Do not use this hospital. My mother was taken in to the ER after a fall. Her wrist was broken and she bumped her head. After being told they would determine if she needed surgery, we waited for a call. And waited and waited. We tried calling for answers and received no call back. After days, the next call we got was from a rude case worker telling us they were discharging her. The only people that call you from this hospital are billing and discharge. read more

ER Visit. Came in with my daughter having an asthma attack that could not be controlled with the nebulizer treatment at home (steroidal albuteral). Did as directed, came directly to ER. My daughter was given the same exact nebulizer treatment in triage, it didn't help, and we were sent to the waiting room for 2 hours. I spoke to the triage nurse, she gave my daughter another nebulizer treatment, it didn't work, sent us back to waiting room for another 3 hours. We had already tried allof this for six hours before coming in. What is the point of having an ER if you are not going to treat patients? 5+ hours in the waiting room, administering the same medications we have at home? I have never been so disappointed in AMC in my life. I suppose its to be expected. I was here 2 weeks ago for a broken elbow and a PT set it in the waiting room where they tell you the bad news in the back. Really classy. That was after 5 hours of waiting too. I volunteered here for several years with other college students from Lawrence. We played our music (or sang) near the ER. The hospital always seemed very clean and sterile. If a hospital was any other way, I would be concerned! My boyfriend came to the ER once after getting hit by a truck, and his experience here was good. There was not very much waiting in the ER. I'd never been in an ER before, but no one was too serious, so I wasn't freaked out. I heard singing while sitting in the ER and saw that my fellow college students were volunteering at that moment. It really warmed my heart! I love that AMC has the volunteer partnership. The music really makes the place feel like home. I have never been a patient here, so I don't feel qualified to rate the patient experience here at all. read more

My husband recently had total knee replacement, admitted for 23 hr. hold. It was absolutely a fabulous experience. The nurses were very knowledgeable, caring, responsive to his/our needs. The doctor/surgeon was fabulous and extremely knowledgeable! My husband was up walking 3 hrs. after surgery and has continued to do exceptionally well! We were ever for 3 day in a row. And even after the 3rd day they still couldn't figure out what was wrong with our mom. So instead of trying harder they sent her home. She is still sick almost a week later. With no idea what started it. I wasn't thrilled with the nurses bedside manner either. I understand how much work they have to do but there was not one smiling person in there of all 3 days. This includes the doctor that we seen for all of 3 minutes and then didn't hear or see from him again for 24 hours. (that is no joke 24 hours later he came back) read more

I had the worst experience ever here. I spent 7 hours sitting in the ER with excruciating back pain. I literally had sweet coming off me from the pain. Sitting there no one helped me and by the time I say a doctor the pain was gone (probably stress related). Well the doctor did a few tests (nothing really that I couldn't do myself and I should have left before then but I was tired at 4am in the morning and didn't know what to do). Well then they put me through tons of tests and now I have collection agencies all over me for tests that proved nothing was wrong with me. I will never go to an ER again after going to their ER. After calling my doctors stating I was having chest pain/back pain I was told I had to go through the ER so I went to AMC I registered they did a 12 lead EKG and was told someone would see me in about 45 minutes- 3 hours later no one even bothered to update when I would be seen the waiting room was over crowded with sick kids one very small area for everyone to wait, the furnishings are so dirty didn't want to even sit on the chairs why they have fabric that can't be cleaned daily would be a great question for the CDC and 1 very small waiting room for everyone, why do they not have someone to at least update people when they will be seen I finally left unseen will try to call my doctor again so I can wait on hold for another 25 minutes! read more

I been in and out of the ER for serious issues that still no one can figure out what's wrong. My worst experience was with nurse Michelle. I went in with migraine and chest pain and the first thing she asked me was do I do drugs and alcohol. I was shocked. I made complaint to heather who was very apologetic and I demanded a different nurse. I only had one goood experience with Dr. Oshra I think it was. I was transported to Appleton Medical Center via Ambulance for an allergic reaction. The ONLY thing they did was hook me up for cardiac monitoring!!!!!!!! Let me sitting without hardly checking on my condition. The "nurse" taking medication information did not even know basic thyroid medications. Just unbelievable. Nothing but great things so say about the staff in ER, ICU, and floor unit staff for my wife's care. Dr. Duffy, Dr. Brooks and his Infectious Discease team (Jamie and Shannon) restored her faith in medicine by their concern and care. My sister in law was recently admitted in the ICU. I was appalled to hear one nurse state, "I'm so sick of being so busy" within ear shot of my husband and myself. As a health care worker, last time I checked, people are not in the ICU to be a burden to nursing staff, they are there for a reason, usually hovering between life and death. There was one chair so I had to sit on the floor during our visit. My niece who called to inquire about her mother as she lives a 3 hour drive away was rudely and very snotty told, "If there's no change, there is nothing to report". My niece felt like she was being a bother to the nurse in charge. What kind of ICU is this place? My daughter was in St. E's ICU for almost a week and we were all treated with kindness and compassion. I did not see this here! read more

My husband had surgery here and the staff were all terrific. The doctor was very professional and yet very personable. The rooms were clean and the nursing staff stopped in several times to make sure my husband was doing fine both before and after the operation. The hospital is on the larger size and has a complex of doors and hallways. But there are colored arrows that allow you to get through the maze easily. The only criticism I have is the food. I had my meals in the Health Market Cafe. The breakfast was cold. The lunch was, well, interesting looking (I settled for a salad) and, the 2nd day, there were no muffins for breakfast.
