This was my first time at Apogee Studio, and as someone who was previously on the fence about immersive audio, I was very impressed with the presentation Bob Clearmountain gave! To be honest, I wasn't sure if immersive audio was just another gimmick that would go the way of the SACD, but experiencing Bob's Dolby Atmos mixes totally changed my impression of what is possible for immersive audio. I can see now that immersive mixing is actually a valuable and necessary skill to develop to stay relevant as an audio engineer, and immersive audio is truly the new stereo audio. The event was not just a basic beginner intro to Dolby Atmos, and it wasn't just a sales pitch for Apogee, either. Bob showed us his workflows and how he simultaneously mixes in stereo and immersive, which is super efficient and I am excited to try a setup like this. Clearmountain's mixes showcased that immersive audio doesn't have to be wild and crazy with someone's voice flying in all of the speakers around your head, making you dizzy. Rather, immersive mixes have a lot of diverse applications. It was VERY cool to listen to Taylor Hawkin's tribute concert in Atmos - it felt like I was actually at the concert! Clearmountain also did amazing work with his immersive mix of Bob Marley's "Is This Love", staying true to the original mix but simply enhancing it with Atmos for a fuller experience. Of course, when it comes to considering the average consumer experience, listening to immersive audio in a setup with such amazing equipment can feel like an unfair comparison to hearing immersive audio in headphones. (Apogee's Symphony Mk II converters are crystal clear, and Genelec speakers are always a treat to listen to!) That said, now that I have some references of Atmos mixes done right, it's preferable to listen to immersive audio in headphones as well. Mixing on an immersive system, and making it translatable for headphones still creates a really neat listening experience. As a woman in audio (which is still pretty rare these days!) I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the CEO and founder of Apogee is Bob Clearmountain's wife, Betty Bennett. She was also at the event I attended and asked for feedback for future events - which I know I'll want to attend if they are anything like this one! I also think it's great that Apogee has such a direct connection with Grammy-award winning mix engineers like Bob Clearmountain to offer consistent real-time feedback to the company about how to make their products the best they can be. Their Symphony Mk II converters really do sound better than any other converter I have heard, and I feel confident buying products from a company that is consistently leading the way with technological advancements in audio, and is so in touch with the engineers and professionals who are using their products. Whether you are an Apogee user or not, I highly recommend going to their events! If you are a beginner or a pro, the way they presented information was accessible to both - and you won't be bored by hearing the same thing that is presented on every YouTube channel about immersive audio. I'm also definitely going to seriously consider making the investment on their converters as well, as I feel they are the way to go when it comes to upgrading to an immersive audio system. read more

The Duet was owned by my best friend, who passed away and has a lot of sentimental value. I was thinking it was beyond repair and talked to a friend asking "what should I do", attempt to repair, or just upgrade. The upgrade would have been nice but I had to keep this one running! I've been a long time user of Apogee products upgrading to each new interface as my studio has grown and they have always been a key part of my musical journey and growth. The latest Symphony 2x6se module I purchased is really their best converter to date right on par if not beating out some of my other top of the line converters- stunning clarity and transparency. Their customer service is also as amazing as their products- I almost never have to even wait to get an experienced tech on the live chat during their generous hours of operation. Special shout out to GregC for going above and beyond helping me with a routing issue on my new unit, staying an hour after they closed to troubleshoot with me not leaving until everything was completely up and running- never had another pro audio company treat me as well as them! I accidentally left my cable plugged into the mic while traveling and broke the female input. Apogee customer service we're happy to fix my issue in a timely manner. They initially checked to see if it was still under warranty which was appreciated. It was not, but still repaired it at a reasonable price. I've come here 2x for private standing room only concerts as they have a recording studio and small stage. Once for Glen Hansard and once for Miguel. LOVED IT. I always stand front and center that if I stretched out my arms and leaned, I could totally touch the artist. The sound is great, the experience is once in a lifetime, and the events are so well organized. They have two bathrooms too and you street park. read more

Takes about a day to a day and a half to get a response from a technician. So troubleshooting an issue can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks. Took about 3 weeks to fix the unit, even with a rush order. They bungled the address on the return of the unit and it wound up in an entirely different town. When I asked them to refund the shipping they never returned my emails. Good unit, when working, but already need a repair after two years and light use, poor service. I think they're based in California, so to be expected I guess. read more

A brand new Mic Plus arrived in shabby condition, the button looked as if a fingernail had sliced through it, and the black section of the mic was loose from the metal casing, literally would giggle around just by touching it. I reached out to Apogee and the initial response was "oh so sorry, we'll replace it asap" etc etc etc... days go by and I hear nothing, only to get a lame response of "Hi Brian! Unfortunately Apogee will not replace / exchange / refund you for your Mic Plus. You will have to deal directly with Thomann. If you have your proof of purchase/ receipt & it is still under warranty there shouldn't be a problem. Thomann will need to inspect the MiC Plus first before there is any exchange. I began with APOGEE in 2000. They WERE at a stellar company. They also like to tell you they're doing you a favor, like... "we'll take this in and there will be no rush." The RMA person, CHRIS G will then retract that offer. It's not the matter of money, it's the principle. So if you still believe purchasing an Apogee Digital Product is like how it was in 2004, then don't buy their products. The repair department doesn't accept checks. Too bad they told me after sending my assistant to pick up my SYMPHONY I/O. Now I have a $50 rush charge that is useless. Today, no repair, no unit, and a $50 rush charge. You will continue to loose customers this way, and then wonder why people don't respect APOGEE anymore. It's because you are not the same company anymore. Extraordinarily poor customer service. My order was delayed more than a full week with no explanation or update - when I called to inquire, "Tina" was curt and unhelpful. She offered no explanation or solutions, and when I asked for a refund she said "Fine, I can do that." and hung up on me. She didn't even ask for my name or do anything to confirm that I was the person who placed the order. I had to call back to ensure that my refund would actually be processed. She confirmed that it would, and hung up on me a second time. I am astounded and appalled by Apogee's lack of customer service from end to end. Given the other terrible reviews about their questionable history of bad tech support, I'd stay away from a company that doesn't understand the basics of customer relations. Apogee hosted Shazam's private event with Magic! ("why you gotta be so roooood?") and it was super intimate and fun. I got to hang out on the little balcony area during the concert and could do my little wise-cracking from up there for a little back and forth banter with the band. It's a small but cozy space and if you get invited to go, don't hesitate. Shazam catered the food and the drinks and it was a perfect LA Saturday. I didn't quite realize that this was a private recording space that Apogee, the audio equipment company, put together to kinda showcase their stuff and, at the same time, claim its stake at the private sessions arena that the bigger guys are doing. Smart move! Really, really like the space and I love how generous Apogee was to open it up to all of Shazam's guests. read more

I want to say one this is a great company! I called yesterday insearch of a Duet FireWire breakout cable! I live in Houston and I do a lot of music with duet, but to make a long story short I lost the cable. I had been looking for the cable all around the city no luck. So I thought to give Apogee a call and not only were they cool and very helpful, BUT THEY CALLED ME BACK!!!! I never get the call back; turns out the cord was on there site sold out but they helped me out and needless to say I got a new cord lol! Very helpful and stand strongly by their products. Had a mic go bad and had it replaced by Guitar Center but only one they had was opened. Apogee offered to replace it with brand new unopened box. Also, as I had had many issues with returning the unit, Apogee threw in a very cool custom carrying case. I was warned by other few users about Apogee's questionable history of not standing behind their products. I have to say i gave them the benefit of the doubt by purchasing an interface and got greatly disappointed. I brought in for repair a product that was clearly defective and they sent me away with the least level of cooperation I've probably every seen. Here we are talking about a product that wasn't abused or mistreated, but very light use exposed a manufacturing shortcoming that Apogee isn't able to even discuss. I researched forums and there's a number of users who experience similar issues with the Apogee One's battery compartment, but again this company seems to above customer loyalty. I ask to speaker to a manager and somebody named Chris comes out, I don't even know in how many different way I tried to explained that the unit was defective and this person didn't even want to look at the evidence. Shortly after in a quite sarcastic fashion he states "well, you have a unit that has other working features, just use what works". Are you serious ?? To summarize, I paid a premium for a so called leading company in audio equipment and received inferior technical support and a design flawed product. read more

I have not received my Apogee One yet, but dealing with them has been a very positive experience. Don Spacht helped me online and on the phone. I first had contact with him on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and he was extremely helpful and polite. I wanted to order from Hawaii, but they don't offer free shipping there. I questioned this, as it doesn't cost more to ship here via USPS than to anywhere else. They normally ship FedEx. After he checked with his warehouse manager and called me the following Tuesday, the result was that they shipped USPS Priority Mail flat rate to me in Hawaii and gave me free postage. I wish I could say this is a great company but I'll let you decide. I took my psx-100 unit in for service on september 17, 2012. I actually drove it in and handed it to a receptionist who hinted at a three day wait time to tell me what was up with this thing. It's december 19, 2012 and after a few calls to 'Gabe' I'm still waiting. I have no idea what could be so complicated but after the most recent call back from Gabe who said he'd call on Monday to work out some sort of compensation for how messed up my service is...still not a word...two weeks later. These guys seem very bare bones, kind of like kurzweil was when they were going down. Maybe it's just me...I guess I could have paid the extra 50.00 expedition fee...but I even offered that back in October... I will do my best to buy a new unit from anyone else but Apogee. read more
