Pa pa pa papadums!
Alice C.

We were wandering around on Christmas Day in little town Salisbury, and unsurprisingly, everything was closed. Well, actually a bit surprising, because I thought maybe there would be a Burger King or a Chinese place that remained open -- but nope, ghost town, except for a couple lunch spots that were obviously fully booked. That is until we stumbled upon this place (and a Thai place next to it) that remained open. A good Indian place, open on Christmas day with almost no patrons? We lucked out and immediately went inside. They had a special Christmas lunch 3-course menu, mostly of Indian fusion items. We started with some complimentary papadums which came with 5 condiments. The strawberry and raspberry pickled onions were especially tasty and addictive, but the usual chutneys were delicious as well. I had some curried black tiger prawns as an appetizer, and an aubergine and chickpea curry for my main dish. Both were delicious, and was presented in a nice way. Between the dishes they also gave us a rather big serving of strawberry sorbet as a palate cleanser, which was pleasant. I ended the meal with some spring roll looking mango dessert, but that was more disappointing than the sorbet. However, it was not bad -- they merely set high expectations. Service was good in the beginning but sparse at the end, and we struggled to get our bill. But rating on the food alone, it was definitely worth a trip, and like I said, we lucked out.

Old Delhi style curry with chicken.

I was going to go past it and onto eatery that sounded less pretentious from early reviews, but it was pouring rain on a Sunday night, and the ambience through the window looked warm and welcoming, so I went in.... and I am so glad! Now admittedly being by myself I only had one main dish with no starter, the old Delhi style curry with chicken, but it was outstanding. Curry, cream and honey. Yum! My dessert, cinnamon poached pear with currant ice cream was perhaps more British than Indian, but the subtle flavors definitely hint at a finer palate than I associate with typically English food. Anyway, it too was scrumptious. Along with the food, the service was excellent, the decor warm and understated, the music not too loud. In all, I highly recommend. Great spot for a date night or recovery from long, long day of walking around Stonehenge as it was for me.

Anokaa means 'something out of the ordinary' and this Indian restaurant with-a-twist truly is. The decor is modern and feels intimate and the clever use of lighting, especially on the screen wall and bubble tanks, is really special. The menu is varied and they will happily accommodate requests. Executive chef, Puban Kumar Bhaniyar, has designed an intriguing blend of flavours that make menu decisions very difficult. The medley of canapés starter was delicious and I followed that with Tiger prawns with a Kerala-influenced sauce. The dessert menu was far and away the best I have seen in an Indian restaurant and both our desserts were beautifully presented and tasted just as good as they looked. 3 courses for 2 with beer (& poppadoms and 4 scrummy pickles) came to £75. Service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Strips of roasted Welsh lamb.

This was by far the best meal we had during our month-long trip to the United Kingdom. In fact, this would have been a top meal even if we had been eating back home in San Francisco (aka Foodieville, USA). Absolutely fantastic. The restaurant itself is very pretty, with modern Indian decor and the servers dressed up in colorful uniforms. All of the servers were very nice and attentive, but not hovering. And now, the star of the show, the food. We started with strips of Welsh lamb for an appetizer, and they set the bar very high for deliciousness. The meat was perfectly tender, and the drizzles of sauces all over the plate tasted wonderful. I don't mind saying that I used my fork to scrape up every last bit of sauce after the meat was gone. My husband's main dish was the twice cooked Goan pork curry vindaloo style - very, very tasty. Everything was perfectly cooked and flavored. My main dish was the duck jaalsha - absolute heaven. The meat was done just right, which can be hard with duck. I especially loved the whole dried apricots that were in the sauce, it was a perfect compliment to the duck. We also ordered two naans, the garlic and coriander naan and the date and ginger naan. Absolutely delicious, by far the best naan I've had in my life. We stuffed ourselves silly on the naan, and kept tearing off little bits after we were full for "just one last bite". Overall, this meal was one of the highlights of our trip and one of my fondest memories. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Be prepared to be dazzled by this upscale Indian fine dining. The pakoras tasted delicious and the korma was rich in flavor.

The lunch buffet looked really small - it was more a side table, so we ordered off of the regular menu. I got the Kashmir with Chicken Tikka - described as medium with pineapple and banana. My wife got Garlic Lamb, and we got some nan as well. The sauces & chutneys for the papadom were not bad. My banana-pineapple-chicken was more mild than medium, sweetened by the bananas. I've never had bananas in Indian food and while it was good, I doubt i need to repeat the experience. My wife's Garlic Lamb was a little bit spicier, and came with more vegetables than she expected. By the end, she had picked out all her lamb and left some of veggies. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz_photos/Os1jdo18kXWEzbhDc-WD4A While the naan was good, I think the food was just average overall, though perhaps we didn't pick the right dishes for highlighting their best cuisine. The prices were reasonable, and the service was decent. The manager or owner was on the phone in the background most of the time, which was a little distracting since otherwise the restaurant was pretty empty (and quiet). Restroom was upstairs.

Where did this place go? Who knows, why is it still listed, no on can say…read more Look like they went out of business long ago, and this town does not Yelp as much to care that they are still listed. Sorry folks - nothing to see here. Carry on.
