Had a party of 9 this past Sunday. What a great spot in Black Mountain. You order at the counter &…read morepay. Food is brought to your table. Cute coffee bar where you pick your own mug. Can refill as needed. The food was hot @ good! It got very crowded by noon. The star was the biscuits which were huge & delicious. They also have gluten free biscuits.

Would've been better if the food had arrived warmer. I know some people like to eat their food at…read moreroom temp, but just not my preference. In my experience, if eggs "over easy" are cooked at too high a temp the whites become leathery. I know some people like that leathery white thing, but just not my preference. And no, the eggs being room temp didn't offset being cooked in too hot oil. The biscuit was doughy (maybe just undercooked) but I was able to eat around the edges of it and the edges were actually tasty. Sure would've liked to have had a whole biscuit tho! I know some people like to eat their biscuits at room temp, but just not my preference. I prefer them hot, I think they taste better. A hot biscuit also helps to melt the butter and at the risk of sounding like a prima donna the cold little bricks of butter I tried and failed to spread on it became a bit of a turnoff. The home fries seemed undercooked but I was able to eat a few. Nothing really special about them, just seemed like a potato chopped up and pushed around in grease. I did like the jam/jelly selection, nicely done. Some may wonder why I didn't complain or send this back. I had an appointment down the road and wouldn't have made that considering the initial order took 12 minutes from payment to plate landing on the table, so a re-do would've been??? no idea how long. Sometimes it's better to just tough it out. It wasn't busy, there was no line to order, about 6-8 patrons total in the restaurant. I was surprised at the wait, but part of that was my order getting crossed with someone else. The other guy who first got my plate shouted over to me that he didn't sneeze on my food, so that was nice.

Decided to stop in this place after seeing it a few times. The PEOPLE were so nice and friendly. I…read moredon't know that we've been consistently checked in on like this in a very long time. They had what appeared to be a very impressive brunch buffet that we will be trying in the future. I had the Fried Chicken (of course), Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned with the meat staying juicy, just as it should be. The mashed potatoes were chunky and delicious, just like mom used to make them. The collard greens though. Oh Lordy those were so damn good. I could have eaten a bucket of them. My hubby had the Chicago Beef Sandwich and loved it. He also said the fries were over the top great! We will definitely be going back for more!

A Hidden Gem for Great Food and Memorable Moments!…read more I can't say enough good things about McCllean's at Monarch Café! Every dish I've had, whether breakfast, brunch, or something for a special occasion, has been consistently fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The quality is always on point, and the customer service is exceptional. The staff is attentive, warm, and truly makes you feel like a valued guest. One of the highlights for me was attending a surprise tea party birthday celebration there. The space is versatile and charming, you can use the indoor dining area, the covered patio, or both. The patio is perfect for small gatherings, tea parties, or even dancing if the occasion calls for it! I can easily imagine even a 360 photo booth fitting out there for a fun event setup. McCllean's truly offers the full experience: great food, great atmosphere, and great people. I'm already looking forward to returning for brunch after the 4th of July reopening! Highly recommend this spot whether you're planning a special event or just want to treat yourself to a delicious meal in a lovely setting.

Today I ordered one egg, one pancake, and French toast to go. When I walked in, the person ahead of…read moreme was paying their tab to leave and I wasn't greeted. After waiting, the cashier said "Hi," so I thought she was speaking to me, but she was actually answering the phone and took a full order before helping me. I also had to ask for a menu because one wasn't offered. Anywho, the restaurant felt extremely crowded with very little space between tables and walkways. Someone stepped on my foot, and another customer asked if I could give up my seat so their group could sit. The biggest issue was the packaging. My containers were placed upside down in the bag, and the butter inside the box had no lid, so it spilled everywhere and was already a mess when I opened the bag in my car. When I went back to notify the waitresses at the counter and ask for napkins, I was told the boxes were always packed upside down "on purpose," but that explanation didn't make sense since it caused the food to flip over and the butter to spill all over everything. (I have photos showing this). The food tasted good, but after everything I experienced, I won't be returning. For those curious about the cost, my receipt was $19.33 and after a $5 tip I paid $24.33 total.

We left wishing we would have gone to a waffle house or McDonalds so we wouldn't have the taste left in our mouth. Grits were a Worcestershire based sauce (nasty) and the corn beef tasted straight out of a can. I felt sorry for the locals that this was what they had to compare all others to. Someone please help bring better places for them to go to. And the prices weren't great either! Only thing going for this place was the nice staff.
