Buyers premiums are fair / and unlike alot of other auction houses / shipping is available for most items. With Appletree's help I have been able to add many pieces to collections I would have otherwise not had the opportunity to acquire. read more

AppleTree used to be a top notch auction house but something had changed the last year or so. Their new policy of requiring items to be picked up the day after the auction ends is complete garbage. They'll ban you from future bidding if you don't oblige so don't be out of town when you bid on something! read more

Buyer beware. You will not always get what you bid on when you are the highest bider when the auction closes. I placed a bid on 3 different items and was the highest bidder when the auction closed. Somehow, I wasn't the winner. Every other auction that means you won. I had screenshots of this and called, emailed, and went in person. They told me there were "glitches" and auction was over and nothing they could or would do. read more

I have been in the Antique & Collectable business for over 35 years and I have never had a problem as bad as this Auction House. Why would anyone sell you an item that requires next day pickup, and NO SHIPPING, when they are based in Ohio, and the customer lives in California. I didn't notice it but in the disclaimer they go over alot commisions an such. On page three they have two full paragraphs on SHIPPING,. They go into detail on how shipping takes 5-7 business days an lists the companies, Shipping saints and or work with Joe direct at UPS!! Sorry Joe No Go! But if you think after all that, farther down the page, you see the 5 words that you sorry you didn't see. Pick-ups only NO SHIPPING! WHY, is Apple Auction Center accepting bids from California, when they require next day pick-up, and if you don't your items is deemed abandoned and God knows where it goes . I was told by Invaluable Auctions, a really big company that I have dealt with for years and never a problem, that companies that don't deliver, pick-up only normally don't take bids from out of state. BID elsewhere! Absolute CRAZY shipping charges.....they take your card number FIRST - then you are at their mercy. I put in bids on a number of items through the day, including an artwork and a mahogany dining suite, which I picked up for next to nothing - I was elated! Afterwards I went through the list to see how much I'd spent for the day - and both items were missing, with the company's computer-generated system claiming I'd missed out. That's a flat-out lie - in each case I monitored the bidding, ready to pull the trigger if someone outbid me, especially on the dining suite, which was a heart-in-mouth situation as I couldn't believe the bidding was so low and kept thinking others would jump in and take the bidding higher - I was over the moon when I got it! As with every bid, I automatically looked at the scrolling bar at the bottom to confirm I'd won, and even clicked on the page itself afterwards where there was a notification stating I was the winner. Yet afterwards, poof, they were both gone! My wife, who was bidding in another room for herself, came in to celebrate my getting the dining suite and can confirm that the screen showed I'd won. We had such a good day with this auction and had such a nice time following the whole thing, and of course I was on cloud nine over the dining suite. Now the whole day has been ruined for us, and I feel cheated and completely deflated. Their system was completely screwy all day, with a video stream that was constantly blocky and freezing, a point the auctioneers acknowledged a few times, and there were a number of instances where I put bids in with plenty of time, saw them confirmed, only to have them not register with the bidding - as a result I missed out on at least half a dozen items today. That's why I'm so certain on the two items in question, because I'd gotten into the nervous routine of checking and double checking everything to see if I'd won or not. Either there was something desperately wrong with their system today, or they screw with the bidding process for their own reasons. I can't even begin to describe how depressed I feel over the whole matter, and can only suggest to anyone else using this auction site to take screen captures of everything and/or record a video stream of the whole process. I have been buying and selling here for years. There are trends, even in antiques. You may have paid a lot for your antique years ago and now that you want to sell it, it's worth less. Don't blame the auction house. Some of the negative comments just don't ring true. That's what I hate about yelp. The business being maligned has no representation. The owner convinced me that his general auction was better than a collectable auction. I am embarrassed to tell my family what a disaster this turned out to be. HIs so called showcase of items turned out to be one bidder as everyone else went home as the showcase was at the end of the auction. The auctioneer appeared to be fresh out of a online auctioneer school. If you have something that you think is collectable you might want to look elsewhere. read more

They are a bunch of lying, deceitful people. I put a bid on an item and there wasn't much interest in it. I was the lead bidder then the little twerp auctioneer says "I'm not selling it for that price" and moves onto the next item. There was no mention anywhere in the auction listing of a reserve (because there wasn't) not to mention that when you bid on an item with a reserve that's not met it tells you the reserve was not met. Avoid these miserable people at all costs. read more

I took many antiques and collectibles here to sell. We received very little money from the items and we felt the antiques were worth more than we received. Two of the items did not sell and when asked what happened to them, the desk employee said the auction house throws them away! Poor business practice, since I would have gone and picked them up if I had been given that opportunity. If you just want to get rid of stuff and not make much money, then this is the place to go. I would suggest you choose another venue to sell items if you want a fair price for your items. We will never use Apple Tree again. Very disappointing experience with this auction house. read more

This auction house completely lied to me about an all-terrain vehicle I purchased. They edited the photo to make it look like it was in decent condition. When it was delivered to me, it was a complete piece of junk. 100% misleading and scammed for over $1000 for the machine and delivery. Will never purchase from them again read more

Received notification of auction through Invaluable. Spent a lot of time going over the items and decided to place some bids. The bids said pending, so I applied for approval to bid. About a week goes by and I get a reminder that the auction is today. So I log in and my bids are still showing pending, and the items are selling for less than what I bid! I've dealt with this company before so WTH? Turns out that they are not accepting International bidders for this auction. Funny, didn't say that in the Terms & Conditions and it's small stuff, not hard to ship. So the consignors just got jipped out of higher prices because this company can't be bothered to ship to Canada or elsewhere. Pretty micky mouse if you ask me. Why go on international sites like Invaluable or Live Auctioneers if you don't ship internationally? Shows their lack of concern for people when they can't be bothered to notify potential bidders, until they are contacted by those bidders on the day of the auction. Glad it wasn't my goods that got sold for next to nothing. read more

It was a long way from home....and worth it. No hassle operation for me; walk in, register to bid, check out items, have a spot to eat and join the bidders! Easy ... won a couple of great items, stayed 'till the end of the auction, paid (13% buyers' premium, which BTW is great) and headed home. Now, about pickup, called .... no one answered, recording .... called again, same deal. Called again...... Still waiting for callback.... during business hours. I have recently purchased a 1974 Chrysler car from their auction. I paid freight to ship it to New York. When the car arrived, it looked like it was under water. All rust, mildew & spores in the car. The motor is seized. I have been a phone bidder and the owners daughter did not disclose anything was wrong with the car. I just called and spoke to the owner Sam and he said that he would not refund my money. This is a bad company with bad business practices. I will look to sue them in small claims court. read more

We bought items from 3 different auctions and in every auction we had pieces that were severely damaged. We went to the preview of the second auction to ensure the items were not damaged only to find out when we picked the items up a piece had a large chip out of it. We believe it was broken while waiting for pickup. They do not take care to carefully place items in boxes. Items get tossed around regardless of their fragility. The Apple Tree representative was very polite and after we explained the issue they gave us a partial refund. Because of the way they tried to resolve the issue we decided to try them one last time. We didn't have any luck. This time we did not preview so we knew that it was a possibility of getting a bad item. We did. The picture they use did not show the damage and the damage is so bad that anyone should have easily noticed it and annotated it on the auction. We understand the 'As Is' clause but items that are clearly damaged but not pictured as such should be noted in the item description. If you are going to risk using this auction company then make sure to preview and take digital pictures of your items. If you are thinking about bidding online without going to the preview then I would suggest not doing so or at the minimum making sure you take into account item damage when you bid. read more

Note to on-line bidders...Please read the fine print. There is a 20% "premium" added to your total bid - plus - a fee to put what ever in a box and then shipping costs. Shipping costs I get, but a 20% junk fee is absurd and makes the whole auction experience a bad one! First and last time using your auction house. We entrusted Apple Tree Auction Center with over $500,000 worth of high-end furniture and household goods because we were moving out of state. The company represented itself as an ethical family operation with a good reputation who could get top dollar for the type of contemporary furnishings we wanted to sell. We were disarmed by the charming, affable family members and we gave them our complete trust. We received less than $2,000 in compensation after the sale, and they were not forthcoming until we demanded they give us an accounting! Example: a $75,000 huge leather couch group just like new sold for $35. An $18,000 baby grand piano in pristine condition sold for $350. A $1,200 beautiful mirror sold for $5. The list goes on and on! We were told by a friend who was watching the auction that it lasted less than 24 hours online; normal auctions last at least 7 days. Their costs for removing our stuff were twice as much as the compensation we received! The laborers who carried our lifetime of goods to the truck made more than we did! We believe this is a total and complete scam and ripoff and we are reporting this company to the Attorney General of Ohio. We believe we have been victimized by some very slick scam artists. We give them the lowest rating possible! read more

I contacted Apple Tree to liquidate a business. The couple that owns the company came out to meet me at the establishment and I let them know up front that I was unfamiliar with the auction process. I found them to be quite unfriendly (somewhat snobby) and uninterested in taking any of the items. I presume that they know what they are doing and are looking to make the most profit that they can which is understandable; however, they were super awkward and borderline rude (especially the female). Bottom line, if you aren't already familiar with the auction business and don't have antiques/top dollar items to offer, then I would recommend not using this company. read more

We love their periodic rug auctions. Have purchased many rugs and learned a great deal about Oriental carpets. Family members have sold estate items through them and been treated fairly. If you want to buy or sell unique items in a friendly atmosphere, this is the place. read more

Today I received a check for $823.00 From Appletree Auction Center located in Newark Ohio. The value of the antiques that they picked up from my house was in excess of $10,000. The large pieces were purchased in New Orleans 25 to 30 years ago and were very fine quality and one of a kind. They sold my 19th century French pearwood armoire purchased for $5,000 for$300. They sold my Walnut ornately carved Victorian armoire purchased for $2500 for $400 and a very fine 19th century Victorian secretary costing $1500 for $250. The check was for all three items minus expenses. I spoke with Sam Schanaidt prior the pickup and mentioned that I could not be present for the actual auction due to work obligations. He never once mentioned placing a reserve on the items or that he would dump them for so little .The website never posted pictures or descriptions of the antiques .I checked this frequently prior to the auction date and questioned how well if at all, l the items were displayed to the public. I feel that I was cheated and that no attempt to represent my interests was made by the auctioneer.This is assuming the pieces were even auctioned. I must also entertain the possibility that they have somehow moved the pieces in a manner that was possibly criminal. Clearly these are people that I will never again place my trust in. In fact, I will be visiting them personally and possibly reporting this to the Newark police and the better business bureau. Realistically, there is probably little that can be done to hold them responsible. read more

I've been an Apple Tree auction addict for years & really look forward to their antique, doll & household auctions. They have specialty auctions in several other categories too like oriental rugs & safe deposit boxes but they aren't of great interest to me. I love the owners & most of the staff . I always find them to be very friendly & helpful. The buildings are nice & clean & the auctions are generally HUGE with lots of goodies I can't resist & believe me, I TRY To Resist!!. There is a 10% buyer's premium which is becoming commonplace in auction houses unfortunately. Selling commissions are on a sliding scale according to final bid from 10%- 50%, I think. It's a Great place to buy or sell high quality merchandise.Common items do OK. Don't try to sell your junk though; you'll be disappointed with the results. read more
