Exhibit of individual altars in memory of people.

This place is So Awesome. The outside is worth a walk or ride around the building to see the siding change colors subtly. There is sculpture in the parking lot too ( see photo) inside it's also quite nice. So much to borrow, peruse, study and enjoy. A cool exhibit and room to purchase various items for a wonderfully cheap price, such as musical tapes or book on tapes for trips, plus a variety of books for all ages and on an abundance of topics.

I like the wide aisles, easy to find genres, and bright light in this library. My kiddo always likes playing in the kids area, and there are great study rooms and several comfy chairs. This library is also always very clean and well maintained.

One of the first things I noticed was how spacious the library feels. Everything looked clean and well maintained, which made it a really comfortable place to settle in and focus. There was actually already a line of people waiting outside for the library to open at 1 PM on Sunday, which says a lot about how popular it is. One feature I thought was especially cool is their seed library, where you can pick up seeds to plant your own plants at home. They also offer the usual cultural passes, which is always a great perk with a library card. Speaking of that, I really liked how unique their library card designs are. I was able to sign up for a card today thanks to a very helpful staff member who made the process quick and easy. Inside, there were plenty of tables and outlets almost everywhere, which made it perfect for getting work done. There is also a free charging center where you can charge devices. Parking was also simple. I parked at the Scottsdale Civic Center Garage, which made access really convenient. Overall, I was very happy with my visit today and will definitely be coming back.

There was live music, the architect spoke explaining the light and architecture at work for the special hour (12-1). It was beautiful and fascinating to witness. There was also a demonstration of the Washington Printing Press in the Rare Book Room with a special print that day created by library staff. There was also a limited tshirt that day at the Friends Bookstore with a print from the printing press designed by library staff. Every day here is a special day, but today was an extra special day. Staff is always ready to help, is friendly, and is very knowledgeable - whether it's Adult Services Staff, Youth Services Staff, Circulation Staff, or Municipal Security; everyone is here to help make your experience incredible. There's a first floor with an art gallery, the children's area, the adult fiction area, the checkout area, the accounts desk, the security desk, and the auditorium. The second floor has the computer, printing, faxing, copying, and scanning area, the business area, the arizona room, workforce area, and college depot. I loved the informative display cases on the second floor which held information on filming western movies in Arizona, about Burton Barr - their namesake, and about the architecture of the building. This was a very nice, informative touch. The third floor is administration and is not open to the public. This is where the magic of Phoenix Public Library is planned. This is where the PPL team orders and processes PPL materials, where staff plans programs, marketing, and more! The fourth floor is the teen room, the makerspace, and where the youth services staff plans programs. The fifth floor is the largest reading room in the nation, yes, larger than NYC Central Public Library's reading room! It's an impressive floor and my favorite with those beautiful North, and South views of Phoenix. This floor holds the adult non-fiction collection, and reference collection. Each floor has restrooms, look for signs. Can't find it? Ask the friendly staff at any service desk. Enjoy your visit at an architectural gem, a Phoenix Point of Pride, and at one of the best library's in the nation.

The library location in Tempe is so much better than the downtown chandler library. The selection here is way bigger, and it's more teenager friendly. My son was able to get some good books he was interested in reading. In the downtown chandler location he couldn't find one book that peaked his interest. I got way more books than I expected. That's a good thing! I need to get back into reading. The employees here are so much more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable than the Chandler library. On one hand,…read moreI'm not really into the old books themselves -- like, the stories and info inside don't always grab me, and sometimes they feel outdated or just not my thing. But on the flip side, the whole atmosphere of the place is chef's kiss for anyone who vibes with that old-school charm. The shelves are packed with leather-bound books that look like they've got stories in their covers alone. The texture and smell of those vintage leather bindings? Pure magic. If you're someone who loves that sort of musty, nostalgic scent that only time and dust can create, this place is basically a treasure trove. It's like stepping into a cozy library from another era, where every book feels like a mini relic. So yeah, if you're not fussed about the content but totally into the aesthetic -- the look, the feel, the smell -- you'll probably fall hard for this spot. But if you want fresh pages and modern reads, maybe it's not your vibe. Still, for anyone who's into the tactile, sensory side of books -- that old leather smell, the slightly rough feel of aged paper, the aura of history -- this bookstore is a whole mood, no cap.

If they don't have your book at a particular location, they will have it dropped off by the next day. Being from the Midwest, we ended up in a lighthearted, fun conversation about Fargo, which made the visit feel even more welcoming at first. Unfortunately, that experience shifted pretty quickly. During our conversation, the owner came up and told us she could hear us from the back of the store and that we needed to keep it down because a workshop was going on. Fair enough, but it was the delivery that was surprising. She explicitly said, "Because I own the bookstore, I can be rude." That comment really changed the tone. It felt like casual conversation (even a little laughter) wasn't welcome (unless participating in the workshop, by all means join workshop after Happy Hour and be rambunctious while customers are shopping.) The atmosphere suddenly shifted to less inviting and I wished I didn't spend my money. It's disappointing, because the space itself and interactions with staff like Patrick are genuinely great. I just wish the overall experience matched the charm of the bookstore.
