Staff were so welcoming and helpful. Definitely get their breakfast!!! We didnt have time to try the spa. Park is included but have to walk a couple blocks. Wish we were staying longer here. The atmosphere is very relaxing. There is a very comfortable waiting area with chaises with adjustable neck cushions. Soft, relaxing music, appropriate mood lighting and serenity were all there, which made the fact that my therapist was 15 minutes late (even though no one else was there) a bit more bearable. Their brochure is replete with caveats and warnings about arriving late and requesting that you arrive 10-15 minutes early for a consultation. Sometimes it makes you wonder who is the client and who is the service provider. The consultation evidently doesn't apply to the type of massage I had since there wasn't one. Oh well, 30 minutes in the waiting area relaxing and getting away can help you overlook some things. The therapist I had was also quite good, though not at good as some that I have had elsewhere. I prefer a more deep tissue massage pressure even with the back/neck/shoulder massage, and although she was quite capable of getting close to it, I sensed that she was at about her limit as she was breathing quite heavy about halfway through the time period. I am not sure she would have had the stamina for a full hour, but who knows. Overall a very good experience and one worth trying if you are in the area, but not necessarily going out of your way to get there.

Already the journey to them is part of the relaxation. Beautiful views towards what feels like the end of the world. Just a small harbour and a lifeboat station are at the end of the little road. All staff that I met was very friendly, natural and competent. As it was my first time there I had to fill out a form, including any medial conditions. As this area is Gaeltacht it was first in Irish then in English. The staff speaks English. We had a special offer package via Pigsback which included a massage, facial, seaweed bath and refreshments. I enjoyed all three of them very much and felt very comfortable, enjoying some pampering. As expected you can say any special requirements for the massage or the facial. The facial can include colouring of the eye lashes and eyebrow. I got an introduction how to use the seaweed bath which included first using the cedar wood steam box, then the warm / hot seawater bath where you after a while add the seeweed that is waiting for you in a bucket. Talking to my friends afterwards the amount of seaweed seems to vary depending on the seaweed available. When I was there is was very rich and oily so it was seemingly less than on other occasions. But enough to rub it into your skin and to enjoy the treatment. The food (soup or sandwich) afterwards was tasty and nicely filling. People also came into the cafe after walks around the area just to have a coffee or for something to eat. As we were there on a lovely warm and sunny day we got to enjoy and further relax after the treatment in the tranquill surroundings. But I'd say even or especially on a cold and rainy day it's a lovely escape from our daily lives.

The Muckross Park Hotel is prime location when staying in Killarney. I loved that Muckross house was literally across the street and walkable (under 30 minutes since the house is deep into the property). But the proper gate to get into the grounds is right across though and that was perfect. The national park with the famous waterfall is also super close. If you want to get into downtown Killarney with the shops and restaurants is also an easy 10 minute taxi. So for that location is key here. I would also say staff were very friendly and hospitable. We were always welcomed coming in and out. Front desk never had long lines for a quick question. The gentlemen working the tourist desk were also friendly and helpful. The rooms were more like 4 stars in my opinion. A little outdated but we had a good view of the entrance which was pretty. The bed was a little too hard for me but some might like that. Bathrooms were nice though. Kind of a toss up on what I liked and didn't like in the rooms. We only got room service one night but the food was really good! Surprisingly we had a really good cheeseburger. There is a 12 euro charge for them to bring room service to you but that's basically the tax and tip so we didn't mind much. Heard one gal complain at the front desk which is why I note it. However, they disclosed this over the phone when you call for room service so I felt it was transparent. The biggest reason for giving this hotel 5 stars is the spa and spa area are fabulous for the most part. Maybe more so I should say the massages are amazing! I had Natascha who gave me the best message I can remember. She really focused on my feet and legs which felt so good after travels and walking. Most places skimp on this area even when I ask for more attention there but not her, she was amazing! Also the price seemed reasonable for the amenities and how great my message was. I'm telling you if you are getting a massage here definitely ask for her, so kind and wonderful at her trade. My only complaints with the spa department were how cringe the bathrobe situation was lol. Unless you are a man or women size medium or smaller you definitely won't be able to fit into the robes they offer at the spa. For me and so many others there was no way to close your robe completely. I saw a lot of flashing happen lol. Had I not been wearing undies (sorry TMI) I literally would have been majorly miffed to have to either just wing it or go back up to my room to change. So strange, I've never been to a spa that didn't offer variation of robe sizes. Okay I harped on enough about that but just wanted guests to be aware or hopefully for spa management to make those changes. Again, though the massage was 10/10 so it was all worth it.

Be aware though that the resort is historic, which some would perceive as dated. It's also off the beaten path, with most other dining options some drive away so plan on eating at the hotel a lot. My only other gripe would be that you have to make reservations for the pool, which is kind of a hassle.

I spoke with a friend later who had a similar experience with microdermabrasion here and also found them rude and unyielding. I would absolutely not recommend this salon. There are far nicer places that do a better job. Changed to Cork Laser Care clinic on Patricks Quay and was much happier.
