Beautiful restaurant with stone arches and ceilings. We did the tasting menu. Which was excellent. The tuna tartare was so fresh. The rice and mussels were tasty, however the mussels were tiny. We shared 3 pasta dishes, I really liked the pasta and prawns. We all had the fish special which is cooked with olive oil, zucchini and potatoes and olives. Yumm We were so full that we took dessert home. The service is very good. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We are staying at the Grotta Palazzese, which is the highest end hotel of the region with two reputedly fabulous restaurants. However, other than our breakfasts at the hotel, which we paid to have included with our rooms, we are not likely having dinners here. While their menus will astound many, as well as the views of the caves, which is why many come to dine and visit, we have been seeking less extravagant dinners while here, given our suite is over $1,500 a night at the present Euro conversion. So we consulted YELP for the best rated restaurants in town and that led us here. It was all 4 and 5 ratings, save for a single rating of 1, which was based on a disgruntled patron who never even ate here. They just were declined at the door - due to no reservations, which are recommended - in a manner they deemed obnoxious. It's easy to see why so many though rated this a 5. However, we felt it fell just short in some respects that brought it down to a 4. That said, we are sure many will enjoy a 5 experience. We had a few glasses of local primovito by the glass, which like most places we've dined in Puglia was absurdly reasonable by our local NYC metro area standards. These were poured after complimentary glasses of Prosecco and a lovely small potato soup. We ordered the house special antipasto, which were 5 different small seafood dishes (baked scallops, fried cod, mussels with rice, potatoes, and tomatoes, octopus salad, and yellowfin tuna tartare). This is a must have introduction to any meal. My wife then had one of the catches of the day offerings and I the half lobster with tagliatelle. It's an all seafood restaurant, so if you are looking for something other than that, you'll need to look elsewhere. However, if seafood is your thing, of which there is quite a lot in this town, this restaurant deserves your patronage. read more

My husband and I stumbled across this gem while we were searching for a restaurant in Polignano A Mare. They were very busy and even though we did not have reservations, they found a spot for us. The service was impeccable! They were so friendly and helpful. We tried the "tasting menu" and it was amazing! Every dish we got was phenomenal. The atmosphere was beautiful and very medieval feel. I would highly recommend going here, but try to make reservations in advance. read more

This place is 5 stars all the way! I walked in one night during my stay in Polignano a Mare and they were completely booked. My final night was Wednesday and fortunately they had a table for me. When I arrived, they called me by my name and my server called me by name as well. Very professional staff. I had at least 3 people taking care of me that night. There is no outside seating but honestly I was glad to sit inside for a change. I came in the summer and it was hot. I was happy to have A/C and have a comfortable setting. The inside was fantastic. Very well designed and the tables were well spaced. As for the food, it was fabulous. They gave me a little sparkling wine to start with a small soup, which they didn't charge me for. I had an appetizer, my main course, a glass of local wine, bottle of water and a sorbet for dessert for 44 euros. Not bad at all. It's about normal with most of the other restaurants in the area. This was the best meal I had while staying a week in Polignano a Mare and maybe the best in Puglia! Be sure to make a reservation though. You'll be glad you did. read more

We made a reservation based on the recommendation of the owner of our hotel. Wow! Ambiance simple and elegant chic. Service amazing. Fabio was splendid in recommending what to order. They brought to our table the fresh fish we were ordering as well as the lobster. 10 minutes later the fish came back as a heavenly carpaccio. The Lobster came back with a light fresh tomato sauce with home made linguini. The way it should be. By then the restaurant was packed but i barely noticed as i was somewhere close to Heaven enjoying my best meal in Puglia. Best restaurant in Polignano a Mare, the birthplace of Domenico Modugno. This was a fabulous find through YELP. I was on a girls trip to Puglia and we had made reservations at a restaurant nearby. The restaurant needed a credit card to hold our reservation and since we didn't provide one via email our reservation was never made. So, since we were there in the area now and wondering what to do for dinner we took it upon ourselves to search Yelp for nearby restaurants. I'm so glad we did! This place had an amazing atmosphere and quite the staff! We were pleasantly suprised with their ability to seat us and we all chose to try a different meal. Everyone ooohed and ahhhed over their choices and we finished off the night with some kind of flaming dessert. :) I'm taking my husband and daughter back there this week and I can hardly wait for them to experience it. Excellent dinner. We had mussels, tortellini with asparagus, and prawns. Also, salad, much wine, aperitif, and lemon sorbet. For desert, the nuns tits (think I'm kidding?) are outstanding. This is the best meal we've had in Italy. Atmosphere and service is fabulous. read more

If I lived here, this would be my go-to restaurant. Food, wine, and service were amazing. Per headwaiter's suggestion, we ordered a large fish to be shared among four of us. It was beautifully deboned and served table side. Orrechiette with local broccoli rabe was perfectly cooked. We ended the meal with local desserts with playful names, "dirty mouth" (mouth gets covered in sugar) and "nun's teats" (tette della monaca), and an almond and a cherry digestivos. read more

This place was suggested to us by an american with local family ties, and we were well pleased. The ambiance, food and service was great. This is a nicer restaurant, yet it has a menu to fit all taste. Be sure to ask for the English speaking waiter if you don't speak fluent Italian.
