Any Water Dive Center is an open, welcoming, and encouraging dive shop filled with a great selection of gear at good prices, offering PADI certification (again at a good price)! I visited in November last year, poking my nose in, and asked about classes... the employee I met was friendly and took time to answer my questions, and I resolved to cross this item off my bucket list as soon as possible. Fast forward to yesterday, when I was finally ready. Brian, the manager, was there this time. He's an engaging, confident person with an intimate knowledge of the local (and global) industry. He was friendly and forthcoming about the requirements for the certification class, walked me through the steps, class requirements, medical requirements, the full deal! For those who (like me) are just getting started (the process can seem intimidating from the outside) expect to spend about $1100, all included... this gets your online classes and your hands-on classes (including two dive trips in Monterey). This is all done with an emphasis on safety, so be smart and take the training seriously. The shop has changed owners and has gone down hill in practically every aspect. I can no-longer recommend this shop and would steer friends and family elsewhere. The shop selection has decreased, the staff's knowledge is poor to basic and the ownership does not inspire confidence. I'm sad to say go else where for your gear and training. read more

Great Experience and Great Customer Service. I'm so glad Any Water offers private sessions because having 1:1 time with an instructor to talk me through things, remind me of the skills I have, and just generally be patient with me were so key in building my confidence to get in the water. The last time I went diving was 10 years ago, and I was really nervous about getting back into it. I needed to schedule 3 days of lessons (1 pool day + 2 ocean days), but I was on a tight timeline because of an upcoming trip. The staff was friendly and helpful and assured me they'd be able to set up something before my flight. Sure enough, I had an instructor and lessons within 1 week of going into the shop! My instructor (Nani) really helped me work through a lot of nerves while helping me re-learn a lot of skills that I was rusty on. Her patience and positive energy made a big difference. By the end of day 3, I was feeling so much more comfortable with diving than I did on day 1. I'm so grateful that Nani was able to help me find the confidence I needed before I left for my trip! read more

Had a really great experience getting scuba certified here. My wife and I wanted to get certified for an upcoming trip to Belize. Glad we chose Any Water to do it. I checked out a couple different shops and I found Any Water to be the most inviting. Cindy & Kelsey we're a pleasure to work with, on the phone and in person. They were accommodating and seemed genuinely interested in taking good care of us. Nick, Mike & Lance were our actual instructors for the certification process and I can't recommend them enough. They were thorough yet entertaining. They kept it lite and appealing but were also insistent that we get the skills down. Best dive shop. I rented my first dry suits here and everyone was very helpful. The difference is that you'll never have to worry about the integrity of your suits or equipment here. They won't rent things with holes and will pull them out of circulation, unlike some cheaper places that keep renting old stuff just to make money. There's a difference, so come to Any Water. I learned starting first in the classroom setting, then indoor pool and then Monterey Bay! This was over the course of two weekends. Highly recommend them for being your teachers! My 15yo son and I did our coursework and poolwork here for scuba certification prior to going to Catalina for the open water certification. This was during COVID and it was safe, with masks, etc when we weren't in the water. Michael Brister and the others at Any Water Sports were friendly, knowledgable and very detailed. They handled the certification referral hand-off seamlessly with Catalina Divers Supply. In Catalina, our divemaster there said the Any Water Sports excel driven documentation was also about the best she'd ever seen, which made her feel comfortable taking us out. I've been to Diver Dan's and Pacific Scuba but those stores can't compare to Any Water. At Any Water I always feel so welcomed and taken care of and I never feel like I'm being pushed to buy or sign up for anything. I also never feel like "just another customer" and can tell the employees really care for their customers. They're such a great group of people! The store itself has a great variety of gear and even if they don't have something in stock, the employees are happy to order it for you. It's also extremely easy to rent gear here if you don't have personal gear and/or if you want to test things out before purchasing. I completed my PADI Open Water Diver certification here as well and it was definitely a life changing experience. The instructors, Melisa, Dennis, Sean, Marc, and Grant are equally as great and made the class so fun and easy that I barely even felt like I was in class! I am so grateful for the whole friendly team at Any Water Sports for fixing my gear with zero notice before my dive trip this week. The owner, James, personally took an hour of his time to look over my regulator and SS1 to determine the cause of a leak which started after servicing it elsewhere. He was able to identify the problem efficiently, and he was kind, patient, thorough, and professional. He only charged me a minimal amount of money for a replacement part despite spending so much time with me. I especially appreciated that he took me back to the repair area so that I could see the problem clearly and make sure that it was resolved before I left. I've been here twice, and have had a great experience at Any Water Sports. The owner helped me last time I went, and she offered a lot of great advice on gear. I tried to get a bunch of gear online, but it's very confusing what all to get when you're new to the sport. Actually, their prices were also comparable to online. This is a big shop, and they offer a good selection here. I ended up buying my dive computer, dive bag, replacement mouth piece for my reg and wetsuit there all for a great price. I also got a mask for my boyfriend that was the same price as online. The owner was very helpful and friendly, and she wasn't trying to sell me expensive things I don't need. In fact, she found me a really nice high quality wetsuit that was half off, since it was last year's model. I saved a lot of money on a simple dive bag as well rather than spending $100+ on a travel bag. I also didn't need to spend $1000+ on a dive computer, and ended up getting one that gave me all the basics I need for a reasonable price. They are also a certified Scubapro service center, and brought in my Scubapro regulator I had bought online to get it checked out before my trip. The owner had her husband (he works the service department) check it out. He said it was in really great condition, didn't need servicing, replaced the mouthpiece, and hooked up the hoses to my BC all at no charge! So the owners, the owner's son, and this one girl that works there have all been really great. There is a one sort of creepy looking kid that works there that weirds me out a bit, but everyone else has been super nice and very knowledgeable. I enjoyed watching their scuba trip videos. They also have organized group scuba trips, and are a great source of information on the hot spot destinations for diving. They also offer scuba classes as well, and are a 5 star PADI Scuba Instruction center. My boyfriend did the class and pool work there, which he was really dreading and tried to get out of on multiple occasions, and he made it through the class still wanting to go with me! So kudos to AWS for getting him through the class! Highly Recommended! read more

I used to come to this shop to rent scuba gear back in 2005 when I was diving that summer. I took a boat trip with them to Monterey and it was a great trip. The gear and servicing were great as well. Wonderfully helpful shop. I needed a new mask and snorkel, and in less than an hour I walked out with a mask customized with prescription lenses and the perfect snorkel. Super easy, super fast. I then wanted to get another Rx mask, and Ginny did a lot of research for me to see if they could get everything on time. She was super responsive and super helpful as we tried to figure it out. I also had a lot of questions about PADI certification and the answers I got were focused on what was best for me rather than what would make them the most money - they wanted it to work for me, which I really appreciated! read more

This is an excellent dive company for the south Bay area, and I would absolutely recommend them if you are in need of classes or basic equipment. Ginny was a fantastic help in setting us up. I took a refresher course, which took place at the SJSU pool. Although the instruction was good, I had qualms with the equipment (there were no fins that fit me) & the overcrowded classes. More than once I was kicked in the head by people in the rescue diver course. Come on people! My bf took an open water course, which he liked, although there were times which could have been streamlined. The open water dives were shore dives in Monterey. They offer a great selection of basic gear for reasonable prices and excellent support. Overall we were happy with the company, and will probably be back for stuff related to scuba. read more

Went there on a recommendation from an avid diver even though we only wanted snorkeling gear. Kevin, a member of the family owned store, helped us get everything we needed without upselling or wasting time. My wife needed prescription lenses and he suggested calling the optometrist for the script, then used the fax to insert the perfect lenses in her new mask. The lenses were properly fitted, by Kelsey... or Casey, who began helping us but had to leave for a business errand. The snorkels were matched and we got the better strap to minimize hair pulling. Kevin installed the straps and snorkel clips without complaint. We happilyuuphold ourselves on neoprene vests, best flippers and an Auqu Lung mesh to carry all the new gear!! read more

Somehow they have managed to get AMAZING people here. People that work here and instructors are nice, cool, professional, and just amazing. Not just average amazing but amazing amazing. I received my open water certification here and I am so glad I picked Any Water Sports. They taught us the skills, demonstrated them, then made sure we know the skills in a safe environment and worked with students until everyone had mastered and I mean mastered each skill. At all times, we knew help is right there and everything is under control. Ocean dive was super fun, we saw otters, and sea lions, and star fish, and halibut, and so much more. This review is specifically for the dive class experience. My two boys and I signed up for the open water dive certification class. I weigh 200lbs while my sons are 15 and 13 weighing 130 and 100lbs respectively. I list our weights because it factors into the experience. My youngest son is very skinny. The wetsuit they provided him did not fit properly and he therefore had a difficult time on the open water dives. At several points his lips turned blue and the instructors promptly removed him from the water. It's probably worth mentioning at this point that the open water dives take place in Monterey Bay where the underwater temperature is around 57 deg F. Due to my youngest sons inability to remain in the water, he was not able to complete his certification. For this I place blame on the dive shop for not providing a proper wetsuit or refusing to accept him into the program when they saw his size. They should have just refunded our money and explained that they don't have a wetsuit to fit him. My older son also struggled with the cold but was able to tough it out. However he has no desire to get back in the water any time soon. I was mostly comfortable in the water but I have a pretty strong tolerance for cold. That and a fair amount of built in insulation made the temperature a non issue. Regarding the instructors, I would give them 5 stars. They were excellent at explaining the content of the class and trying to accommodate my sons dilemma. The staff at the shop was also first rate. They were very helpful with picking out fins, mask, snorkel, gloves and boots. All things considered, if it wasn't for the issues with my son I would have given 5 stars for the whole experience. My advice to readers, is that you should avoid the class if you are less than 130 lbs and or have a low tolerance for cold. Otherwise, this is a fine class to get scuba certified. read more

Anywater Sports is the best dive shop I have EVER been in to. I have been diving for about 10 years and have over 700 dives so I know a bit about dive shops and the service they provide. I am a technical diver and need access to competent people who can fill trimix as well as simple Nitrox fills. This is the first and only one that I have ever been into that can fill my tanks while I wait. Yes, read that again, a trimix fill while you wait. Frank, the man in charge is a wizard at regulators and all my annual checks for ALL my gear goes to his shop. Simply put there is no other dive shop around that can compete at the high standard that is provided here for technical divers. Now if they would just put in that espresso machine we would be in scuba heaven. read more

I took the SCUBA course at San Jose State University and Any Water Sports was suggested as the place to go for all my diving needs. My instructor Frank, is also the owner of Any Water, not wanting to seem naive, I checked out a few other dive shops in the Bay Area to compare prices. Any Water Sports is by far the best in selection and price. I was helped by several different people and never felt pressure to buy anything more than what I needed. I got a lot of feedback about various equipment and felt confident in my purchases. When it came time for my Open Water Certification I rented the rest of my gear from Any Water as well, including my tanks, weights, BCD, wet suit and hood. The place has a family free to it which I really like and which earns it a five star rating in my book. read more

This review is purely on the actual dive shop and not on the services or classes/certifications offered. I dropped by this LDS based on the great reviews on Yelp. I was pretty disappointed when I got there. It was poorly merchandised; there was gear on the floor, way too much product in a small space, and not easily shopped based on the fixtures and the layout of the store. I'll admit I'm a harsher critic than most since I'm a retail buyer and am involved in merchandising within my company. I was looking at masks and asked an employee about what they recommended for my concerns. She didn't know and had to consult with someone in the back. They were too busy to come out but she came back with some recommendations and fired off some names. The masks were either unmarked or in the incorrect display so I couldn't figure out which was which. I moved onto fins next and asked about sizing for a particular style. They were able to find one fin but not the other. Finally, I wanted to try on some wetsuits in a size 6 and there weren't any to try in that size. I was checking out their BCs and their selection was pretty sparse. I saw way more used ones for sale than anything else. What a letdown. For what it's worth, the staff were nice and tried to be helpful. Skip this shop and go to Diver Dan's instead. read more

I just had some equipment serviced and was very pleased with the price, the quality of the work and the speed. They overhauled an old (~20 years old) US Divers first and second stage as well as an octo and inspected a BC. The gear had been sitting for an embarrassingly long time, most of it in a shack by the ocean, and had some corrosion and the octo was free flowing. Turn around was under a week, what they said it would cost and they did an excellent job cleaning up the corrosion (cosmetic as well as functional). The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and for the most part friendly. Not sure why people bag on Laura, she's never been rude to me, just efficient and competent. They're my go-to shop and I'm looking forward to going back. read more

Without a doubt, this is one of the BEST scuba diving shops in the SF Bay Area, if not in California. I've been coming here for the last 8 years! Their expertise in recreational and technical scuba diving is one of the best. The wonderful difference is that this shop is much more interested in you as a diver. Their sales is very low pressure and they will give you their honest opinion on any product or service you want to avail yourself to. Also, people are so friendly there. It's like an extended family. The equipment they carry satisfy the most discriminating customer. Just about everyone there is an avid diver. So you're surrounded by divers that love scuba diving. Me, I buy just about all of my technical dive gear there, carrying Halycon, ScubaPro, DUI drysuits and much much more. My friend and I took the Discover Scuba Diving Course through Any Water Sports. It was a fantastic introduction to scuba diving for people looking to find out what it's all about. The course was about 1.5 hours long, and taught at the indoor swimming pool at San Jose State University. The instructors fitted us with fins and masks and taught us how to use the breathing devices to breathe underwater. Once we were comfortable enough to breathe on our own, we were given the opportunity to have fun and "scuba dive" around the pool. The instructors were fantastic and extremely patient with all the beginners. They let us pick up the skills at our own pace, and never pushed us to do anything we were not comfortable doing. I was a devout Wallins' Dive Center customer until they closed (now reopened under new ownership). When Wallins' closed Any Water Sports welcomed me with opened arms and now I have a new home for my scuba diving needs. My wife became open water certified a year ago and I was looking to buy new dive gear for her. Margo Lillie helped me choose the best regulator for my price range. I purchased this great Atomic regulator for my wife that I am excited about it. Margo is a trusted resource that is knowledgeable and so helpful any time I am there. I plan on going to Roatan in a month and Margo literally wrote out a list of must dives while there. Doesn't get any better than that! I think she is a valuable asset to any water sports. Any Water is well appointed with an array of scuba diving equipment. The service department has been excellent in keeping my equipment up to date and well maintained. They even took the time to connect and synch my wife's and I wireless dive computers. My only wish is that they were closer to my home. read more

My girlfriend had her scuba certificate in anywater. The shop facilities are instructors fine. However, logistics and operations are below average. For every dive we had to come to the shop before hand to take the equipment and then return it after the dive. I would expect the shop to bring and take the equipment of the group. I would even pay extra to avoid those trips. My recommendation is to avoid this place unless you live right next to the store. read more
