Today was a lunch day at Applebees for my family and I. We haven't eaten at this establishment in a long time due to the food not being super good. This was our first time to this restaurant in Portsmouth. The food was delicious not wow but very good. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very kind and always stoped by to check on us. The place itself was clean but sticky floors. Not too busy with an open atmosphere. Overall rating 3.5 could be better and could've been worse but it wasn't. Would we come back? Maybe but if it was a last resort like it was for us today due to circumstances. read more

Visited at lunch on a Friday. Ordered chicken taco appetizer and a grilled chicken Caesar salad. The tacos were good. However, the salad was swimming in a bland, milky dressing, the chicken was questionable, and the lettuce was warm and limp. The bartender barely spoke to us. We were not offered refills. The thing with Applebee's is you have to know what you are getting into. It isn't going to blow your socks off and it's as classy as Walmart on Black Friday, but during certain times of particular days there are menu items that just can't be beat (e.g. wings during half-price appetizers). The biggest downside of Applebee's, in my opinion, is their ever-changing menu -- every time I order nachos they are different. For that alone I had to subtract a star. read more

What a horrible experience! I would leave zero stars if possible. Starting with the hostess. Very rude but only had to wait 10 minutes for a seat. Once seated we were told to scan menu. But service inside was bad so we couldn't download the menu. The waitress reluctantly brought us menus. Then we proceeded to sit there for 20 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. My wife and I decided to visit this restaurant to reminisce as we had gone there with my brother a few tears ago. What a mistake. We were seated at a table that had been poorly cleaned anf was sticky. It took forever to have a server stoo at our table. My wife have caesar salad that had icebhrg lettuce and packaged dressing. She had tomato basil soup that was weak and tasted like it came from a generic canned doup. I had a burger with frie. The burger was well well done, didn't fill the small bun and was cild. The fries were rather skimoy for an order and both came on small plates. Our orders were nkthing like we remembered. The waitress hardly ever stopped by to refill drinks. Then when I asked abkut the seniir discount it was applied to only one of our orders and only the burger. We will never return to this place and now understand why Applebees is struggling. Applebee's managed to do it again. And by it. I mean fuck shit up. My server was amazing and nice and funny. I ordered mashed potatoes and they came out like soup. Literally took up half my plate. I tried to use my knife to just get them off my plate but it was a sloppy disgusting mess. Luckily I got breadsticks and was able to use that to get it off my plate so I could eat my other food. Idk how anyone in that kitchen scooped that up and plated it and threw some parsley on there and thought "fuck yeah someone's gonna love this." I should have went to my work for lunch but considering I work later I decided to eat at Applebee's. But I know I would have gotten quality food at my work place. While I know that staffing is low and that we all must be patient during this pandemic there is no excuse for food to be packed in such a careless manner...Won Ton Tacos are one of my favorite appetizers and I was highly looking forward to eating them. Don't waste your money on car side pickup. They can't be bothered to check if your there if you are not lucky enough to get one of the two spots directly in front of the door. Even if you text through the app service multiple times to let them know you are in fact there. Waited twenty minutes for someone to come out, never did, went inside waited another 10 minutes for someone to actually attempt to ask me if I needed help. Finally got the food thirty minutes after it was supposed to be ready. The young woman's excuse is she didn't see my car there. Well that's a lame excuse for poor service. Food was terrible! Very disappointed in the food I ordered. Honey peppered chicken tenders with Mac and cheese. The tenders (3) were so small i could barely see them. $15.99 for this entree. Two of the tenders were no longer than a piece of the pasta. They were dry and hard. Looked and tasted like there was no honey pepper on them. This was a takeout order. If I would have been there I would have sent it back. First time I got this dish it was great. Each time after the chicken tenders get smaller with less taste. read more

I keep hoping! I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions. I keep thinking they will eventually get it right. Unfortunately, the last visit was an added disappointment. In the past the food was okay but the service has been sub-par especially the speed of the kitchen. The last visit the service was superb, yet the food was awful. The spinach and artichoke appetizer was all right and the beer was very cold and thirst quenching (on a hot, humid night), but the steaks for our meals were not worthy. We ordered both medium; one came well-done and the other one raw. Neither of us finished our meals. I'm not sure I will return. How many chances can you give one restaurant (even though it is located in a very convenient location)? read more

Service was great. Food came out cold and took forever. Steak was basically raw. My GF got a 6 ounce that was probably a 2 ounce and charged 13 for it. At least hers was cooked. It almost seemed like the cooks quit. Not worth 53 dollars. But the chicken wonton tacos are still the best thing here. read more

My family have been waiting at our table for over 40 minutes and still haven't got our food. Because of the coronavirus there is limited tables but this place can be cleaned better. They have tables that need cleaned and ppl outside waiting to come in. The waiters are not in any rush to clean the tables. I hope they are just having a bad day. If I could give less than one star, I would. Sat down with my son. Ordered two waters, an order of wings and fiesta lime chicken. In about 15 minutes, his wings came out. Even though I had to rob silverware from a neighboring table, nothing too bad happened as of yet. I sat in my booth for 47 minutes and my chicken never came. I went to the front and found the hostess that seated us. I asked to see a manager, a manager never came. The hostess came and offered to make my chicken right away. I politely declined. They brought my chicken anyway. The hostess, still not the manager, said that the chicken was 'on the house'. Thanks for the favor. I'm not touching the chicken. It can sit there. My brother inlaw and I took our mothers, my wife and their grandma out for dinner for mothers day. Absolute worst service I've ever seen out of the New Boston Applebee's, we were seated by 5:00 ordered within 15 minutes and it was after 6 before our appetizers came out, and almost 7 before they decided to only serve half the table at which point they brought food to everyone except myself and my mother, our waitress disappeared when I asked why and after complaining for 20 minutes a waitress from another section finally went to see what was going on with our order, everyone at the table was almost finished eating before we got our plates and our food was cold like it had been sitting there all along being skipped over, we told them more than once that the bill was to be split in half because I was paying for half and my brother inlaw was paying half but they put it all on one bill anyway and acted like it was a major inconvenience that we wanted them to go back and split the bill the way we wanted it, I understand that restaurants get busy but that is absolutely no excuse for incompetence, I really feel like we made a huge mistake going there for a mothers day dinner and next time will go somewhere that our mothers will better enjoy their time. My husband have ate at Applebees many times and usually always called for carry out. Many, many times our order was excellent, but this last time when we ordered baby back ribs they had no meat what so ever on them. Only bones with a lot of barbecue sauce on them. We order Curb Side about once a week. The quality of food is just as good as going inside to dine. The chicken breast are some of the biggest I've seen in a restaurant. I get the margarita queso chicken...it is AMAZING!! Promise you will not go wrong ordering this!! (If you like spicy food) It's not super spicy, but just enough to give it a kick. Don't bother. Apparently the reason that the service is consistently horrible is because they can't keep employees long enough because they are constantly begging for help on indeed. My wife and I went to applebees the other night for our anniversary. They got us into a table fast enough but it took them the better part of a half hour to get our food, and even then my wifes steak was undercooked. The manager was rude and steak came back out in less than two minutes and it was bland and tough like it had been microwaved. We will not be coming back. read more

I have been to this establishment several times and for the majority of my visits it has been a disappointment in regards to both the quality of food and service. On my last attempt at this location it took over an hour and half to get a burger which upon arrival was overcook (tasted like charred toast) and not the burger I ordered. Gratefully they did not charge me for the burger but for a total meal that would cost over 20 dollars you are better off to go elsewhere.
