I received lots of sugar coated compliments (for my background) and promises. AppleOne agent Mrs. MM asked me for an in-person interview and during our chat she was very promising. My experience: she (or they) did not even get me one interview for an entry-level job. I have B.S + M.S, a recent graduate who moved to the BayArea and sought AppleOne's help to make the job searching process faster. I had a very very and very unsuccessful and disappointing experience, mostly because of the exaggeration of the power of influence that the agent showed from herself that made me believe they know what they are doing. They don't. I am writing this review to let you know that fortunately there are few other agencies that are located in the SF and they are much more active with much higher rate of success. I'm writing this review based on my experience with Apple One as an employer, not someone looking for a job. I recently found myself in a position I've never been in before. As the President of a Non-Profit Organization, I was tasked with hiring the organization's first employee. I checked all the usual places... Monster, Career Builder etc... They all had fairly hefty fees to access their database if you are looking for talent... but it also required something I didn't 't have. Time.... Lots and lots of time.. I spoke with several people who are in HR positions and told them of the unique qualities I'm looking for and they all strongly suggested using an employment service as I would be overwhelmed with the responses from the traditional online job search engines. In the first day of my search, I contacted three services. Service #1. They spoke with me about the position briefly on the phone (less than 5 minutes). I explained my budget and requirements and skills my employee needed. A few days later they emailed back saying they felt they could not work within my budget and unless I was willing to spend more money, they couldn't help me. I found this odd, because I felt and still feel we were offering a very competitive wage. I never heard from them again. Service #2. I spoke with someone who was polite on the phone for about 10 minutes.. She didn't really ask that many questions, and I felt I had to keep telling her the job requirements and I kept thinking, shouldn't she be asking me these questions? Within hours, she sent me 4 resume's to look over... Unfortunately, none of them were even close enough to even offer an interview... and this continued on for a few weeks.. sometimes up to 5 new people per day... It became obvious that their screening process was nonexistent and they did the "shotgun" technique to send you people.... Qualified or not. I wasn't impressed. My third service was Apple One. I called the San Mateo branch and was put in touch with Susan. Susan was great on the phone and asked some very basic questions. We kept in contact over the next few days and she eventually came to my office and spent over an hour with me going over in great detail the type of person we were looking for and their qualifications. Susan took detailed notes and it was obvious she had a sincere interest in finding the right person, not just someone to fill a spot and get a commission. I later learned that Susan did this on her vacation! As time went by, Susan checked in regularly and told me she was still looking for someone, but didn't have anyone yet. She eventually sent me 4 or 5 people.. one or two here and there... all qualified and all worthy of an interview. After meeting with each candidate, I would debrief with Susan and discuss their strengths and weaknesses.... With that, she kept sending better people based on my feedback. We eventually found what appears to be a great match for our organization and she will be starting soon. The service Susan provided was superb. She took the time to learn the job and with that, was able to weed out the people who just wouldn't cut it. She was respectful of our budget and worked within it with no push back and that was truly appreciated. If for whatever reason our new employee does not work out, I wouldn't go anywhere else but back to Susan to try and get this position filled! If you are looking for an employee with some specific requirements, Susan at the San Mateo Apple One is the place to start! I see a few negative reviews of Apple One on Yelp... all of them from people upset that they didn't get set up with jobs or interviews. As an employer I really appreciate them weeding these people out... and well.. some people just aren't as employable as they think! read more

I almost didn't bother writing a review for this company. After reading all the other horrible reviews I didn't know if I really had anything to add... My first recruiter Norma, seemed very nice but kept leading me on about these wonderful jobs, however nothing ever came of them. No interviews, no detailed information... nothing. Finally after about a month of not hearing back from her she calls me to tell me that it is her last day and she is handing me off to her co-worker Tracye. I immediately e-mail Tracye to introduce myself and ask her to call me at her earliest convenience. That was about a month ago. Today I get an e-mail from Tracye saying it's been wonderful working with me blah blah blah and it's her last day... she never even called me back!! If AppleOne can't even keep their own employees how are they going to help others find work?? I found a great job through Hallmark Personnel in Palo Alto. I liked them in early December, disliked them in early January, liked them in mid-January, and then ended up pissed late January. AppleOne was the very first agency I contacted because I knew it was a guarantee interview and I wanted the practice to get things into gear before I moved up to San Francisco. In LA, I was neither impressed with them nor hated working with them. The opportunities they had in LA was also so-so when I worked with them. They were the first agency I contacted in the Bay Area because I would not have been upset nor disappointed had I messed up my interview with them and they dropped all communications with me. So, in December, I was in San Francisco for a house-warming party/get-together and applied to AppleOne. I interviewed between errands with one of their recruiters and I asked her to submit me to a specific company. She did and I got my first round of interview with a biotech company. I passed and was offered a second round which I scheduled in early January when I moved into town. From my first experience with AppleOne, I was very pleasantly surprise by their client list and opportunities. During the Christmas holiday, my recruiter left. I found this out because I emailed her a week before my second interview to make sure circumstances hadn't change and the interview was still on. I got an email saying she was no longer with AppleOne. I was a bit angry that no one notified me that my recruiter was gone. Upset but still wanting to work for the biotech company, I interview with a second recruiter here. She was so pleasant and motivating, she made me like AppleOne again. That didn't last long... I merely asked the new person on my case to check if my interview was still on. Needless to say, after a week, she never got me an answer to that simple question. On the day of my second phone interview, I waited not knowing if it was going to happen. It did happen. I passed again and they wanted a third interview that would be in-person. I never got the third interview and I blamed (and still do blame) AppleOne. I blamed them for failing to schedule it. They forwarded me the interview request the morning the interview was suppose to happen. I saw the original date that the biotech company had sent them that request since I have the forwarded email. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it on such short notice and for some reason, I never got another chance. I don't know what happen. I don't know if they blamed me for not being able to do that third interview or what. They wasted my time and efforts and rank #2 for recruiting companies I do not like up here in the Bay Area. read more

I've been registered with Appleone since my early 20's when I was looking for my first corporate job and as with all temp agencies it's important to remember that they are one out of many resources a person should be using to find employment. I made sure to be proactive and follow up regularly with my recruiter until I was sent out on an assignment that was both great in pay and close to my home. This was tremendously useful to me because I was able to create a great beginners resume with solid work experience, gain new skills and create my "professional" reference list. Some important tips for people to remember are: 1) Don't just register with a temp agency and expect them to magically find you employment without you putting in any further effort (Looking for work IS WORK)! 2) Sign up with a few temp agencies and be proactive about getting to know your recruiter so when jobs come up they think of you first for interviews. 3) Be sure to use free job boards. That way your resume will be working for you 24/7 and even while you sleep, employers/recruiters will be checking you out. 4) Lastly, remember not to burn any bridges with your temp agencies and recruiters because you never know when the economy may change and you may find yourself unemployed and needing assistance again! I wanted to acknowledge an Appleone employee, Kathy Uhlenbrock. I have been really impressed. She is supportive, professional, dedicated and hardworking! She makes you feel cared for and taken care of. The San Mateo Appleone offices aren't as snazzy or flashy as Premiere or other employment agencies, but the staff is very professional and committed. At one particular job Kathy set me up with, I was having problems with a difficult co-worker. When I emailed her my concerns, Kathy called and chatted with me on the phone for a half an hour! She listened very attentively about my situation, and then provided me with really professional and reasonable counsel. She called to check in a few days later. I'm sure I am one of dozens of her clients, and the fact that she took this much time out of her day to help me through a rough patch at my job demonstrated, to my mind, genuine care and concern. I could provide other examples, but Kathy goes above and beyond the call of duty. read more

My experience is very similar to Ellie M.'s review. I filled out the online application, went to my interview, where the branch manager asked me the same question twice, clearly on auto-pilot. She said a link to Word and Excel testing at home would be sent to my email, and when I didn't receive I spoke to her live; again she promised to send a link. When it didn't arrive I then sent her a polite email asking for the chance to take the tests. No response. I believe someone who manages HUMAN resources should have enough courage and integrity to tell you she has no jobs for you rather than duck calls and emails. Aside from that poor conduct, I resent Appleone having my full personal information including social security number and passport number when it is now obvious there was no intention of fully processing me to join their ranks. I recommend no one gives their full personal data set until the hire is complete, meaning you have at least an interview for an assignment. This agency has left me feeling like I was conned -- utterly corrupt! read more

Disappointed! Over six months ago, probably mid-September '08, I filled out the application online, uploaded my resume, and set up a time for an interview. When I went in, I sat in the tiny lobby and filled out paperwork that I am sure I had filled out online. Two girls were in the lobby as well. They were texting and chatting and their general demeanour was lazy, ungrateful, and at AppleOne because someone told them to get a job or they'd be cut off from any financial aid... Finally, someone called me in to take their skills test, something that apparently helps determine where applicants will work best. Then, I had an interview with a seemingly sweet girl, who told me about a job opportunity. For some reason, she needed another copy of my resume or something that just seemed exceptionally redundant. Later that week, she called to see if I was still interested in the position and asked for a copy of my resume and availability, although she already had both (three copies of my resume at this point). A week later, I got an email letting me know that the woman I had interviewed with no longer worked with AppleOne, and that the email sender will be taking over correspondence with me. And, that was the last I heard from any human being at AppleOne. I still get the availability status email every three days. And, I still go to their website and let them know I am very free for assignments, jobs, etc. I even sent their office an email letting them know I'd like employment and am very qualified for many assignments. Most likely, all employment/staffing agencies are getting bombarded with applicants right now. Even so, I'm sure there are some really menial jobs out there that I could do for the two-four week period that they require. I am moving on to other staffing agencies, and will be far more aggressive in selling myself. And, if anyone is looking to go through an employment agency, only use AppleOne as a last resort. read more

I would call in and they really put you through the ringer to talk to someone. I was told if they need you , they will call you. Eventually one of the places that I temped for before called in and asked specifically for me. Then I was set up with MaryAnn. When I was hired as a permanent employee - they never even contacted me. Never said congratulations - nothing. I have the best job ever now ! I love it - but it was nothing on their part! Go to Office Team - I had alot of work with them. I visited AppleOne last month and the staff was very professional and warm. I met with Beverly Johnson and she was simply amazing by taking the time to understand what I was looking for. Due to the fact that I am not an administrative professional, I have very little expectation that they would be able to place me but in comparison to other staffing agencies (OfficeTeam, RHI, Addeco, etc.), I am impressed with their level of professionalism from the moment that I walked into their office. The receptionist that administers the tests was also very warm and professional and I took the time to provide her with positive feedback. I would highly recommended this AppleOne branch and use them if I needed to fill open positions or if I knew of someone that needed a temp position. read more

I'm surprised by all the one stars. I recently signed on with AppleOne and they've been nothing but pleasant to work with. I've met with several recruiters and employment agencies, and they treat you as a human being and not another number. Other firms: fill out the application, take the test, wait for the call you'll never get. With AppleOne, nope. They understand your frustrations with being in a challenging job market, and they also provide insight to the current job demands. They respond to my emails the same day, almost within the hour and they are always available by phone. And trust me when I say that I would follow up almost every day. Shela Cleveland is a wonderful staffing consultant. She's not uptight, and provides great interview advice. They couldn't come at a more perfect time, when I felt low and hopeless. I've worked with a lot of different Agencies in the past year and a lot of them do truly try to find you a job, but sometimes you have to realize that there arean't always jobs available for everyone's skills. In all fairness, they deal with lots of people daily so I'm sure they can't remember everyone who comes in looking for a job every day, but I do know that AppleOne has been great to work with. Alot may have to do with the person your working with. Susan at the San Mateo Office has been awesome! She found me a quick temp. position right away and helped me get started and receive a paycheck quicker than most. In fact, I was so impressed with her positive attitude, professionalism and enthusiasm, that I sent half a dozen friends her way. Let's be real folks.....in today's economy it's difficult to find jobs that are hiring at all and you're up against a lot of other people looking for work that may have even more skills and talent than you. Agencies are looking for the best person to fit the position, because it's their name on the line as well. So keeping that in mind - help people remember you, by being positive and persistent. Thanks Kim! After graduating for college I had a really tough time finding a permanent job so I decided to give AppleOne a try. I worked temporary assignments ranging from a day to 4-5 months and am thankful to have been working with Kim Gaan throughout the experience. It was great working with Kim because she made it obvious that she cared about my well-being and happiness so if I ever had any issues I felt comfortable with contacting her right away. She was very friendly and professional and expressed great enthusiasm in wanting me to have good experiences. If I wanted a quick assignment I could contact apple one for a days or weeks work and there would nearly always be something available and if I wanted a longer assignment I would quickly be offered an interview. I signed up to 20+ agencies hoping to get a call from either one of them. My last stop was with AppleOne. I got set up for an interview and assessment in the next 2 days. After doing all that, I was a member and got introduced to my representative Liza DeMartini. She was as good as it gets. Constantly checked how my search was going, asking me if the task she came upon would interest me. To date, she still checks on me if I am liking what I do, and I do love it. Within 2 months, she found me something which met my schedule, worked for me, and a place where I enjoy working and my employers love having me. Liza is just one of the representatives at AppleOne, there are others who have also helped me a lot. They all work together and I experienced myself as I saw them get me to a temp and then a permanent position. I know the economy is tough, that is why you need strong support. I signed up with AppleOne about a year and a half ago. I went to the Pleasanton office since there was a job I was interested there. I would rate that office and the recruiter with one star. She never followed up, never sent me job descriptions, etc. However, Nic from AppleOne in Santa Clara is a 5 star recruiter!!! He was professional and asked me all the right questions pertaining to my background, experience, what I liked to do, etc. He was sincerely interested in getting me placed. I did not find a position right away, but he kept trying. I am now placed via Nic and I love coming to work everyday. read more

Finding parking was a bit tough but I managed to find parking about a block away on an off street. At first I was a little confused because when I first walked in, I walked into a bank. Don't worry! When moving to a new region it's always good to prepare yourself before the transition. To lessen the stress one should always collect information by way of facts and opinions. The former (facts) should be scrutinized and weighed heavily, the lesser (opinions) should be taken "with a grain of salt". Being a transplant from the second largest city in the United States I soon realized that both facts and opinions can be very misleading. I was told that my line of work was very lucrative and my counterparts were making six figures in the SF market when I sought the services of the bay area largest headhunter agency. I came to the stark realization that finding this six figure career, let alone a suitable career that commiserated with my degree and background, was as likely as Obama balancing his annual budget before the year's second quarter. I have used 4 prior headhunter agencies; heard their pitch, promises and proposals only to be left with no more hope of finding a career than if I went on craigslist and replied to an anonymous employment prospect. After being "a victim of the bay area system", I decided to charter a new course and think outside of the box, and beyond the peninsula. That's when I came to discover Apple One and the exemplary stewardship of Mr. David Trujillo. In less than a month I started to receive viable leads. I have utilized David's knowledge and insight to modify my approach in seeking the most advantageous outcome to securing an interview and ultimately a position. My initial skepticism was soon replaced with a renewed sense optimism by his innate ability to relate to me as a person and my situation with cognitive functioning. David takes time to listen to me and strives to find "the" potential employer that can best fit my needs; unlike so many others that attempt to match candidates with employers that are polar and result in an inimical outcome. Please understand that it takes time to find a good working relationship with you and your headhunter; you should use the same intuitive skills as you would when choosing a physician. Not all headhunters are the same in every market, nor do they adopt the same mission statement as their colleagues. You need to control your career destiny and not rely on an agency to "save you" from this economic debacle created at the hands of the current socialist,incompetence administration The headhunter should be a tool in helping you connect with potential employers and not the panacea for your employment quandary. You need to still do the work and create partnerships and avenues to get you where you want to be...that's why I recommend David Trujillo (not necessarily Apple One wholly in its entirety). Even though you may not live near San Mateo (I happen to live near Napa) contact him and maybe he can connect you with a highly related agent in an Apple One office near you? Or if your willing to go beyond your comfort zone and step outside the social barriers like I did, utilize David's tenacity and genuine desire to help you succeed. Give them a chance, what do you have to lose? How worse could driving a little further be than not working at all? read more

I really wanted to like this place because the staff is great and I had a pretty good experience in 2011. The representative I worked with last year was super helpful and tried to cater to the type of job I was looking for. She contacted me just two days after our initial interview. And although I did not get the job she found for me, she contacted me again the following week for another position. It just so happened that at the time, I was hired for a job that I applied for on my own. However, I greatly appreciated the effort and communication she provided for me. I thought I'd try AppleOne again after being unemployed for a few months, so I looked up my login information for the online site. As soon as I logged on, I inputted my availability and requested for an interview. 8/31/12 - I went in for my interview. The receptionist was professional and nice, but I didn't recognize anyone from when I was there last year. I found out that the representative that I was working with last year no longer worked for the company. The receptionist asked me for two forms of ID. I get it...employers usually ask for two forms of ID when they get hired. But my concerns were: 1) I gave them a copy of my ID a year ago...what did they do with my file? 2) I have never been asked for my SS card during an interview unless I'm hired on the spot. 3) What did they do with my file from a year ago? Yes...I asked that question twice because that's private information that they take from applicants. 4) The company also takes a voided check even before they find employment for you. That really bothers me for privacy reasons. Anyway, I was interviewed by a woman who was very personable, and asked a lot of questions about me. It seemed like she really wanted to get to know me, and what my strengths and weaknesses were. Again...that is another reason I wanted to like this place. 9/7/12 - I sent a follow up email to the representative that interviewed me. I simply wanted to touch base and see if there was anything else I needed to do to expedite the process. Today (9/30/12), I still get no response...not even an acknowledgement to the email I sent. I purposefully waited a month to write this review to see if I would get any results in between. But nope....nada, nothing, zip, zilch. I know that she checked in with my references because my references contacted me. But why haven't I got a call or email from the recruiter? Very strange. Anyhow...I will definitely take the advice she gave me on the day of my interview and go to other recruiting agencies. I may get better results. Or better yet...I may get a response. read more

I almost didn't write a review for these folks, as I try not to write negative reviews. I even gave my self some time..but this is too glaringly off not to warn people. First off, who wants to go to an employment services company that sponges off another companies' logo? That should have been my first clue. I spent a small amount of time there at the office, but it was enough time to master the obvious. First, the Receptionist/Intake person is a VeryImportantPerson, seriously. She lets you know this right away, and She Is In Charge, not you. She is classy enough to let you know through not so subtle hints and non verbal communication that if you cross her in any way, you are screwed. This goes for on the phone as well. As I sat there, in the waiting room being iced ( I made the horrendous mistake of saying I had been through the process a few times and was familiar with it- not recommended)..I was privy to the judgmental comments of Ms. Power-trip as she got off the phone with potential clients. Her office mates chimed in on occassion..making it one big free for all- criticizing clients for their lack of skills, wardrobe, etc. For a company that needs to be superior to make up for the cheesy logo, office, location et al, they failed miserably. I have worked with headhunters a few times in the past, and had outstanding, seamless service. This is not them. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, Ms Power-Trip stooped to an all time low, which I wont discuss here. She has had her fifteen seconds of fame. I hightailed it out of there. I am an established professional, capable of bringing in a six figure salary..and I took my talents, my interviewing skills and yes, my resume' elsewhere. Life is too short, and there are far too many GOOD employment services to tolerate this treatment. I'm very happy with my current situation. I managed to find an excellent position and employment package without Apple One's services. Incidentally, I encountered another young lady in the elevator that remarked on the receptionist's 'warm' reception. Apparently..she was having an off day. I'm sorry if there are some truly professional folks in this office. I didn't encounter them. Oh, and one more thing..how does a review from 2011 make it to the top of the critiques, just above the review dated 2012? I sense some review burying here. Not a good sign. read more

I was so surprised with the lack of organization with this place. They were able to find me a job in about a week or two, which was alright, but my account executive was so witchy, talking to me like she was lecturing me. One day, I had an emergency and couldn't make it for work one day, so I followed their procedures: call my account executive, then call the employer. I was able to contact my employer and let them know I wouldn't be able to make it, but no one at the apple one office answered the phone, so I left a message. I even called my person and left a message, and no one ever got back to me. I've called a couple times and the either never pick up or don't get back to you. I was quite annoyed with this place as they never got back to me with an assignment after that incident. I will never go through this place again. read more

um, not sure why there are 4 listings... but either way... the lady i worked with was *super* friendly (in a questionable way). I sort of suspected her of fishing for other leads through me. she asked me all coyly who else I had applied with and I could see her little mind working overtime. and then she would ask me questions like how I heard of such positions, etc. but suspicions aside, I did not have any leads with this agency. they seemed to only want to find me a job in my city of residence. and since there were none, I didnt hear from them? and I was open to working downtown, etc... but I'm not sure if the san mateo office only dealt with the peninsula?! either way, it would have been nice to have been informed of such things. needless to say, no leads, no jobs... *shrug* I think many times experiences at placement agencies are hit or miss, but i'm sorry to say that my experience here was a miss. Tips when going to placement agencies: * bring a copy of your resume (even if you already emailed it) * bring two forms of ID like a driver's license & SS card * be prepared to fill out paper work like w2's, direct depost forms * bring any info (past addresses for background checks and references) * be prepared to take tests in things like Excel, Word and Powerpoint * if you apply online and get a confirmation email only, call they agency, it doesnt hurt! p.s. their website is the same for SF & San Mateo. If you have a 650 (or non 415) area code/address the site might automatically place you in the data base for the San Mateo office. Either way, follow up after you place an application online, or better yet, contact the office direct for an initial interview. read more

I went into Apple One after being unemployed for two years. I got a lot of "bites" but had no luck closing the deal on finding myself permanent work. My final resort was to go to a temp agency. When I went into Apple One, I was immediately set up with Susan Lopez-Guerra. We discussed about my previous work and I told her how hard of a time I had finding myself work. She immediately reassured me that it had nothing to do with myself or my personality, it was just that I had a big gap in my resume and most likely was going up against some people who had little or no gap. She set me up with an assignment within 3 days and I stayed at that assignment for 7 months. The only reason I am no longer with the assignment is because I did end up finding permanent work, which proved Susan was right when she had told me all I had to do was fill in the gap in my resume. I could not have asked for a better experience! Lisa Souther was my agent from the beginning and I'm now working for a great company permanently. I just got out of college and after submitting resume after resume to places I wasn't even sure I would like, I took my mother's advice and friend's recommendation, and signed up with AppleOne. The same day I finished my paperwork, I received a call with an assignment for the next day! I know it doesn't always work out that way all the time, but the fact that it happened at all makes it that more impressive she found me a temporary position so quickly.
