First they had a cancellation and were able to squeeze me in and second because the technician was smart, reliable and friendly. Chris, fixed errors made by other techs (another company), cleaned the plot light- it was weak from dust and debris and then spent some time figuring out why my thermostat wouldn't turn off. No one could expect that a brand new thermostat, that I purchased from a big box store, could be faulty and cause such a headache. He had one that he installed in his truck and it worked perfectly. Living in the hills off 280 you get used to the fog and cold weather...as long as your heater works. Well, the heater wouldn't come on and it got to about 58* so everything was cold dammit! Contacted Apollo HVAC through Yelp and they were able to come out the next day! The total cost was under $300 parts and labor and now we are nice and cozy with the heater on! 9 AM on the Saturday before Christmas, Chris just left our place. Ages ago, we had someone else come work on our monster of a furnace so, when it stopped working this time, I called him again. He took a look and said the valve needed to be replaced but, as it was an old gravity furnace, the part would be harder to find. Fast forward a few days. I happen to be passing a heating/plumbing supply store the day before Thanksgiving, show them a picture of my heater, and ask about a replacement valve. They say they have something that will work with a little modification. I call the heating guy and have him talk to the store owner. I'm told to buy the part and call the heating guy back after Thanksgiving. I call the following week but didn't reach him. I send a follow up text. No reply. I try several times over the next couple of weeks without success. I start to think he's intentionally avoiding me, so I have my sister reach out. No luck. He vanished. Here's where Apollo Heating comes in. Our two sons are coming in from Florida a few days after Christmas. Florida, where it's been in the 70s all week, those two kids don't even own proper jackets. I called last Friday to see if Apollo could come fix the issue. Manny, the owner, says they're swamped but call Monday. Go figure, winter is their busiest time! I call back Monday, nothing is open on the calendar, but he says to call back Tuesday. I call back Tuesday, no cancellations yet. Wednesday, Manny calls and says they'll squeeze me in on Saturday at 8 AM. 7:45 AM this morning, Chris (Manny's son) shows up, tells me it's not the valve that's the problem, fixes the issue with the furnace, installs the new thermostat, and is on his way in just about an hour. Heating unit went out on my mother in laws house. I got three estimates and they all suggested replacing the unit for between $6k and $7k. The last shop said I needed to replace our ducts too so I decided to call Apollo. Good thing I did. They asked why I wanted a quote on replacing the unit, so I explained that three shops had already suggested replacement. They said that most shops don't have the expertise to fix older units and replacing is much more lucrative so most shops will just suggest replacement. They suggested calling PG&E and gave them come out and see whether they would suggest replacement or if it can be repaired. They even gave me the phone number to call at PG&E as I didn't know PG&E offered this service. PG&E came out and said they could not get the blower working and I explained my story. He asked what company had suggested I call PG&E and I told him Apollo. His response was "Oh, Apollo, they've been around for decades and they do a lot of business in SF. They thought it would be well worth it to try fixing vs replacing the whole unit. I scheduled my appointment with Apollo and the repair person was actually early... he called to offer to arrive a bit earlier, which was great with me. Their technician came unprepared -- didn't even have a lighter -- and made empty promises about fixing our water heater. He left without doing anything and still overcharged us. Apollo Heating & Ventilation is a top notch REPAIR service and don't just replace older heaters like most shops do. Three shops gave us estimates of around $6k to replace my heating unit. Fortunately, I chose to call Apollo and they actually suggested that I call PG&E to give us a free heater evaluation on whether the heater could be fixed or replaced. I was blown away as I didn't even know PG&E would do this at no cost. I called PG&E and they said most companies just replace heaters because they don't have the expertise to fix the heaters and it makes them more money. The PG&E person who came out said they cannot recommend any company but asked who I was considering. When I said Apollo, he said they see a lot of Apollo work around SF and they have been around forever... He said he would choose them if he had any problems. I have an old gravity furnace and the pilot went out on it's own for the first time I've owned the house in 20 plus years. I called Apollo during this crazy cold and wet deluge we were having, and Manny told me they were swamped and that PG&E will come and try to light it if I wanted to try them first. I had a feeling it wasn't just needing to be lit so I scheduled them to come out for the next week. John came out right on time and found the issue and also let me know I put on a thermostat that was wrong for my system. He replaced it with a new one. My old one would not kick in unless I moved the stick past 68 degrees and had to move it around back and forth for it to kick in. With the new thermostat I can set it at a much lower temperature and it will kick in and moderate there. Plus the new thermostat can be shut off completely to not turn heat on. We decided last winter to replace our aging gravity furnace, and this spring called a few companies to get quotes. Manny came out and walked through in great detail what the steps would be - including knocking through to a room that previously never had heating. I'm a reasonably technical and handy guy, so was very happy to have detailed discussions about things as minor as the current draw for the electric fan! Professional, skilled, and delivers excellent immaculate work. That's what these guys are. We hired them to redo the heating for our entire house, a pretty big job that we expected to take at least a couple days. Little did I know, Manny and his crew did it all in one day! They arrived at 9am and by 5pm they were out the door, and even left the worksite cleaner than before! The result was a work of art. (Just check out the pictures!) Manny paid attention to every detail. Made sure all the pipes and joints were secured and taped. After everything's done they test the system and balance the airflow, making sure every room is evenly heated. Moreover, what sets them apart is they bring in their pipes neatly pre-wrapped from their shop, which is how they deliver their immaculate quality. Their price was competitive, compared to several other guys we contacted. Manny was straightforward and didn't try to up-sell me on larger furnaces I didn't need. Their office was responsive and we were able to get an appointment within less than a week.
