My brother in law was recently informed that he needed to see a dentist. Whatever. If you read my reviews you know that I abhor dentistry. He was sent to this dentist per protocol as per house health regulations. All fine and good. My B-I-L had been on medicaid for two years. He was switched to MEDICARE effective January 1, 2016. He is well aware of this and keeps notes. OCD is part of his diagnosis. He visited the dentist twice. $300.00 worth of nothing. And the bill was submitted to MEDICAID. In March. Dentist cannot explain why they submitted payment request through Medicaid. I have not been paying for Medicaid since December of 2015. Now Medicaid wants $1300.00 for this/these procedures that have not really/maybe been done. Wow. Chose wisely. Not this place.

Dr. Alan Siu then came in and said that I needed a deep cleaning along with some dental fillings which he recommended that I have treated. I told him that I was almost 70 years old with both cancer and diabetes and that I only wished to have conservative dental treatment unless I was in discomfort. He then insisted that I have the treatment and stated perhaps I did not understand. I told him I was an educated man who understood perfectly well but denied such treatment. He then tried to cajole me saying then they might not be the right dentist for me. I agreed and left, never to return. In my view, Dr. Siu was arrogant and pompous and I would not recommend him.

Upon examination, Nick told me I had at least 4 cavities to be filled, needed multiple deep cleanings, and decay removed from other teeth. None of which was true. I would have gone through with all of this had it not been for the "pay everything up front and you get a refund through your insurance policy", I am a law student working very few hours and I couldn't afford to pay the full amount at the time, so believing I needed an abundance of work done I decided to go somewhere recommended that will charge my insurance like normal. I went to Lakeshore Dental Care to get these "multiple cavities" filled only for them to tell me I have one singular small cavity (so small numbing wasn't even needed), no decay, and all I needed was a normal cleaning. I had trusted Nick and did not believe I had only one cavity, insisting I had multiple, asking "but what about this", until they went tooth by tooth with me showing me on each one there were 0 signs of cavities, along with how tiny the only one I had was. They also told me what every other dentist besides Nick in my life had, that I have impeccable teeth and am just not prone to cavities, which is why it took 28 years to have my first one. I got my single tiny cavity filled at less than 1/2 of the cost he quoted per filling, using the same insurance, and not having to pay upfront and wait for a check from the insurance company. I have worked with Nick in a professional capacity for years at my job and trusted him fully only for him to attempt to have me go through multiple procedures he knows I don't need, this is after sharing anxiety about dental procedures and him assuring me he would take great care of me - I can not imagine he doesn't do the same for those he doesn't know personally. Further, when I asked for my X-rays to be transferred to the new office, they did not send the ones I got in office that he diagnosed all these issues with, but ones I had back in 2019 elsewhere; likely due to the fact any dentist would be able to look at the same X-rays he used to tell me I need so many procedures and know that I had perfectly healthy teeth. It is the definition of a scam. I am absolutely disgusted and livid. On top of all of this, he literally yelled at me when I asked him a question regarding the procedures. I asked why he insisted on something and instead of simply explaining, his response was to scream "Hey! Listen to me, I know what i'm doing!" at me in the waiting room. As if I don't have the right to ask a question about MY teeth and the procedures I will be paying for.. absolute lunacy. Looking back, this should have been the biggest sign to stay away.

He makes sure to give realistic treatment plans. When is comes to dental procedures, he is great with anesthetic to make sure the patient is 100% comfortable during the entire duration. The hygienists are great at their job. They make sure to take care of your entire mouth without causing pain or unnecessary bleeding. From kids to seniors, my entire family sees Dr. Rodo and his team.
