Honestly, my overall thoughts on food trucks are overpriced mediocre food paid for by its convenience. Appalachian Chic knocked down my thinking on food trucks and is the best food truck I have had. We were visiting Asheville and brewery touring of course. Appalachian Chic was parked outside of Highland Brewery. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and made it nAsheville hot along with a side salad. When I order hot chicken, I expect hot and spicy chicken which is exactly what was delivered. Sides can make or break a meal and the side salad exceed expectations with fresh cheese,pickled onions and apple slices and more toppings. My friends enjoyed the take on the large tater tots as well as they loved the brussel sprouts as a side option. My meal was about $12 bucks which was a steal for the quality of food. Much to our delight, the food truck on site was Appalachian Chic. We ordered the Fried Green Tomato BLT, the Barbecuban, and two orders of Wings & Things. I actually didn't get to try the food because the "closed for 30 minutes" right as I got to the window. This was after waiting about 40 minutes to order. I understand they were busy working CiderFest and there was a long line, but come on, if they suspected they were going to close for 30 minutes something should have been said earlier. It was a busy festival, they said they were down employees and needed time to catch up. But knowing it's a busy and SOLD OUT festival, it should've been planned better. To close in the rush of festival without any warning was not a smart move. If they couldn't handle it, they should have just not been there. The festival was only from 1 to 5 and it was only a little after 2 when I got in line and almost 2:45 when I got to the ordering window. Went to the awesome fat tire brewery for a tour and had an hour to kill before our tour. Appalachian chic food truck was out front and we had not eaten yet so decided we would get something to split. We got a BBQ sandwich with the pimento cheese on the side with fries and two drinks. My friend and I ordered the classic burger and both of ours was way undercooked. And, by the time we got our food, the fries were already mostly cold. My friend took both plates back and told them about the burgers being undercooked and they wanted to argue saying they cooked it to medium. We were never asked how we wanted them cooked anyway, and it was definitely no more than medium rare. You are not supposed to do that with burgers. They took the plates back and said to come back in 10 minutes. My friend went back and got our plates in 10 minutes. The burgers had been cooked a little better, but had absolutely no flavor. Not even a hint of salt or anything. On top of that, they wouldn't even give us hot fries. The fries, of course, were super cold by then. I recommend to avoid this food truck. read more

This food truck was located in Brevard at The Hub on a Saturday afternoon, and my friend and I stopped by after a long hike for some snacks. I ordered the chorizo mac and cheese, the beer cheese tots, and berry salad (for health, of course). I ordered the tots because I wasn't sure if my spicy-sensitive friend would like them- they had some heat but it was more smoky tasty than hot-spicy. They were topped with fried onion straws. My GOLLY it is probably the best mac and cheese I've had in all of Asheville, and there are some serious contenders with the likes of The Southern. As for the other food- tots were delicious but note they are served as an order of 3 latke-style potato pancakes instead of bite size tots, and berry salad was very refreshing and tasty (greens, balsamic glaze, berries, and a few pieces of soft cheese, not sure what kind). The operators of this truck deserve a visit from the authorities. I asked for a vegetarian version of the BLT (made with tempeh) and told them that I could not have any dairy, as my nursing daughter is allergic. The guy said that would be fine, even clarifying that the tots do not contain cheese, though they are gooey and delicious, so some people think that they do. Well, I got my sandwich and it was glistening, so I asked if there was any butter in it, reiterating that my daughter is allergic to dairy. I was told no, it's just oil, so I had a bite. I tasted butter, went back up to the truck and said, "I'm pretty sure there is butter in this- I can taste it" so the guy said "It contains clarified butter, which is safe for dairy allergic people to eat." This guy is operating a food truck with INCORRECT food safety beliefs, putting consumers at risk. Clarified butter is typically ok for lactose intolerant individuals, but people with an allergy to dairy will react to clarified butter. My daughter subsequently broke out in a rash and showed reactive symptoms for 3 days. I would avoid this truck if you have any concerns of food safety, and hope that the owners retrain their staff asap. read more

Recently had grilled chicken with seasoned fries when the truck was parked at the food truck park. The chicken was on this side of not quite cooked enough and the seasoned fries had so much salt in them that they were not edible. I know they can do better just not sure who was minding the kitchen.
