Approximately 70% of my life has been spent within 30 miles of Ellensburg and until this past…read moreweekend, I had no idea this park was here. Our eight-year-old recently discovered pump tracks and when we found out there was one in Ellensburg, we decided we needed to check it out. The pump track is only a small part of the larger Rotary Park. This place is got basketball courts, baseball/softball fields and large soccer fields. It even has a dog park that is larger than most of the parks that we frequent. The pump track is a small BMX track that works really well for bike riders of all ages and skill levels. There are four separate areas within this track, ranging from figure jumps with harder obstacles, all the way down to smaller dirt humps. The place is really nicely kept up and we spent a couple hours here, a few days in a row. The kids love it and there are a couple adjoining areas the lead to tennis courts and a playset. It made it really nice for the younger kids to be able to run around on a playset, and the older kiddo being able to continue to ride his bike while everyone was able to see us. If you haven't checked this place out, you owe it to yourself to do so! There's literally something for everybody!

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is a dense Washington forest with extensive networks of…read moretrails and raging rivers. We visited the forest in June when the snow was melting and there were brief rain showers everyday. Most creeks and rivers, especially the Wenatchee River, were overflowing their banks, with river water above the level of green grasses and bushes. The highly variable nature of the rivers made me wonder how difficult it would be for the home owners living just a few feet above their June high water mark. On a Wenatchee River rafting trip, a guide pointed out a high water mark when the river was at record levels during her lifetime. This must've been 10-15 feet above the already high water and would've destroyed many homes. Many of the trails in the National Forest are very long, requiring camping gear to complete the trail. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to complete any of these multiday treks, but I was satisfied with a taste of the trails in the area. The trails were generally quality from the start so I was never worried about only getting in a 3 mile hike if time was limited. Even a 3 mile hike would turn into a good workout because most of the trails had a steep incline. We were essentially stair climbing on many of the trails. It was hard but we also benefited from the incredible views. The views near the Leavenworth area were fruit trees and grapevines on the valley floor, steep pine trees ascending the mountainsides, with snowcapped peaks on the tops of mountains or on mountaintops in the background.

I saw info posted that you can get a permit to cut your own Christmas tree and gather mushrooms out here. Be careful as a lot of this area is closed now and has been closed for some time due to forest fires. Check to see what is open and when before going to visit.

My baby likes sitting in the baby swing, on the steps & on the merry-go-round (I think that's what it is, see photos) The older 2 had a blast on everything else. 3 slides monkey bars 4 swings (2 normal, 2 baby) they're kinda high up so you will need to assist even older kids getting on. merry-go-round There's trees, lots of grass & a lunch table next to the playground. & police were kinda patrolling through the area which made me feel safe since I was alone with my kids. We loved it, we will be returning. :)

The park is and has always been well maintained. The park has evolved and added overhead nets to protect the fans, which is an added bonus. The parking is always plentiful, and I have seen RV's parked around the perimeter of the parking area, so I guess it must be allowed. The park says dog allowed, but it is at the discretion of the tournament director, and for the state tournament, it was a no dogs allowed. The fields are always well maintained. The food and drink choices are a bit limited, and the restrooms seem to be inadequate since there always seemed to be a line. The park is in close proximity to stores, hotels, and restaurants. This park is mainly a structure with picnic tables and then a trail to the riverfront. It's next to…read moresome baseball fields. Following the trail along the river, it seems to end at a bunch of rocks. There was a wide fallen tree blocking across the trail, so you have to go under or over it. Parking is on gravel with a single dumpster nearby. There's access to the river at certain points, but it's steep and rocky. I stood still too long on the trail and got multiple mosquito bites.
