We stayed at the Apollo Motel on our way through Canada on the Trans-Canadian Highway. The Apollo was undergoing renovations and was a bit of a work in progress. Nevertheless, we had a good night's sleep, which was the main thing we were looking for. The rooms are simple and not very well decorated. Our room did not have a side table on one side of the bed.
The reason for this poor review is that my wife (who was on the side without the side table) inadvertently left her $800 prescription progressive eyeglasses on the floor, where they remained as we continued our journey. She discovered they were missing the next night, when we were in Thunder Bay. She called and spoke with the night clerk, who confirmed via a texted photo that they had located the eyeglasses and were holding them for her.
Since we were not going to be anywhere in the area of the Apollo on the remainder of our trip, my wife discussed with them her sending a postage-prepaid package addressed to another location in Ontario where we would be in a few weeks, along with directions, which cost us $30. She had tracking on both the package going to the Apollo and the prepaid package for the glasses to be forwarded on. A few days later, she confirmed (both via the tracking number and a call to the Apollo) that they had received the package and would be sending her back her eyeglasses using the prepaid package.
As we neared the time we would be back in Ontario, my wife checked the tracking number for the pre-paid package. It never was registered as being sent. The Friday before we were to arrive back in Ontario (where we'd be for a week), my wife called and spoke with the day clerk, who assured her that they still had both the glasses and the package, and would put in the post that day.
According to the tracking number, the package was never sent and we did not receive it while we remained in Canada, and the Apollo never returned our texts. As of this writing, they still have the glasses and are not returning them to her (which is now much more complicated as we are in the US traveling for the next few months).
Because they were unprofessional, did not do what they said they would, and to this day have not returned my wife's expensive property, which any establishment with good service should do, I recommend you avoid the Apollo Motel. read more
