board that was flapping around with each stroke). For $45+tax+tip, I could have bought my own inflatable paddleboard and went into the lake for free. The actual time spent in the lake was very nice, it was a beautiful day, very minimal currents, not too crowded. Besides this company there were other people who brought their own equipment so I'm guessing the lake is free for all so we really didn't need to go with this company and bring our own equipment (which I will probably do next time). There is a bunch of parking as it is in a park but only 1 porter potty nearby so it was better to change in the car. Overall, nice day out at the lake, really bad experience with Driftwood.
