I purchased a home and AM/PM design was the architect for a gut renovation project of a two family…read moreinto a single family home in Queens. The design and floor plan of this house was one of the best layouts we've seen and a big reason we went through with the home purchase. The original owner however never closed out the work permits with the GC that he used, so Arnold and his team helped me navigate a very cumbersome NYC DOB electric, gas and construction approval process so I could obtain the final CO. Arnold and his team were communicative and guided us along the way. Appreciate their help closing it out and would recommend them!

We cannot say enough good things about the AMPM staff! We found Arnie about 2 years before we were…read moreconvinced we actually wanted to renovate our Queens 2-story, one family home. During that period we consulted with Arnie roughly three to four times on the things we'd need to get done (including an extensive asbestos abatement) without charging us a dime. When we were ready to go into contract, Arnie and his team helped us design an absolutely beautiful project that included an upgrade to every facet of our home. Shortly thereafter COVID hit and our project was significantly delayed. We were, however, lucky that Arnie and his amazing staff availed themselves during business and non-business hours to advise us on a variety of issues from navigating the DOBNOW webpages to reasonable locations to get quartz countertops. No project is without obstacles and between energy efficient windows and the skyrocketing price of wood, we DEFINITELY had our fair share. We can definitely attest that Arnie, Celia and their professional and knowledgeable staff made the navigation of those pitfalls a LOT easier. We can say in no uncertain terms that we highly recommend the use of AMPM for your next construction project. Thanks Arnie! Mr & Mrs. Jones

He…read morebrings expertise from two decades of experience to the table, and also his work is of impeccable quality. I saw a passive house he was gut renovating in Park Slope, and it was absolutely stunning! Jim knows how to preserve historic details while bringing the design into the modern era in a tasteful, classic way. He exudes calmness and wisdom and is a pleasure to be around. Full disclosure in that I ultimately had to choose a less experienced architect because Jim's fee, although completely reasonable given his level of skill and expertise, was a bit out of our price range.

Jim was great to work with. We did a semi-gut renovation in 3 bedroom/2 bathroom apt. The quality…read moreof his work and suggestions were exactly what we wanted based on my husband and my feedback. Jim is very detailed and each week during renovation, we had him manage the project with the contractor to ensure the final output was done properly. Most Manhattan apartments are not symmetrical, so the early stage on doing things a certain way goes a long way on the final look. He understands plumbing, and electrical well to communicate to our contractors. He referred us to a HVAC engineer. When it came to interior design, we had Sarah who provided feedback and suppliers information. She was also very helpful. Jim knows the DOB process well and helped us resolved many issues even during covid and DOB rule changed in 2020 and 2021. We also had him manage the project with the contractors. The contractors don't have the same design eyes and were a bit sloppy and forgetful so it was imperative to have Jim help us. Urban charges by the hour and provided an accurate estimate of the cost. Make sure what projects he's working on so he can allocate time properly. In the beginning with the design drawing schematic, it took a while cause he was on a couple of brownstone projects but overall still have a very positive experience with Jim. He was responsive.

I HIGHLY recommend! Amy was instrumental in creating the construction plans and interior designs…read morefor my apartment remodeling project, which was completed back in 2019. She is punctual, gets things done fast, communicates well -- and does it all with a great (cheerful) attitude. Starting out, she will walk you through the process of creating a shopping list of services, which are all tailored based on your needs and your budget. This was very helpful as it allowed me to easily associate each fixed cost to the various service offerings. If I wanted her to monitor the construction site, then I know it would cost X dollars per visit; if I wanted her to vet multiple contractors, then it would cost Y dollars; if I wanted to get interior design revisions for a given room, then it would cost Z dollars, etc. This approach was so much more predictable, and has saved me a lot when compared to a traditional fee structure where the service costs are based on a percentage of the construction costs. Based on my needs, she was able to devise a plan that included drafting the floor plans, vetting contractors, budgeting, selecting materials and vendors, construction onsite visits, board reviews, and meeting a design vision and mood that closely matches what I had originally set out to achieve. Furthermore, much of the process is documented, such as the construction plans, before/after photos, punch lists, etc., and can be referenced online via a shared Dropbox folder. She is also quite masterful at devising ways to save you on costs without sacrificing the look and quality you strive for. Take for example my kitchen cabinets: I wanted to optimize for space and storage, so my plan was to go with floor-to-ceiling European-style cabinets. What could have easily cost in excess of $25k in just cabinet materials (without installation), somehow ended up costing less than $10k, all because Amy was able to find an ingenious alternative that saved on costs while also preserving the look, feel, and quality of material and workmanship that I wanted. It has been a very satisfying experience working with Amy and I cannot express enough how much it will improve your quality of life, time, and effort working with a very capable and highly effective Architect and interior designer. Do not hesitate to consult with her, I have been through the process and can assure you that it will be worth every penny and you will have absolutely no regrets.
