Lisa cut my hair and I felt she did a poor job. It was uneven. Some hairs were sticking up. I was not happy with the haircut.

Great haircuts, reasonably priced at 20 bucks per cut. They do old fashion shaves as well. I find the sweet spot is around 1:30-2:30 on a weekday. Always get a good haircut and barbers are friendly always have a few laughs. I got a haircut a week ago at Anthony's. This review is posted about a week late because I had made attempts to contact the owner/manager to rectify the services provided but was repeatedly ignored. Got my haircut from Ronnie. Nice guy, but he seemed more interested in chit chat with other patrons than actually cutting my hair. When I got home to clean-up and took a closer look, the fade had different thickness all around. The taper was also uneven - like the teeth pattern on a set of hairy keys. I called up the shop to request my money back since I had to get this fixed elsewhere. The manager/owner, Sheila, was not in so I left a voicemail. There was no call back after 3 days. I then called back a few times over the course of another few days and the manager was never available. I feel at times the woman who picked up the phone, the only woman working there (Sheila), PRETENDED to not be the manager who was never around. Management is absolutely childish and unprofessional just like my haircut. This review carries a lot of my petty attitude because that is all I received from this establishment. Oh, and a horrible haircut. Did I mention that? Maybe I'm too harsh. Anthony's Barber Shop is a great place to get a haircut if you simply do not care about your looks or if you lost a bet. My experience at Anthony's was exceptional. Mia was my stylist today. She is a consummate professional. Her demeanor is calm and laid back. I enjoyed a quick buzz and a shaved neck with straight edge & hot shaving creme. It was Devine. The barber shop itself is total old-school. Exactly what I was looking for. As it was a Saturday afternoon, the shop was bustling with various customers, old to very young. Anthony's is definitely kid friendly. The shop has 4 barber chairs. There is free parking across the street in the municipal lot and you're walking distance to many other local shops. My experience here was a trainwreck. The haircut quality is bad. The staff (from what I can tell) is not consistent. I came about 1.5 hrs before closing, so I didn't think I would be causing a huge issue coming in, but I did apologize anyway for coming late. I should have walked out as soon as these guys offered to help the 2 people waiting in front of me, but they both declined to wait on the third guy working there. I should have waited or walked out. This was a bad sign, and I didn't react properly. Whoever I dealt with (didn't get his name, older guy) immediately joked that I better not leave a bad Yelp review. He was extremely friendly and kind at first. Honestly, I have no problem with his personality or his conversational attitude. I really liked him. But I have a serious problem with what he did and how he did it. I told him what I usually do with my haircut, he said he understood. My haircut isn't that complex. HOWEVER, the end product and the whole experience got worse as time went on. I walked out of there SURE I was going to write my first Yelp review (even though I said I wouldn't) of a barbershop simply because this is THE WORST haircut experience I've ever had. Whoever was cutting my hair was whipping clippers and a comb around really fast, and I assumed he was just skilled or whatever, but after seeing how it came out (as others have noted, jagged, uneven, weirdly shaped, not blended/faded correctly) this guy just didn't give that much of a shit. I was stuck in the chair though, and I figured I would just wait and see. As I said, he was very easy to talk to and seemed to know what he was doing. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He kept dropping his comb he was paying so little attention. NOTE that my glasses make me almost totally unable to see any detail and I can usually just tell how it's going by how the hair feels/weighs on my head, and to see if it comes out the right length on top I just have to look afterward and adjust it. But he was not very nice about that. During the haircut some cop comes in and that really fucks it. There was no focus on what he was doing, no attention to detail. He just talks and talks to this on duty police officer while occasionally cutting and buzzing at my hair. I looked over briefly to notice the other barbers taking their time and shaving the neck, ears, touching up, etc. properly of other customers, he just takes the shaver to it and is done. He rips the cover off me, makes fun of my inability to see what is happening again, and I get to see my obviously messed up haircut. So I tell him to get it a little shorter on top, and to take the long bangs in front out. He almost argues with me about it even though the hair in front is comically long compared to the rest of my hair, but half-asses them shorter. He doesn't even put the cover back on to catch the hair, he just does it. Then it's still too long, and he decides to just take the clippers to my entire hair, then calls it done. I was pretty done too because he was obviously being overtly rude at this point although I had been nothing but polite, on top of the constant chatter, inattention, and overall total lack of any ANY professionalism (I have no idea who is writing these reviews saying "professional"; even if they did an amazing job here it would never occur to me that anyone was professional). So I paid him, tipped him for some unknown reason, and got the hell out. I seriously regret even paying, let alone tipping, but I was feeling a lot of pressure and anxiety because I've not really had quite as bad experience anywhere else. The second thing I did after getting home and further inspecting how screwed up this cut was was get online and write this review. That's how bad it was. It was a priority. I spent 2+ hours trimming at my hair myself. The five-star reviews are from people who know which barbers to avoid here, or from people who have been coming here for years and get good service. I was still looking around for a new place to go, but it's definitely NOT here. I am not one to complain, nor am I one to write Yelp reviews about things besides Mexican restaurants, but this was a disaster. To be clear, I don't care about gruff customer service or banter as long as product or service is good. But neither were good here, and the relationship between the two is clear, so I have to call this place out. EDIT: Wow, so stupid. I remember the cop commented how "that taper is sharp". It is uneven and looks so sloppy. He must have been making fun of me/the barber at how bad it looked while I was sitting there. We have been customers for over a decade. This is a classic barbershop in every way. Sammy has been cutting my hair and my kids hair for years however all of the barbers at Anthony's are great. My favorite thing about the place is that they always accommodate a special request. I like getting my beard knocked down, sometimes a hot shave with a straight razor. Even on Saturdays when the place is busy they never say no and somehow the line keeps moving. This is very hard to do in a popular barbershop. People always seem happy to be there. I've been coming here for around 20 years for a reason - they do a nice job. I typically have both regular haircut and beard trim to take care of, and they are always professional, efficient, and friendly. This was a horrific experience - first time there. Decided to stop here for convenience as I was in Needham for something else. It was busy (5-6 people ahead in line) with two barbers. I didn't mind waiting but grew increasingly impatient as there was ZERO sense of urgency. Not expecting them to rush, but a little less conversation, a little more action please. I waited 90 minutes. 90 MINUTES!! Why I didn't leave at any point during that period is not my best judgement. They chatted with regulars and complained about other customers and businesses. They had absolutely no patience with my young child even though he sat perfectly still and didn't make a peep. Should not advertise kids' cuts. The 1 star? A good haircut! Stopped by today after passing by a lot on my way to the bank. Was able to get in a chair right away. Amy was amazing. We had a quick chat about what we wanted to do with my hair and she got to work. She was and absolute master with the clippers as she got me ready for the wedding I had to go to. I was extremely happy with the result and got several compliments at the wedding. HORRIFIC customer service. Had been going to this place regularly for the past 4 months. Got out of work and hauled it from MGH to arrive at the front door at 4:48. Guy looked at me and told me that I was out of luck. I pointed at my cell phone and explained I had just raced over from work and he laughed. Normally excellent service. Stay away from the new guy with a goatee. Didn't ask me and gave me a "prison" haircut that's too short. Never used scissor onece, just the machine. Whole thing took 2 minutes, usually takes at least 15. His response when I tried to stop him was "too late". If he just asked me or didn't start from the middle of my head that wouldn't be too late. This is most definitely one of the worst barbershops I have went to. One of my favorite barbershops was packed, so I decided to go here. I think that barber-to-client conversation is a nice aspect of the service, but the barbers were making me uncomfortable and came of as quite nosy. Also, they seem to have little to no respect for their clients. When my barber asked if I wanted my hair cut shorter than the original, I said no, to which she prompted again. Once more, I said no, and she told me she would just cut it anyway. In what world is that a professional way to treat your clients? I would not recommend this barbershop to anyone. I went about a month ago to this barber shop and a barber named Janice cut my hair an completely screwed it up. I usually cut my hair every three weeks and I had to wait a month for it to grow just to get it fixed. I went to modern barbershop on chapo St and the barber Anna couldn't believe the horrible job that was done she fixed it none the less and took about half the time Janice would have. I have given Anthony's multiple chances but every time I go to the girls that work there they always mess up my haircut and I get the same cut every time. They are very unprofessional and rude to customers and try to steer you away from certain cuts because of lack of experience. Long story short don't go to either of the girls. read more
