this was our home away from home during our stay in madrid. it is located in the colourful la…read morelatina district, just a couple minutes walk from the la latina metro station and the famous calle cava baja, where all the cheap tapas bars and cafes are located. we booked a five night stay for €580.50 (inclusive of vat and taxes), which was approximately $754.65 ($150/night) in the fall of 2014. considering we had an entire 1 bedroom apartment with bathroom, living room and kitchen to ourselves, i'd say this was a pretty sweet deal. here's what i liked: +check-in process was seamless. in fact, as soon as we walked in, luis, one of the staff on site, walked out and said my husband's name (before we even introduced ourselves!) pretty sharp! within a couple of minutes, we had the keys in our hands and were headed to our apartment. +most of the staff spoke english, which was helpful to us since we did not know spanish +elevators available in the building +laundry room available on the ground floor +apartment was clean and completely furnished with linens, towels, furniture, etc +bedroom had a dresser, armoire, and two nightstands. it also led to a small balcony with a nice view of our street. +bathroom had towels, a hair dryer, and basic toiletries. no tub, but there was a shower head which made it easier for shorties like me! +living room had a nice-size couch, tv, large side table with drawers +kitchen/dining area had a small dining table, four chairs, refrigerator, microwave, and was fully stocked with silverware, dishes, pots and pans so we could cook our own food +convenient location, close to tourist attractions, public transportation, convenience stores, and tapas bars +secure code needed to enter the building +staff on site until 2200, available to answer questions if needed +upon request, staff booked us a taxi to the madrid airport in advance so that all we needed to do was go to the lobby and meet our driver and here are some things i did not like: +some of the furniture was a bit old and not in the best condition (fortunately, nothing broke during our stay) +shower area was tight, and i imagine an average size american man (6ft tall) might not be comfortable using this small shower +we encountered a few creepy crawlies (i.e. bugs) in the shower area on more than one occasion +aside from the balcony in the bedroom, there actually weren't any other windows in the apartment, so it felt dark most of the time overall, i enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to friends and family. i wouldn't mind staying here again if i should find myself in madrid!

the ONLY positive thing i can say about this reservation is that the location and apartment itself…read morewas fine. however, this was all overshadowed by my experience at the friendly rental office in Madrid. I arrived earlier than my check in, was exhausted after sleeping 2 hours and being sick all night prior and the morning of. The man at the front desk stated I could sit in the back and charge my phone a bit before my apartment was ready. I sat in the back part of the office and rested my head on my arm to close my eyes when a woman (40's, blonde highlighted hair, slender) yelled. "HELLO HELLO, EXCUSE ME YOU CANNOT SLEEP HERE. THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR SLEEPING. OKAY???THIS IS A BUSINESS!. THIS IS AN OFFICE. NOT A PLACE FOR SLEEPING" Now if you work at a place called FRIENDLY rentals and are in the business of hospitality, comfort, and accommodations that is NOT the way to talk to your guests. A more civilized person might ask if i were okay first and then calmly explain that I cannot sleep there. Not yell at me like I am a homeless person sleeping on her floor. Needless to say I left shortly after, feeling like i was in a hostile environment. I complained to the front desk person who apologized and told me that she was THE BOSS! there was no one else I could complain to. He also expressed that he and another coworker expected she would react to me like that. So this is her usual behavior. I called Barcelona main office and requested a refund of the first night, seeing as how she completely ruined it. They refused and only offered a 6% discount to future reservations. WHY would I want to book through them again after that...and 6%?? that is ridiculous. Oh! I might add that when I walked into the office, there was already another argument happening between guests and employees. They proceeded to talk about them more after they left. The apartment was fine except there was NO basic comforts such as salt, sugar, cooking oil. Very inconvenient if you're only staying a week. Also, only ONE roll of toilet paper. Stingy and mean. I do NOT recommend this agency unless you want to risk ruining a potentially beautiful vacation.

I stayed at the…read moreMuseo Reina Sofía apartment in Madrid, and it was modern, well-decorated and well-stocked. I cooked at least a meal per day in the kitchen (which was lovely). Check-in was easy. Plus the location was excellent. We did have one issue we had to contact the office (in Madrid) about, but they worked with us to resolve it quickly. I would stay there again.

Because we couldn't cancel we diverted to Madrid before heading home to deal with our emergent issue. The place is run down, not clean, and the front door, which was supposed to be locked was always propped open. Trying to talk to a manager was impossible (the people at the front desk claimed there was no manager ever available, and that they could not give us their name). We ended up staying in a hotel until we could get tickets changed to get home... terrible experience. Don't stay here. Oh... I gave it one star only because I had to in order to post this review.

Ideally located in the heart of an energetic district with several bars, clubs, shops, and restaurants, Slow Suites Chueca is an Amazing place to stay. It's under new management and has only been open for three (3) months. The rooms are mini suites and can best be classified as a modernized, upscale, better AirBnB. The suites are fully furnished with updated amenities, stylish furnishings, complementary wi-fi, small balconies, and most importantly privacy! Now, when attempting to find Slow Suites, it's very easy to miss. It's unassuming nature creates mystic until you get into your suite and notice it's charm.
