We came here to sign up my son for school when we moved from Columbus in the middle of the school year. They were already really helpful on the phone and have a great website, but in person even better. We filled out all the forms and he got to start the next day! I was told some of the schools were too full and they don't always get the closest school but they managed to place my son in a good school about 5 minutes from home. I don't know what "proudly" means to this office. The most rude, entitled people we have ever dealt with. These people must not be important at home that they feel the need to mistreat the community while trying to enroll students so they can feel that have some type of authority in their life. Well, where to start...Tonight was the regular Meeting to (supposedly) hear from Parents their concerns about Vaccine Mandates, and also Mask Mandates. This was not scheduled but the community being outraged at the State Government's overreach and deprivation of rights of the Citizens and Residents of California-but when it comes to their Children being mandated to take Vaccines and wear masks whether they have been Vaccinated or not, Parents have HAD ENOUGH. When you mess with someones Family things get Personal REAL QUICK.'WE The PEOPLE' Remember-We pay the Property Taxes-So, WE PAY THEIR SALARIES. SO WE SHALL HAVE A SAY WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT, YOU DO NOT MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT THE HEALTH OR WELL BEING OF OUR CHILDREN. PARENTS AND GOD DO THAT. The Board of Apple Valley Unified School District decided last minute to have the meeting in a small room with a capacity of ONLY 50 people, 300 showed up Tonight 10-7-2021. The Board usually has it in the Auditorium, which has a capacity of over 250 people which could have accommodated all the People that attended. 1 star off for that. They KNEW and did it on Purpose to Limit the amount of Speakers that could be heard at 3 minutes each and limit it to . They said only 20 minutes of Speakers would be heard, that work out to 20/3 = 6.66 speakers. 1 more star off for being banal and ambivalent to the amount of people that came. They made these limitations/restrictions after what happened at the Hesperia School Board council meeting on Oct. 4, 2021 (monday). The Hesperia board went from 5pm to 12am (midnight). Apparently AVUSD board values their sleep more than the opinion of Residents of the Community and Parents that ARE ENROLLED IN THEIR DISTRICT. Then seemingly on purpose or with Willful Negligence-their sound system and podium microphones could not be heard by the Parents and Residents in attendance in the Auditorium for overflow where a Video screen was setup on the stage (where the AVUSD Board usually holds these meetings) and the P.A. system had a glitch that produced the audio with a very short delay where even single words could not be made out. The "Media" Technician could not remedy this "Glitch" for more than 2 hours...Another Star for that. When I identified myself as an Audio Professional (certificated) with over 3 decades of experience to the School Police officers-they only smirked and laughed like I was another "crazy" as Residents and Parents are now being referred to by School Board Council members in the High Desert. I offered my services which are not cheap for free to these "Custodians" and they willfully disregarded my pleas to Volunteer for the People to hear the AVUSD Council and the Concerned Citizens, Residents and Parents that came to hear the Speakers. Another Star off for that. There was Not one bit of Concern that People could not hear the Speakers nor that a concerned citizen offered His Services for FREE to the Public for the good of this Meeting, the Board and especially the Parents to be able to hear the Rightful Concerns of other Parents who might of had Information that they would have liked to hear. But, We'll Never Know...I think there will be some Changes to the AVUSD school board's make up come the 2022 elections and Possibly the ENTIRE Town Council of Apple Valley. If these Elected and Appointed Officials FAIL to Stand Up to the Tyrannical overreach of "King" Governor Newsom, the FAILED San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors and the Illegitimate President Biden by deeming these proposed Vaccine "Mandates" OK to enforce on Students-than the Children of this County will be Victimized by an Uncaring School Board or their Parents will pull them out of Schools, Close their Businesses and/or quit their Jobs and MOVE TO ANOTHER STATE THAT DOES NOT CONSIDER IT'S RESIDENTS 'SUBJECTS' TO BE DISPOSED OF AS THESE AUTHORITARIAN "representatives" PLEASE. read more

What to say? This is where my mom has worked for over 20 years (first at Yucca Loma Elementary, next at Rio Vista Elementary). This is where I received my education through high school. I also worked for AVUSD as an after school program aide for about a year. Sure, there is always some controversy in a school district. Redistricting for elementary and high schools always causes drama. And we all have heard the story about that one superintendent (okay, so there was more than one...). But whatever... I dig it. I thought this school was distinguished, but my son has bee humiliated by his male teacher to the point of begging and pleading to never go there again.there is very little classroom control, except for isolation and taking away exercise time. Nothing positive, just a burned out negative, rude teacher with personal vendettas against the kids who need positive role models. My son has been above grade level his entire life, but here he is depressed, unmotivated, and cries daily not wanting to go sit in the corner and do independent study work in the classroom alone. Rio Vista Elementary teachers have been very good with my children but the office staff is very discriminating they go by your appearance and that's how you get treated, the assistant principal Renee Castillo is very loud and when she has a problem she will confront you in front of everyone including other parents and in front of your children she traumatized my children by saying in front of everyone that if I am 5 minutes late from picking my kids up after school that its considered abandoning them and she will call the police... while the whole staff and other parents were laughing at the situation. So now my children ask me if i am late if the police will take them. Then today my daughter was throwing up at the school and the nurse let her sit in it and she had throw up all over her face and dripping off her hair for 20 minutes until I got there to clean her then I asked the nurse for a rubber band for her hair, she said she didn't have any, then she found 1 skinny one after I questioned her, then I asked for loaner clothes saying I will return them and the nurse was very agitated, the whole staff was watching with dirty looks and comments including the vice principal. these people are sooo cold hearted, its sad I've never seen a school office staff that was this bad. My oldest child is 22 years old and youngest is 8 years old and this staff just makes me wonder if I should keep them at this school I feel horrible for my children. read more
