I was experiencing severe TMJ/TMD symptoms: I couldn't relax my jaw muscles, it was super painful to eat, I was grinding my teeth away, I had headaches constantly, and the clicking was audible to others. I was at my wits end, taking muscle relaxers and Ibuprofen daily to try to get it under control. (Didn't help at all.) I didn't know how much longer I could go on without relief; I was even considering surgery and botox injections, and I'm terrified of both things. I spent hours pouring over anything I could find online and finally came across an unbiased medical publication detailing the various TMD treatments being used by dentists. The study listed the Aqualizer as the most effective and least invasive, so I looked into it further. Although there were downsides to the Aqualizer, the promise of relief from my symptoms was more than worth the cost to try one, so I did. I ordered the Ultra Low and wore it 10- 20 hours every day for about a week before the water eventually leaked out in my sleep. The results were amazing! I don't know how, but it somehow reset my jaw and relaxed my bite, and it delivered the much needed relief that I desperately needed. In just that short amount of time, it took me back to a much more livable state. The Cons: - Short life expectancy for a teeth-grinder like me, although you may be able to get away with wearing it during the day instead. I skipped a few nights myself. - It's irritating, or it was for me, but I'm pretty sensitive to stimuli. I bought the Ultra Low to accomodate for that, so I'm guessing it was better than it could have been. However, my tongue had nowhere to sit naturally, since I always rest it against the back of my front teeth/the roof of my mouth, and so I was constantly getting those painful infected taste buds on the edges of my tongue. They could easily fix that by adding that fabric-like material to the edges. - The Ultra Low would cause me to gag at times, but I could pull it out for a minute to fix that. I might try the Mini next. - They are expensive for such a short lifespan. (Still worth it.) read more

I told her that the splint only lasted two days and she said that the company was not responsible, as the splint is a temporary device, and they would not send me a new one. BEWARE! For all of the fancy copy and editorial on their website, the Aqualizer is an inexpensive (cheap?) product. They call it a self-adjusting oral splint. What it is--a small piece of plastic folded and sealed. It contains water primarily in "bite pads." The contraption folds around the wearer's gum and the bit pad is supposed to offer a water cushion between the upper and lower real molars. A very small piece of foam covers the portion of the device that contacts the gums in order to minimize irritation. The products is sold through dentists (ours tried to sell it for $125) and direct from dentaldepot.com for $24.99. Our experience: within a few days of receiving the product, the water pouches leaked. DentalDepot (the exclusive US retailer) declined to help and instead of offering any constructive assistance, instead quoted text from their site that says effectively, "if it fails quickly, it probably is the wrong product for you to have ordered." It didn't seem to provide much comfort each of the four or five nights it was worn. Maybe it takes a few days. After initially declining to help, the manufacturer has followed up and seems to be standing behind the product. If that is the case, and our experience improves, I will adjust the review. **update** The manufacturer did ultimately stand their product and replaced the unit which had failed. Greatly appreciated. With continued use it seems to be providing some relief. read more

Within a few days most of the headache symptoms stopped. After a week the soreness in the jaw also stopped. I have tried numerous custom mouth guards that cost around $600.00 that did not work. This little device that cost around $24.00 has worked very well. I am not sure if it is a permanent solution but it has been a tremendous relief for me and is helping get back to a normal life. read more

I have severe muscle spasms in my jaw and my dentist gave me this Aqualizer to use. It has stopped me from completely clenching my jaw, but it does take some getting used to. The sharp edges are hurting my tongue, leaving bruises that are rather uncomfortable, but otherwise it seems to work quite well. It's very helpful and has let me continue on with my daily activities without any troubles other than the cuts on my tongue. Please improve this device so that the sides don't cut into my mouth and I'll give you 5 stars. Thank you. read more

I ordered the Aqualizer from dentaldepot.com for $32 with shipping. It does seem to relax my facial muscles that are inflamed due to a TMJ problem. I have worn it for 10-15 minutes at a time which helps and have also tried wearing it through the night. I am undecided if wearing it overnight was helpful, but it didn't seem to make anything worse. The custom made bite guard from my dentist did not help but caused additional pain, my dentist is not sure why. Like the other reviewer, I am not sure if the Aqualizer will provide a permanent solution, but for now it is the only thing that helps with the pain in my cheek and temple. I tried both the "medium" volume version and the "low" volume version of the Aqualizer (meaning the amount of water in the pads, the low version has less water so does not require your mouth to be as open as the medium does) and I prefer the low. It is my understanding that over time the water level in the pads will diminish, so I've already ordered another one to use when the pads become flat. read more
