Great general sore to find trinkets for your house or kitchen! I loved the spice room and all the pre made mixes. Ended up buying a "MaMa" hat and a sticker. This seems like the kind of store that every time you visit you may find a totally different section. The quilt room was pretty impressive as well. At the counter the ladies were extremely friendly and loved on our little baby. The were selling fudge and what looked like hot roasted nuts. read more

This is an enormous building with both a restaurant and a large gift/candy shop. The two entities are in two separated spaces, so we didn't get a smell of bacon and pancakes while we shopped next door, but we did get a whiff of the many candles, body goods, warm candied nuts and hand pies. This shop is a tad cluttered and overwhelming but if you have the time and patience to weave through the tight spaces, you will absolutely find something fun and fabulous. There seemed to be sections of body/beauty, hats and clothing, a flag and decor area, an area with canned/bottled goodies and dip mixes, nostalgic candy, a counter with fudges, hand pies, ice cream, and candied nuts, a section with books and toys and many (MANY!) gift ideas and Smoky Mountain souvenirs. We also loved that the local Dancing Bean Coffee sells beans in bulk here. We have been using the Turtle flavor daily the last few days and love how smooth and subtle the flavor is, not overpoweringly sweet like many flavored coffees. The service was amazing-patient, prompt, and friendly. The candied pecans are the best I've ever had. They have been wonderful on salads and on a charcuterie board since I brought them home. The pricing wasn't extremely high either! For the fudge, ice cream, book, coffee, candy, popcorn seasoning, and nuts we purchased, I think we spend around $30. Not too shabby! read more

If you are visiting an area that's built around and supports tourism you'd expect to see these types of retail businesses and probably be disappointed if they didn't exist - this particular business has a little bit of everything so there's was no doubt there will always be things that will amaze you and things that make you smirk and shake your head and believe me there's plenty of all that here. The definition of a village can vary: "a small community or group of houses in a rural area, larger than a hamlet and usually smaller than a town" so I guess the name is fitting although I was hoping it would be bigger and include more cultural venues that included everything local to the area, I guess they did somewhat succeed in providing a snapshot of the area with some local crafts, and reproductions of souvenirs that depict the attractions of what people are doing in and around this part of the country, so believe me when I say there's no shortage of refrigeration magnets, keychains, yard flags, wind chimes and canned goods, everything I listed doesn't really do the inventory justice but hopefully portrays the leitmotif. The staff was very friendly, not overly attentive by any means but they were available to answer any questions or to serve you up one of the many treats available for sale. The best selection of house flags and garden flags in the country store! Delightful, crisp, homemade fried apple pies in both the country store and the cafe!! (I want another one - NOW!) Souvenirs/Gifts and Store-Branded Products such as Apple Butter, Jams, Cooking Oils, etc. There is also a small shop with lots of quilts and home decor items. Every time I visit my parents in East Tennessee I always have to go to Apple Valley. They have the best selection of jellies and jams I've ever seen and a huge candy section. They also have a lot of Smoky Mountain branded memorabilia and area history related items as well. But I absolutely love their homemade jellies and jams and syrups, their pancake syrup is THE best you'll ever come across and worth the trip to Townsend alone. There are a lot of fun and tasty things in the store, but there are also plenty of toys for kids and big kids too, plenty of shirts and knickknacks. Just about anything you want. You could spend a good hour just searching through the food side of the store. Love this place. read more

The hamburger was so delicious. The location was so remote but vegetables, pâté and bread are so fresh and taste great.

I have been stopping here every year with my family, for I don't know how long! We come down to the Smoky Mountains almost every summer, so this is a favorite spot. My parents LOVE their coffee and always stock up before heading home. The gifts as well as the canned goods, homemade fudge and variety of options are great! We used to always stop at the cafe to grab an apple dumpling, which is delicious! This year we ate lunch at the cafe and were not disappointed. We finished it with a fried apple pie with ice cream. Definitely worth the trip! read more

Updated: 7/5/16: Order the same entry (Chicken Salad Sandwich). Other than the 40 min wait for a cold sandwich on a Tues @ 2:30p. The meal was much better. It was served chilled and tasted much better than my first experience. I still don't understand the wait times. Management did offer me a free piece of pie due to long wait. Thank you! Food is glorified grocery store fare. Who in their right mind puts a chicken salad sandwich under heat lamps? Apple Valley Cafe that's who. Disgusting! Bring your own bottle of water. They charge $2.00 for a 16oz of bottled water. Some of the younger staff need to develop critical thinking skills. Sad! read more

Waiters were rude. Three menus were laying on the counter, two of which are different colors, and my wife simply asked if they were the same and waiter smarted off sarcastically saying they only had one menu. We didn't know, we had never been there before. You order at the counter instead of waiters coming to your table and the gentleman behind us didn't realize this and asked what they were supposed to do. Waitress responded by telling him the sign was on the door. Needless to say he and his wife left. As far as the food goes, it wasn't bad. The Smokey Mountain Gumbo was good thus the reason for 2 stars. Service really ruined the experience and it was a little pricey for the amount of food received. read more

The service was decent. One person in our group got his lunch at least 15 minutes after the rest of us. The food was okay at best. The special was chicken and dumplings straight from a can. It was served on styrofoam plates. The chicken tenders were pretty good... for frozen food. Even the fried apple pie that they are known for was a rubbery crust filled with canned apple pie filling. It is marketed as a country kitchen, but is more like a theme park cafe. There are several locally owned, good places to eat in the area. Save your money and appetite for one of those. read more

We ate here for lunch after exploring the smokies a little during vacation. Everyone working in there was super friendly. Everything we ordered was good. The best part was the baked goods we took with us to go. They are all baked fresh there. We bought a raspberry bar (my favorite!!), a slice of chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting (which had a taste and consistency similar to Susie cakes peanut butter frosting), and an eclair type thing. Perfectly positioned with great visibility on Lamar Alexander Pkwy, this is a quaint little country store with a pleasant atmosphere and tasty food. The outdoor seating area is perfect as it is shaded and spacious. There happened to be a live band when I was there eating with friends and family. The band asked if anyone wanted to sing along with them or had a song request. My dad and I ended up singing with the band and we had a blast. The band's country tunes paired well with the delicious BBQ sandwich & cool craft beer following a day full of activity in the Smokies. The wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Both of the shops attached to the cafe offer a wide array of souvenirs and Apple Valley classics. The coffee, delicious jams, and popcorn kernels were some of my favorite purchases so far. I will definitely be back here on my next visit to East Tennessee. read more
