Being a local I have travelled up and down this street on weekends and it's pumping, well rather fluttering to the beat of well healed tourists. On a weekday in between appointments I headed in, while it was quiet, and found a seat by the window, where I could grab a quick coffee and cake. The staff always seem to smile politely and greet you however after your done with your order and with an air of busy-ness they disappear as quickly as their smile. My order came in quick time and when the waitress placed down my Soy Latte and Salted Caramel Tart I asked 'do you charge more for Soy Milk?' 'Yes' was the answer received 'we charge 50 cents more'. When I asked why I was informed 'that it cost more to buy Soy Milk'. Now I have asked this question of several cafes around the place and this is the stock standard answer I am given. From here I headed to my local Woolies and compared the price of Cow's Milk to Soy Milk. On 1ltr prices Woolies brand Cow's was $1.25, Pura Lite White $2.05, Pura Light Skim Tone $2.25 and Pauls Full Cream $1.90. The Soy milk I purchase is Sanitarium So Good at $2.00 per litre. Now as you can see there is a 75 cent difference between the cheapest and my brand of Soy Milk. I would assume, after working as a barista myself, that they use say roughly 100mls per small cup of milk in a latte. So my question why am I paying 50 cents more for the privilege of milk I prefer? I am not having a go at Appleseed Cafe, they are merely one of many who charge extra for my preference. I say if you have to charge more for an argument that belies belief than how about 5 cents per cup, or not at all! Things to ponder! The Salted Caramel Tart was delicious but it lacked any salted flavour and when I sat and looked at the board inside it read Breakfast open - 11.30 Lunch 11.30 - 2.30 and Coffee and Cake all day. Here I found another annoyance what difference does it make to the Chef if I felt like breakfast at 1.30pm? Another reason to ponder! Overall they make good coffee and their choice of cakes are tempting, though rather small in size. A good place to sit and relax with a lovely area off the side to come in from out of the sun. Worth a look for yourself, as it always seems to flutter to it's own beat on weekends.

Mmm, I had such high hopes for this place! It was recommended, and there was a sign signalling Mahalia Coffee - good start. It wasn't too busy, so that was another bonus, and the menu looked great. We ordered our meals, and the drinks came out pretty much straight away. Then we waited for our meals. I should have counted, but it was definitely more than 1/2 hour before the first of the meals started arriving. Mine came about 5 minutes later than the others, which was strange considering I ordered a pre-made wrap that only had to be toasted. Before finally receiving my wrap, I said to my partner that Appleseed Cafe was currently sitting at 3 stars, and this wrap had better be bloody good! Well, it wasn't ... it was completely bland and not as described - hence the 2 stars. The other meals looked nice (my partner's cheese & leek souffle was lovely), but I am reviewing based on my own experience - and that wasn't too good at all. And of course, no acknowledgement or apology for the extended waiting period for the food.

A cute little cafe to stop in for the lunch on a weekend drive through the Hills. Amazing hot chocolate- which arrived with a spoon dipped in chocolate and chocolate flakes on top. Surprisingly busy for a cafe of its size and more seating is certainly required on the weekends. Overall, the staff are lovely and it's a must for lunch if you're in Strathalbyn.

$52.70 worth of the worst Chinnese food we have ever eaten!…read moreWell priced and good size serve but totally inedible. All highly likely it had been precooked, frozen or at least let go cold then re-heated ad then let go back to not even Lukewarm again. Possibly we made the mistake of ringing at 4.15 and place a pickup order for 6pm as it was ready when we arrive at 10 to 6! Satay chicken-three sticks with huge chunks of just warm dried overcooked reheated chicken( they admitted this is precooked and reheated!!!down the side of the container was what appeared that it may have been satay sauce at some point, it was just cold thick satay paste that looked like someone had just scraped out of a jar it was totally cold!. Sweet and sour Pork look awful and tasted even worse, tasted almost like someone had roasted a leg of pork, let it go cold then cut the meat into chunks coated it with something deep fired it-refrozen it then just re-heated it again. As for the sauce in the container there was less than 2 tablespoons of sauce( we measured it!) and 3 pieces of onions and nothing else! Beef in Oyster sauce looked nice, but again re-heated but still verging on cold ,tasted like someone had stir fried the meat and veg then just poured some Lukewarm tap water over it to make a sauce- Totally revolting! Special Fried rice was obviously commercially bought precooked frozen rice that had just been zapped in a microwave, no way had its been fried or bene near a wok in its life! If had a couple of 1cm shrimps in it and couple of peas was just bland Lukewarm reheated rice! They may have been here for a long time but if this is what they normally serve, then any repeat business has to be from people that have either never tasted any other Chinese food to compare this food to or simply have no taste buds at all. The cheapest frozen Chinese meals you can get from supermarkets are 200 times better and at least edible compared to this food
