Rooms stink like mold. Musty as if an old nasty carpet was never cleaned. Room was damp and humid so there's not good ventilation from bathroom. Once I got home and unpacked my clothes were damp and stunk. I have NEVER had this kind of a problem before or in any other hotel I've ever stayed at. It is screaming obvious the care the previous manager had is gone. I am now fighting off sinusitis from spending 4 nights here. I'm so disheartened. This has been my second home for years. I hope the new owners get a grip on the room conditions and quick. At present they are unhealthy for me.

We shopped around and read reviews while about an hour away from the area. We debated stopping a…read moretown away but reviews were iffy at some other establishments. I called to make sure I could get adjoining room (traveling with my husband and four kids) and the phone call reinforced my decision to stay here. I think her name was Rachel or Rebecca (about 10pm on the 7th if November). Despite it being late in the evening, the girl on the phone was pleasant, helpful, and friendly. Upon arrival, the blue lights on the outside of the building had my kids wowed. The lobby is unique with the grand staircase with the Rt66 mural in the background. It was clean, and inviting. The girl behind the desk was the same one on the phone and again, she was everything I would hope for in a friendly face to greet me as a guest at a hotel. I'm not even a rewards member with this chain but I felt like I'd been staying with them my whole life. She checked us in and gave us a quick briefing on WiFi and breakfast. Our rooms couldn't have been more perfect. Spacious!!! We had a king in one room and two queens in the other. I love the updated neutral decor. Probably my favorite thing was the anti-fog mirrors in the bathroom. Soooo cool!! Even better was the ambient lighting around the frame of the mirror so you're not blinded by the ceiling light in the middle of the night. The beds were very comfortable. My husband doesn't like to sleep in any bed but his own and even he liked these beds and pillows. We all slept great! I would definitely stay here again. I would actually go out of my way to stay here again. Customer service is my number one factor when rating businesses and this place would have four stars even without all of the other perks, based solely on the fantastic customer service I received during my stay.

At least it seemed that way until I found that McAlester had two 24 hour taxi cab services and a string of very busy motels along its main highway. I had already experienced a grueling few hours and was left without transportation until the morning, so a motel was a priority. I was after comfort; but not at a ridiculous price and Yelp helped me make a decision. After securing a reservation with a warm and gracious voice over the phone, my cab dropped me off at the Best Western Inn of McAlester and I checked in to an older motel with a large, beautiful and comfortable lobby. I was oriented to my surroundings by the lovely night clerk who also made me aware of the hot full breakfast they served in the large dining area next door. Exhausted, I was so very happy to find a well appointed recently remodeled room with two Queen beds, lots of quality pillows, lovely linens and a DIVINE mattress. A large console concealed the refrigerator and microwave and contained the drawers with the TV on top. There was still room for a desk and comfortable side chair with ottoman. All of the bathroom was new with a wide shower head and fluffy towels. A two bed Queen - one night - with AAA discount was $68.84 + taxes of $11.01 = $79.85 and just wonderful. They allowed me a late checkout while awaiting my ride out of town. Breakfast was very good - everything was REAL food including eggs, sausage and bacon. There were even tortillas for breakfast tacos. A bargain. Too bad it was the dead of winter. The Inn of McAlester has a beautifully maintained huge rectangular retro motel pool with surrounding concrete deck area! You rarely see a pool of that size anymore. It really is a terrific place to stay.

Upon arrival at around 8PM, we had to call so the inn keeper could let us in, then we got a tour, and were shown upstairs to our room: #4. The floors are creaky with charm, but there's a private bathroom in the room, window-unit AC, and a large and powerful space heater (we were toasty on a freezing night). So much personality and personal touches here. A modest, but complimentary, selection of snacks and drinks are available in various places, too! All in all, I'd definitely come back and stay a little longer!

The decor in the hallway set the tone (rather rundown but featuring displays about the area and history of the hotel), one of the rooms we passed was missing a door and had a bed sheet covering the door way, perhaps it was being rehabbed? Our room was clean, sheets were nice and the beds were comfy but the room didn't feel finished (bare concrete floor, exposed pipes and electric lines from the room above running along the ceiling). The bathroom was clean but tiny and a bit rundown. After seeing the room for the first time, I'm certain that had I been with my wife, she would have insisted we get back in the car and keep driving. The hotel restaurant is closed for business (not sure if that is temporary or permanent) but that was definitely the only attractive room in the building. The whole marketing emphasis of this place is that it's "historic" but it's only from the 1940's, my home is much older and I've never thought of it as historic. Frankly, it felt like the whole "historic" thing was just an excuse for being so shabby. All in all I'd say that whoever is in charge of cleaning is doing a wonderful job but the whole place is rundown and desperately in need of restoration. You will be hard pressed to find somewhere decent to eat in town. We received a couple of recommendations for "El Rancho Mexican Grill" and it was pretty awful.

The tub drained so that was perfect. I can't stand standing in a tub of water when showering. The toilet rocked side to side and you can't use the toilet right after one another as to the plastic tank for the toilet takes a minute to fill up and you have to lift back up on the handle, because the handle is connected to the water hoses in side the tank. Very nice for an older hotel. Parking is minimal when all the rooms are rented out. The breakfast was ok very minimal.
