I have never stolen anything in my life. My wife and I have been so blessed in our lives that we don't need to steal nor would ever entertain the thought. I am happy to report that Pavilion has assembled a beautiful and extremely well-edited collection of antique and contemporary finds. Having recently become obsessed with rope lighting designed by Christian Haas, I have been on the lookout for non-traditional lighting options. So when I spotted some very interesting hanging lamps made with thick nautical-looking rope in Pavilion's window, I had to stop in. The store's dark and spare facade gives way to an interior that is gallery-white from floor to ceiling - an excellent backdrop for the various mirrors, coffee and side tables, lamps, mirrors, accessories, and sculptural elements on display. Of course, because Pavilion specializes in 20th century design and decorative arts, the pieces are quite pricey. The range of prices on items currently listed on 1stdibs.com starts at $500 to upwards of $15K. Needless to say, the light I saw in the window, which turns out to be designed by Christien Meindertsma, is far out of my price range. All hope was not lost though, as Pavilion also sells some quirky and modern pieces by local designers that are more affordable options for adding unique design elements to your décor. Bottom-line: This is a must visit shop - whether you are in the market for that exceptional piece that can't be found anywhere else in Chicago or are keen to find some unexpected design inspiration.

Seth is so helpful and works really really hard. When I initially called him, he had an auction going live that weekend and he still made time to work with me. The guy is incredible. We sold our piece at the price I was looking for- the commission is extremely fair based on the lack of effort needed from my end. Thank you Seth and team. I really appreciate you!

It wasn't yet open, so we stuck with the original plan and went to the Spice House first (AMAZING as always) and came here afterwards. I love vintage maps, but am no connoisseur or expert. I also have a low price point because I'm cheap, but this shop had so many options in so many price points, all of which honestly seemed incredibly reasonable given the dates of the prints. Based on the only other review, I am going to guess that my interactions were with Mary and she was super nice, and it honestly felt like she knew so much about every piece. I would have preferred a print of Chicago or even New Jersey, but already have prints representing both and I wanted something small and under $50 so I picked up a small (and pretty much matted) print of a notice commemorating the death of President Lincoln from 1865!!! Am I a nerd for thinking that is cool as shit? It was also only $24, not including tax, is in pristine condition and perfect. I'd go back to George Ritzlin Antique Maps & Prints anytime I'm in Chicago! They have great prints, maps and otherwise, for your home.

I spent a few hours going thru their maps of Asia. Its really interesting to see how the known parts of the world have changed in over a few centuries. Be sure and ask questions, because the owners, George and Mary are really cool and have actually contributed to a few historical books. They also have a great collection of maps of the Chicago area. A really funny map is this one on Sin and Saloons in the city. It was supposed to be a warning and an attack on these dens of sin, but it ended up being bought by men visiting the city to find the brothels and bars :-) Another good one is the totally politically incorrect map of the city by ethnic groups. If you have the time and inclination, be sure and check it out. PS The Spice house is a few doors west, so go ahead and drop by there also.

BUT I love the antiquity of the theater so somehow, for me, those things balanced one another out. I really tried to soak it up as an overall experience. I wish I'd brought more cash since that was the preferred method of payment. However I was very pleased that a few vendors were willing to accept a paypal payment later that day as well as credit cards via iphones. I scored a lovely antique fleur-de-lis pin for a Christmas gift for mom as well as an awesome 1960's turquoise velvet coat in pristine condition for myself! My partner brought home some antique cameras for her collection as well. I agree that sometimes it was hard to know who was in charge of the individual booths, so perhaps an identifying tag or badge would have been helpful. I felt the majority of the prices were appropriate, and was pleased overall by the friendliness and courtesy of folks in what could have been a tense situation with the cozy and hot atmosphere.

There must have been some strange expectations. This was not a bargain hunters paradise but more like having the best of the best all in one place. Some vendors are pricier than others. I got some business cards and intend to visit their full collections. I agree the lighting was terrible. I think even the Congress personnel were surprised what a power suck hundreds of hundred watt bulbs can be. Next time - FLORESCENTS I enjoyed watching the chaos with a cocktail from the perimeter. The rake of the floor was not that bad. I bet I can guess which booths had trouble keeping their stuff vertical. The makeshift rack your boyfriend made hoping you would clean out your closet wasn't sturdy enough for all of those dresses. However, I appreciate that entrepreneurial spirit. It was a big crowd. The house lights made it really warm and I didn't have a cocktail in my hand before the first purchase was made. We all had our challenges. The worst was the lady pushing her baby - slowly - through the crowd in this over sized pram. This event is better for strapping the baby to your body. Hands free. Even better leave it at home with yo' baby daddy. This bazaar is more of an event than a flea market. With bed bugs on the rise I am thankful for this curated gathering of dozens of purveyors of fine vintage goods with a few "garage" sale styled booths tossed in. I found a bargain pair of lamps - see photo!!! Can't wait for the next one. I do hope some of the vendors will use their Iphones to take PayPal payments on the floor - I would have spent that $95 on that bulbous lamp.
